“Fabulous for family/extended friends get together”
Reviewed August 2, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

We stayed at Ashleigh House in July 2012 to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. There were 18 adults and 6 kids.

We all thought the house was great, it's huge, the bedrooms are all good sizes and the place seems to go on forever, it's quite a maze at first! There is a big TV room with lots of "lazy boy" type reclining couches, an adjoining room with a huge billiard table, a long dining room (the central part of our weekend), and 2 smaller sitting rooms, I think both had TV's and one had a piano.

Every bedroom has a TV and most have their own bathroom.

The grounds are huge out the back, with plenty of room at the front too. The weather wasn't ideal the weekend we stayed with lots of rain preceding our visit and some rain on and off over the time we were there, which was such a shame as we would have spent a lot more time outside. But there is lots of room and plenty to do inside so it was OK. There is outdoor seating front and back and it's a beautiful garden/setting, one that cries out to spend time in! We were lucky though as we also did get periods of sunshine so we managed to get outside and the kids and Dads had a kick around of a ball and played frisbee ... everyone got very wet and muddy as the ground was waterlogged, but a great time was had by all. We even sat in the jacuzzi in the rain, which was also fun.

I don't really think this property should be marketed as luxury accommodation, because it isn't what I would call luxurious. But it IS is very comfortable, clean, spacious well equipped and a really wonderful place to stay with kids because we realised if we had opted for a very fancy, absolute luxury place we would have been worried about things getting broken or damaged because we had 6 kids ranging from 1-6 years old. But we found this place really easy to manage the kids in and not feel worried about anything happening the whole time.

Another thing I appreciated was there was plenty of fresh linen ... tablecloths and napkins. There was no way we would have run out! And I really liked having fresh linen napkins all weekend.

Before our trip (and after we had booked) I read a really bad review about this property by someone which had us worried. But I really disagree with what they said as we found it very comfortable and well equipped, and our friends agreed ... we couldn't really understand why that review was so bad.

I will say there are a few negatives. The kitchen is really small for a property of this size and badly designed in the sense the kitchen table is in the middle of the room (there is nowhere else it could go) so you do a lot of dancing around that and each other. The main dishwasher (there are 2) mucked up the whole time we were there, and both dishwashers don't seem to be maintained by the owners as they were both out of salt and rinse aid, which renters shouldn't have to provide. And the kitchen sink kept getting clogged up, which was pretty off and who wants to deal with that on a holiday! There is a plunger so it was pretty easily dealt with though.

The other thing is the study room which is in a place where it has no direct access to an outside window/air, which means it smells awful, very musty/mouldy and it isn't somewhere anyone would want to spend time, and definitely not sleep. so don't rely on that as an extra bed (which it is listed as).

For our anniversary celebration night we had a big dinner so we booked a caterer through Antonia, Rupert Davies of RD Catering. I cannot say enough positive things about them, we were a bit nervous of what the quality of food etc. might be like as I was booking this entire weekend from Singapore and had no way of finding out if RD Catering were any good, and this was an integral part of our weekend and this night meant a lot to us. But they were absolutely fantastic, the food was delicious and of a really high quality. Rupert and his staff were really friendly and easy going and very experienced, they served us and looked after us beautifully. Our group of 18 was tiny compared to some of the huge numbers Rupert has catered for, but we felt just as important as if it were a VIP affair, which is important as for us, this WAS a VIP affair.

The handover on arrival by Antonia was friendly and thorough. She said it would take 45 mins and we wondered how it possibly could take that long ... but it does! She knows the house thoroughly and tells you all the ins and outs and it's all really useful information. The handover at the end of the weekend was really easy and friendly too (and quick!).

And finally, I mistakenly left a teapot there which had been a gift from my mother in law, and it was found for me and posted to Singapore, no charge to me. You can't beat that for great service!

I would definitely recommend Ashleigh House for a group get together. We had a ball and thought it was fabulous.

