Have been a few times and i have had good and bad and this visit was no different. It was a very busy, sunny, evening and the staffing levels were not sufficient to ensure a speedy service.
The food was great and the staff were polite and helpful but we had to wait 40 minutes after the main meal was finished for dessert, which only arrived after I had gone inside to address the situation.

Well, as I've said before - I rarely give poor reviews but I'm afraid this is one of the few.

The pub is situated on a crossroads in the village is easy to find. It has a large car park and outside seating area. The inside is olde worlde, but warm and welcoming (in so far as the furnishings go). The food is standardised chain food and is reasonably priced; a meal for three of us on a Tuesday night cost £41 (including 3 soft drinks) - we used the special evening meal deal where you get a 2 course meal for around £10. The drinks were slightly expensive (large coke £3) considering but what can you do?

The one thing that lets this place down, every time I've been to it (& this is my first review after 5 or 6 visits) are the staff. They appear constantly stressed, understaffed, overworked and generally unhappy to be there (that may well be the case, but the fact remains - it's their job to be there). During ordering the server kept tutting and impatiently swaying as if to hurry us up, someone then shouted from across the bar "don't forget to tell them about the 45 minute wait for food!", (this was audible), she then told us about the 30 minute wait (the wait was in fact, as briefed; 45 minutes). In the many prior visits there are hardly ever any staff on - today's visit I counted 4. Two behind the bar and two taking orders out; I didn't see a manager at all.

In summary, this is a good pub and as long as you go for the friends / family you're with and don't mind a wait for food and a questionable staffing problem.

Go for the social occasion, not for the service.

Have been to this pub a number of times and never had a frightening experience like other reviewers. Called in with the good lady on a sunny Saturday and relaxed in the beer garden. Drinks and food ordered to eat outside. (cutlery provided was grubby but the bar maid was seriously apologetic and it was rectified VERY quickly - not a shining example of attention to detail but you can only rate on how problems are resolved once they happen). Food - Boar Burger and Gourmet Steak burger cooked well and served promptly. Overall another solid performance (and the first time eating outside). It'll be on the list when wanting to get out of the busy bits. A pub in a rural location reflecting it's old charm.

Good choice of well cooked food at a reasonable price. Nice outside eating area and plenty of parking space.

Went for a meal with hubby on Saturday night instead of cooking - lovely atmosphere and very busy. Had yummy bubble & squeak with bacon & poached egg (£3.99 each) and then I had lamb shoulder, mashed pots & green beans in red wine gravy & hubby had fish pie (prawns, salmon & white fish) with cheesy potato topping & mixed veg. Followed by costa coffee/pomegranate tea. Total of £41.65 (including pint lager & diet coke). Only thing that didn't happen that should have happened was the waitress checking on our meals but as all was fine it wasn't a problem. Will eat there again as like the choice of the menu. Also the two meals for £10.99 Mon-Thurs looks good. Lovely friendly waitress looked after us too.
