Bookings were made by my company as I attended a number of training courses.
I can confirm that there are lots of weddings - marquees were continually being dis/mantled - why don't they just keep them up and save wedding couples a lot of money/
Summary of complaintes -
- I was electrocuted in 1 room by the TV. The Manager - a German - was not interested. Despite bruising on the arm and stomach - where the circuit was completed, the hotel claimed it must have been static!!
- it is possible to see into one of the rooms in the stable block as it has been 'designed' in such a way that the windowes do not fully cover the glass.
- a colleague barely ate for a week as they could not / would not provide a vegetarian menu, despite being asked in advance
- one room had electric cables in the bathroom and an electric socket; I 'inherited' a half-eaten packet of biscuits which was not cleared away all week. I have pictures.
- beware of falling masonry; little external maintenance appears to be carried out judging by the piles lying around
etc, etc

Rooms:
I have stayed in standard rooms in the main building and both executive rooms and suites in the converted stables. All rooms are of a very good size in both the main building and stables and decorated to a good standard. The bathrooms appear to be clean and also of a good standard. The temprature in the rooms was good for this time of year, however the bedroom area in the split level suite was warm, while the downstairs area much cooler and draft while sat at the table working from the adjacent door.

Stayed in a downstairs stables room, but the wireless broadband singnal doesn' work on teh ground floor. I was moved to a room where the wireless signal worked fine.

Restaurant/Bar/Room Service:
The service in the restaurant and bar on the one occasion I ate there was poor. They take your order int eh bar area and then move you through to the dining area. The starter arrived promptly, however the main course took considerably longer to arrive than expected. In addition, placing drinks orders also took a long time with the staff not being attentive in teh slightest. I ordered some dessert wine to come at the same time as the dessert, however this was forgotten and when I inquired they took ten minutes to search the cellar only to inform me that there was none left. The service should have been more efficient.

Room service is pretty much hit and miss on the time to get the food out, can take as long as 50 minutes on occassions.

The standard of food in both the restaurant and room service is better than average, I've eaten much worse in three star hotels.

General:
An average hotel with spacious rooms of a good standard, need some work ont eh restaurant/bar service. Would recommend this hotel for business travellers and holiday makers alike.

We were guests at a friend's Wedding lunch on a Sunday after the Wedding on the previous day. The entire lunch had been pre-booked and pre-ordered for all 48 people. We arrived in plenty of time (12.00 for 12.30) and were directed to the bar where we met up with other guests for a pre-lunch drink.
At about 1.15pm we were asked to make our way to the Dining room for lunch and here the sorry tale begins.
As soon as everyone was seated, the waiter spent a fruitless five minutes asking if anyone had ordered liver as a starter before delivering soup to those who had ordered it. The bottom of the bowls were hot, indicating that they had been sitting on a hot plate but not only was the strange tasting soup just luke warm, a skin had formed over the top-not wishing to spoil the day for our hosts we kept quiet but worse was yet to come.
We then sat for about an hour before the starter plates were cleared before the fiasco which was the main course started.
Our hosts had quite clearly submitted to the hotel a list of guests requirements from the menu which included 27 portions of lamb-this somehow became 27 portions of salmon which they then tried to serve up. Our hosts tackled the hotel staff and having been told what had happened were asked to consider chicken as an alternative to the missing lamb. Having asked 27 guests to change to chicken, it then became clear there was not enough chicken either so this then changed to turkey. Meanwhile the guests who had requested and been served salmon had also been served luke warm and discoloured vegetables which had obviously been cooked hours earlier and kept warm. These were, after about 30 minutes, removed from the tables and the main course served about 4.15 --all this without a single apology from the Hotel's Duty Manager, who didn't have the grace to show her face.
The final insult came when the waiter delivered the coffee cups to the table with his fingers INSIDE the cups. When I remonstrated with him on the grounds of hygiene I got a 'looks could kill' look and he took them away again. His explanation for this was that he was in a hurry and carry more cups by putting his fingers inside.
Do the authorities ever carry out hygiene audits on staff?
It would insult Basil Fawlty to even attempt a comparison--avoid this place like the plague.

I stopped here midweek on a business trip. I usally prefer hotel chains - you know what your getting and there are no surprises after a long day at work and travelling. I was pleasently surprised and yes could see it would be a good wedding venue.

Stopped in room 26 which I couldn't fault was far enough away from other rooms so slept like a log.

The food was excellent both evening and breakfast meal.

There is no gym on site but you can get free passes to the Virgin Active Gym and spa chain which is a mile up the road (you'll need a car to get there). which to tell you the truth was far preferable to some of the chains offerings for gyms!!

My new wife and I had our wedding at the Brownsover Hall in December 2006.
We had searched high and low in and around the Warwickshire and West Midlands area for a suitable venue until we discovered this location.
As you drive up the driveway you are immdiateley struck by the impressive grounds and exterior of the hotel.
A big plus for us was the fact that they only do one wedding per day so we was there main priorty for the day.
The wedding co-ordination team of Sarah, Hiliary and Steve on the day, couldn't do enough for us.
The hotel was clean as were all the rooms. The room locations in the main building are interesting, I stayed in a single room the night before the wedding and I went up and down stair case's to reach it.
The food on the day was superb and the staff serving were really professional.
So many of guest's commented on how much they loved the hotel and the quality of the rooms.
It's not massive but its not too small, so there was a good balance of people in the main hall and those die-hards propping up the bar.
That slight niggle in the back of my mind "will or won't it be a good day" soon disappeared.

  • Disliked — The night barman.

We had our wedding reception here on Sat 14th October 2006 and it was perfect..... it exceeded all our expectations.
The grounds are beautiful and it is a wonderful setting for wedding photos. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the wedding breafast was of a high quality. We had no complaints from friends and family re standard of the accomodation and our bridal room in the stables was certainly lovely.

We had the perfect wedding day here and would definitely recommend Brownsover Hall Hotel to anyone else as a wedding venue.

What a pleasant surprise!!!!

Having read some fairly unsavoury reviews on this hotel, I can honestly say it was lovely!! We stayed for just one night on the 14th October. We had tickets to Silverstone touring car championship, and fancied a night away at the same time!! The hotel looks really impresive when you drive down to reach the entrance. Ok, so you cant park in front of the hotel, you use the car park to the rear of the property, but who wants someone elses shabby ford mondeo in their wedding pictures, be reasonable. Its a 30 seconds walk round to the
front of the hotel, and if you are disbled , an entrance from the car park through the back of the hotel to reception with no steps.

The reception area is tiny and can be crowded if there is a wedding party having drinks by the open fire. The staff were friendly and courteous at all times. We had an issue with our loo seat upon arrival into our room, ie we didnt have one. I called reception and we were immediately moved to a new room, a free upgrade to the stable block. WOW, for a three star hotel these rooms are very nice and
spacious! We didnt eat in the hotel for our evening meal, there is a good choice in Rugby and plenty of fast food places for the kids too!!

Breakfast was superb, a good choice of hot and cold foods, and the dining room was typically old and gothic with red walls and dark wood.

The grounds are large, well kept and clean.

Overall a lovely night away. Our standard room on check in was totally fine for the grade of hotel, although I must say that the stable rooms are really nice.

Remember this is a three star hotel and not the Ritz or the Savoy, but it is a character three star hotel. As for the previous comments about weddings taking priority, well SO WHAT!! I know that I wanted to be a priority on my wedding day, so why be so miserable about it. The weddings probably account for the biggest portion of the hotels business, and they will not be a cheap thing to arrange. If you are concerned about a wedding check with the hotel in advance before making your booking.