“An absolutely beautiful house that was perfect for our hen weekend”
Reviewed June 25, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We stayed at Ashleigh House for a hen weekend and a fantastic time there. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and were impressed that we were trusted to look after such a grand house filled with lovely furniture, despite being a large hen party.
The house is beautiful and has real character. It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped, we were able to cook for our group of 26 without needing any extra equipment or dishes, and the long table in the dining room was the perfect size for sharing a lovely meal. The bedrooms were a good size and very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were spotless and plentiful! There was a slight problem with the plumbing, which affected one bathroom on the top floor. This did mean that some guests had to come down and use the en-suite bathrooms on the first floor, however the owners made every effort to rectify this and there were workmen trying to fix it as we arrived. Luckily, there were so many bathrooms that it really didn't spoil the experience at all.
The garden was fantastic and would be perfect for a bbq or garden party. We also made very good use of the hot tub!
There was plenty of space in the house for our group and we found that noise from downstairs didn't carry up to the bedrooms, so those who stayed up late didn't disturb anyone sleeping.
Antonia, the owner, was extremely helpful and made sure we had all the information we needed for our stay, plus extra information about the local area. She offered her help with organising many aspects of our stay, from caterers to pamper companies to reliable taxi services.
Every single member of our group commented on what a fantastic house this was to stay in. We felt very at home and relaxed during the weekend and would not hesitate to visit again. We could not fault it!

Liked best: The beauty of the house and garden and how well equipped it was for our large group.
Liked least: The plumbing problem on the top floor meant one bathroom was out of use and the other could only be accessed through someone else's bedroom. The water pressure wasn't the strongest for showers, but everything else was so fantastic it didn't matter!

“Family Celebration”
Reviewed June 24, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We organised this special Birthday Celebration with fear & trepidation but we need not have worried. Antonia helped with lots of information and greeted us on arrival quickly followed by a delivery from Waitrose with more than enough food for 22 people over four days. The accommodation was more than adequate which was appreciated due to the weather which was appalling apart from the first afternoon. The children had a Jubilee tea at one end of the terrace while the adults relaxed at the other end with their own refreshments! Even though the weather deteriorated there was plenty to do in Stratford during the day and the eleven children had a wonderful time both inside and outside the house.

“A brilliant location for a family celebration”
Reviewed June 20, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We have just returned from an excellent weekend at Ashleigh House near Henley-in-Arden. My family filled the house (there were 26 of us) to celebrate my 60th birthday. The bedrooms were beautiful, most were en suite and very well furnished. The house was very well equipped and the family particularly enjoyed the snooker room, hot tub and the reclining sofas in the main lounge.

The house was very well managed by Antonia, who, without being intrusive, could not have done more for us. She was very friendly and always helpful.

All in all a brilliant location for our celebration.

“This was a superb location for our family get-together. Smart, clean, spacious. The jacuzzi was awesome!”
Reviewed June 20, 2012 for a stay in March 2012

A really wonderful stay at Ashleigh house with 20 or so of my extended family. The property was beautifully presented, clean and functional throughout. The kitchen was more than adequate, and it was great to be able to all eat together in one room. The jacuzzi was my favorite feature! Garden also much enjoyed for an Easter mroning easter egg hunt. Thanks

“What a wonderful weekend”
Reviewed June 19, 2012 for a stay in March 2012

We had nearly 30 of the family get together at Ashleigh House at the end of March. The helpfulness of Antonia before and after our stay was brilliant. We had an excellent time - all managed to eat round one table (didn't think we would find anywhere big enough for that) - the accommodation was really lovely and all our slightly awkward requests were met with 'yes' and a smile!

We would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone wanting a rendezvous in the Midlands.

Thanks so much.

Liked best: Great to find a property that was happy to house that number and that fact it was so private.
Liked least: Maybe the kitchen was a little small for large number catering, but we managed fine.
