I have not been here for a couple of years now but as the company is paying then not much choice.
This hotel was really nice just after it opened and really should have done well due to the fact that the resteraunt area has a lovely view of the river tyne, but the amazing thing is that it still apears to be busy.
Things that are wrong:-

Room 1) Safe was locked when I arrived so unusable
2) 2 Televisions in use, it apears one (flat screen) has just been installed however no-one sees the sense in removing the old one from the desk
3) Furniture in rooms a bit tired but not bad.
4) Cleaning staff not removing dirty glasses from the rooms.

Conservitory resteraunt:-
This is the area of the hotel which is a crying shame, problems include:- Having plenty of staff floating around but no one acturaly making the effort to the customer who has just entered and sat down obviously looking for refreshments, eventualy resort to standing at the bar to get attention.
Eventualy get coffee, not good.
Food, vegetables unedible cooked for far to long and soft/mushy, rest of meal edible but so.so.
Service from staff still very patchy, again lots of staff physicly there but not co-ordinated, i.e one bringth the wine glass, then one taketh away again without asking if you would like a glass of wine in addition to current drink, service is just a bit to brisk and abrupt once it starts.

The quantity of tables should be reduced in the conservitory(also lounge would benifit from a few removals) so that you are not being pushed past/dodging around other diners.
One can only hope that this stay will improve.....i dont hold out on that.

Called for a coffee in the conservatory to consider the hotel for future visits to South Shields. Hotel in fantastic location and looks very good, with an impressive looking conservatory dining room. Unfortunately, once inside, we had to wait a long time to be served even though only 2 other tables were occupied. The staff simply went through the motions and were too sloppy to impress, in their attitude and in their dress.

This hotel could be such a wow, but it seemed obvious that their standards are fairly low, and the potentially fabulous restaurant resembled a tired corner cafe.

OK if you are not fussy.

Gorgeous location, dated look, but nice overall. Great food and very friendly restaurant staff but two big things that I experienced.
Very very rude staff at the reception and smelly towels. My suggestion take ur own towels.

This hotel was very surprising - its not a trendy 'boutique' hotel, doesn't have cool and modern rooms, but it was extremely well appointed. We had a standard room which had an iron and board, hair dryer, trouser press, safe, TV and all the usual hotel room stuff. It was clean, comfy, warm and well run. We were very impressed for the price!

Gorgeous location but pretty mediocre hotel.
No huge complaints but tired looking room and average food.

We went to this hotel & stayed 2 days to attend a wedding which was taking place at this hotel.
the hotel is spacious and clean. The staff were brilliant , the wedding breakfast and evening reception food was delicious . Rooms are good ,although we did have trouble with the swipe card key on a number of occasions.
