I like this hotel, it is very spooky in places and the TV's don't like me! The food is a bit fancy but very good, the drinks can be expensive, the grounds are exceptional and there are some lovely walks around the property.

All this was ruined by someone on reception called Shirelle! She was rude, unhelpful to the other lady requiring her help, and ignored the fact she had an entrance hall full of guests waiting to check out as she preferred to do her walk round rather than help out. The lady who was checking me out was more than helpful but when she called upon this shirelle to help - there was no hello, sorry to keep you waiting or anything. I felt that she was rude enough for me to put a comment on here like this.

Room Tip: even the smaller rooms are very nice

Thank for your comments and I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at Brownsover Hall. I am very sorry Cherelle came over as rather abrupt. She was only trying to help out and concerned you thought she was rude as that was far from her intention. She was only trying to be business like to assist a colleague.

I regularly pass through this area on business and have stayed in several hotels in the Leicester area, none of which have been great, so thought I'd look slightly further south and saw Brownsover Hall on TA, and what a find it was, especially at the price!! From the moment you pull into the grounds it feels peaceful and relaxing, which after a long drive down the M1 is exactly what is needed.
Of course being an old manor house the layout is quite quirky but though being a hotel it still retains the feel of a country house. The check-in at reception was friendly and efficient though one slight downside is that there is no lift, so if you have heavy luggage the stairs could be an issue, but I'm sure the staff would help. My room was a reasonable size with flat screen TV and a good size bathroom with a full length bath. To my surprise, I even received a call fron reception
within 10 minutes of arriving to check if everything was OK. A rare occurence at hotels these days. The double bed was large and very comfortable and the room actually had windows you can open. The wi-fi is free and was very quick and easy to access.
I went to the bar before dinner and it's quite small but pleasant enough. I just had a pint which was £3.75 I think, so yes slightly on the dear side, but not extortionate. My only gripe here would be is that they only offered either Stella or Boddingtons on draught which seems pretty standard throughtout the UK. I wish hotels would serve ales from local brewers, but anyway a minor point.
The dining room is lovely with views over the grounds and again provides a peaceful and relaxing ambiance. The service was attentive and the menu pretty good, especially the wine list which had a good selection with most wines available by the glass or half carafe, and reasonably priced.
Breakfast was served in the same room and thankfully was table service and not the usual buffet style. There was a good selection on the breakfast menu and service was prompt and the food hot.
So based on a one night stay, I think Brownsover is an excellent hotel where you actually feel that you are getting service rather than just a reservation number being processed through one of the large chain hotels. It will definately be my hotel of choice when I'm in this area again.

I booked a night for my partners 24th Birthday under a packaged deal they do room, 3 course meal, presecco, chocolates and breakfast included. Everything was top standard. The ladies at reception at check in and out were so helpful and friendly and the look and feel of the hotel was breathtaking. Staff at the restaurant in the evening did seem a little unfocused and untrained but very friendly. We will most certainly be going back!

We had our wedding at Brownsover yesterday and it's a testimony to the team there that I am writing this review the following day, ahead of opening cards and gifts. Why? Because I cannot recommend Brownsover enough to anyone who is considering the venue for a wedding.

Dozens of our guests commented on how delighted they were with their rooms, the food, the service and how happy to help the staff were. Everything ran to perfection and this is largely down to our master of ceremonies, Sandro who is not only one of the nicest guys you will ever meet but also incredible at his job. Nothing was too much effort for him and he has his staff in excellent order. Brownsover are very lucky to have Sandro on their team, the number of people who commented on his contribution to the day was unbelievable.

One note of recommendation to the hotel would be to prioritise the bride and grooms parents with their room allocations as both ended up in small rooms at far flung ends of the hotel. 'less important' guests had huge rooms in much more convenient locations. This however didn't detract too much from the weekend, so it's 5 stars for Brownsover.

Stayed here on business for 1 night. Price was very similar to a Travel lodge but was ten times better. The evening meal was excellent, I had Sardines for starter and the Salmon for main, both were Very tasty. The service was a little erratic but the food more than made up for it. The morning breakfast had everything and you could pick and chose from continental to full english or a bit of both. They also made special orders.

The room I had (no. 32) was large and had a big Flat screen TV with good free wi-fi. My only issue was the shower wasn't very powerfull and I had to have a bath. The shower holder also slipped down the rail.

Overall a very good hotel. Some maintenance required in the room

This mid nineteenth century Gothic pile is just hundreds of yards from a Premier Inn but far superior. I was apprehensive having paid an advance rate then reading reviews but I was not disappointed. My room was compact but clean and modern in the main building. The building itself is interesting with some grand public rooms and an interesting history and I suspect the higher priced bedrooms bigger and better agin. I had a meal in the bar one night which was good quality but most combinations of two courses on the restaurant/bar menu pushed my works budget too far, can't fault the meal though. Breakfast is a little chaotic. On both mornings I was ushered to a table by well meaniing staff but then asked to order breakfast before I actually sat down and saw the menu! Just a slight training issue. The food was quite good but could have been hotter and faster served. One caveat - the locks - on certainly my bedroom door was poor quality, however nobody should leave unsupervised valuables in hotel rooms. Overall: Great for the £62 room only I paid, I would certainly be back midweek, I would say it's a bit small to stay if there is a wedding on.

Thank you for your comments and delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay. The staff are sometimes a little over eager to avoid waiting time at breakfast and your comments are a reminder to slow down. The doors in question are due to be changed with electornic locks to make the guest stay more enjoyable. Thank you again for making us aware and rest assured these issues arel being dealt with.
