“shame about the breakfast”

stayed here over night so we could enjoy a drink and a meal after the cinema and not have to drive home.nice comfortable beds ,the road noise from the window in room 2 was bad and it was a s though the window was open,there was a bulb missing from one of the lights in the room.AS FOR THE BREAKFAST. It was one of the worst breakfasts i have had before.sausages that were tastless and more like quorn sausage in looks too, scrambled egg was crap and baked beans thats it as far as a cooked breakfast goes there.( 3 items? )the toasting machine said please use other toasters at the end of counter where there were 2 toasters like you get at home and the one we used did not pop up after it finished toasting so we stood there like a lemon until we realised then it was burnt, watched 2 other couples do the same after.its a friendly place and staff all work hard but breakfast let our stay down .OH ONE MORE THING, DONT LAUGH but the toilet roll in the toilets near the breakfast was the cheapest i have ever come across, rough and about 3 inches wide.the rooms are modern but little thing let the hotel down compared to its rivals. £67 for 1 night with, £20 vouchers for the pub next door and a free breakfast?? maybe we are a bit pickly but have to be honest

Thank you for your honest feedback.

I would like to advise travellers reading this to understand that some rooms at the rear of the hotel may experience some noise from the A444 which is located behind the hotel. It is not overly close in proximity to the Hotel as there is a farm and bridge that separates us.
We will always allocate front facing rooms first with this in mind and guests may request this on booking.

We will supply anything needed for our rooms and if bought to our attention we will fix straight away. Please always contact reception if you find you are missing anything required, we can supply extra towels and tea and coffee etc and replace any bulbs that may stop working.

I am very sorry that the hot breakfast was not to your taste. We are limited to 3 items only as our brand advertises. This is consistent throughout the Holiday Inn Express brand globally as breakfast is provided free of charge and differentiates us from Holiday Inn which is full service and has full choice at a charge.

Please accept my apologies that our team did not mention the toasters are not set to dispense the toast once finished. This was only a temporary solution until our usual rotating toaster was repaired, which i can confirm it has now been done.

Stayed on a Friday night on a works do. Heading out n about local.
We met for drinks at the bar upon arrival late afternoon, bar area was freezing, think the air con/heating system not set right!
2 hours later we met again for quick drink, area still cold! By the time we returned later though it was nice and warm there.
Room very good, nicely appointed and hot shower (which is more than can be said for the breakfast)......Complimentary breakfast served and altho the sausages nice and hot the baked beans and scrambled eggs luke warm. However, I have stayed here before and this is 1st time been like this so hopefully a one off! The 3 other work colleagues that had rooms here also dissapointed with the breakfast on this occasion.
Am due to stay over again on a Friday in February so I can have a night out. Will either be here or the Premier Inn nearby.

Thank you for your feedback. First of all i hope you had a great Christmas!
We did experience a fault with our air conditioning units on the date of your stay, however we contacted the engineers whom were able to come out to us a few hours after reporting the fault, and as you stated later in your evening the lounge was warm. We do apologise when anything like this happens but will always act upon it immediately to ensure our guests dont experience any discomfort for too long.

Your previous two reviews of our hotels were fantastic, and on this occasion i am disappointed to learn that your breakfast was not up to standard.
your feedback has been provided across the team and i hope that we see you on your return in February and that you can report an improvement.

we stayed recently overnight here and I can recommend this hotel. We were very happy with the standard, quick and efficent check in, pleasant staff. The rooms were large enough, very clean, it wasn't noisy although there were a lot of people staying. Breakfast was good, yes there wasn't any bacon, but the range of other items made it quite adequate. Over all well worth it and good value. Thank you for a pleasant stay

Someone is beautifull.the hotel is made by her smile and personality it makes my stays fly by. Im glad i can share the week with her.i know she will think this is a joke but its not she dpesnt seem to know when im joking. Oh yeah this is supposed to be about the hotel its nice.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay in a double room and left very satisfied. We chose here because of its proximity to the Ricoh Arena and great value (2 nights for the price of 1). Upon arrival check-in was efficient and welcoming, we were also acknowledged as priority club members as was our platinum status. The room was the usual good holiday inn express standard ie modern & functional, however the shower was larger than average and the bathroom door did not double up as a toilet door, the toilet being actually in the bathroom rather than a separate compartment so the bathroom appeared more roomy - those of you who use these hotels frequently will know what I mean! The room itself was also a good size and the bed was comfortable, also plenty of space for our belongings for a short stay. Although the window did not appear totally sealed this suited us as it allowed for ventilation rather than being stuffy and no noise was experienced during the night that disturbed us. Car parking was free and plentiful being adjacent to a Fayre & Square pub with a Beefeater pub, Frankie & Benny's and McDonalds very close by. There is a restaurant actually next to the hotel entrance but this is closed at present due to re-open again shortly as indicated on a sign. Breakfast was complimentary as usual and had a nice choice of hot (beans, sausage & scrambled eggs) as well as toast, croissants, cheese, fruit, yoghurt cereals etc. all as a help-yourself buffet including hot & cold drinks. The dining area was spotless as was the rest of the hotel - staff were constantly cleaning up after customers in the dining area and replenishing food, cutlery, crockery, glasses, cups, etc. They were so helpful and friendly leaving us very satisfied after our stay - this hotel is a credit to the ICH brand of hotels!

I have been staying at this hotel since it opened, and have seen a slow deterioration in general.
I do not fault the staff overall, management need to take an overview of the hotel and forget the 'this is how it is now and has been', and look at how it should be.
Breakfast without bacon is not breakfast to me. The food quality isn't great, but acceptable if bacon was a part of it!
Internet rates are extortionate at this hotel. Internet is no longer to be seen as a money maker, it should be the same as the TV in every room.... FREE!
The heating in the room is controlled by a sensor which puts the heating on when you walk into the room. The pro for the hotel is they save money on heating, the con for the customer is it is freezing cold when you return to your room after a long day.
In the last 3 years of staying at this hotel, I have been woken by the fire alarm going off. I am all for safety, but I've reached my limit.
Unless these things are fixed, i will choose an alternative. Sorry, but you guys need to think a bit more instead of just open the doors every day.

I would like to thank you as a returning customer for 3 years for your loyalty and for your feedback.
All feedback ensures we are up to date with our guests feelings towards the hotel and helps us to make better decisions.
We have been open since 2005 and experienced a few team change overs and in 2010 a change over of brand from Days Inn to Holiday Inn Express and with that came a better product and a better service. There was a lot put into the development and the refurbishment of the 100 bedrooms, and we are aware that we now need to focus on public areas. As of quarter 2 of 2013 there will be changed in our breakfast area and bar area.
As per brand standard across all Holiday Inn Expresses worldwide we are not authorised to provide bacon as a breakfast item. There are penalties incurred with offering items which do not fall under brand standards and we can only apologise that this is one item we are not at liberty to offer.Breakfast is Free at all Express Hotels and because of this we are limited in what options we can offer. We do ensure all of our websites state "Selected hot items available".

With regards to the cost of wifi, the fees are £4 for 2 hours, £6.00 for 4 hours and £10.00 for 24 hours. These prices are inline with provincial hotels however as it is becoming increasingly more popular and complimentary at other hotels we are looking to ensure that we remain competitive and offer the best value to our guests. Currently we have a Guest connect offer available with 24 hours free wifi, and 24 hours free wifi to new members signing up to our loyalty club Priority Club Rewards.

Please never feel that anything would be too much to ask of our team at Nuneaton; as you are aware that the heaters work on a sensor if you would like to have the room prepared and are willing for a member of the team to activate your heating ready for your return after a night out please notify us in advance or on your return and we will endeavour to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.

On the aspect of the Fire alarm sounding i can empathise that this is not always convenient, however i can assure you that there is no fault with the fire panel or with the equipment and it will only sound when it is essential. We must comply with Health and Safety standards and therefore we monitor and record every time an alarm sounds, from our records this number is not above average and each alarm has been for legitimate causes. I hope you understand that this is an element of a guest stay that is not within our control.

Please feel free to speak to us directly at the hotel and we do hope that after 3 years you continue to use our services.

I usually try and book in a chain hotel if I haven't stayed in an area before, as you usually know what you are getting. The check in was OK, friendly and efficient. The hotel carpets looked a little tired past reception, but otherwise the hotel looked OK. The room was fine for £75, although the bedside table was so small getting my phone, keys and wallet on it was like playing Jenga.

The buffet breakfast was pretty terrible though. The meat content of the sausages seems quite low and the texture was oddly similar to the foamy/solid scrambled egg. The serving spoon for the beans was full of cold beans from where other people had used it. The coffee was frankly rancid, although when I went to get a croissant and yoghurt (as I couldn't face finishing the hot breakfast) the coffee was cleared away. There were around 5 people eating in the dining room, so it should have been apparent who was sat at each table.

In summary; room OK, go to the nearby McDonalds or Frankie and Benny's for a better breakfast.

Thank you for your review and for your feedback.

We can appreciate your comments with regards to the carpets on the ground floor. The Hotel has been open since 2005, and in 2010 we rebranded to join as a Holiday Inn Express. There was a lot put into changing the bedrooms and other items to fall under the new brand standards. We are currently updating our tiled bathrooms and in quarter 2 of 2013 we are expecting either new carpets or tiles for the ground floor and breakfast area so please be assured we are consistently checking the quality of our product and aiming to maintain or improve.

The hotel offers two types of sausages as we are aware guests have different preferences. I would like to apologise that the serving equipment for the beans was not attended to and this has been bought to the attention of the front of house team and breakfast assistants to monitor in future.

We can appreciate our guests need and therefore do look at different suppliers and as we are coming into 2013 there may be options available to us. HG are also looking at setting new brand standards across all of the Holiday Inn Expresses that would fall in line with the collective feedback they have had from guests staying at all Express hotels.
