“Currylicious!”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

This is the third time we have dined a the Asha and every time its been fantastic. The curry is great, the staff are more than happy to make modification to a meal (more spice!) and even the chips are decent! Easily the best Indian restaurant in South Shields.

“First timers - definately wont be the last.”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

We chose the Asha Balti House after having walked passed it to our car on numerous occacsions after visiting the Star of India further down the road.

What a treat we have been missing out on!

The surroundings are very modern and comfortable and the staff extremely pleasant and accomodating.

We chose from the 'Specials Menu' ranging from £6.95 - £8.95 for 3 courses (starter, curry, rice, coffee/icecream)

We had the onion bhaji & bhuna prawn starters, both delicious and well presented.

Next we had a chicken madras (80p extra for breast) and a chicken jalfrezi...again both extremely nice with the jalfrezi coming out on top!.

The quality of the food and ingredients were far superior to the other place we usually frequent and the presentation was also good.

The staff are very friendly, the owners son, who was working that evening, came over and asked if everything was ok and we had a nice chat, he explained about the family business and some of the history of it and made us feel appreciated as new customers.

I have read reviews here that claim they were more or less ignored because they were not regulars...I have to say we did not see any evidence of this whatsoever as we were newbies our selves.

We will definately be returning to Asha very soon.

“Good quality and price”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

The restaurant was very busy as it was a Friday night. The service couldn't have been any quicker because of the amount of people there. I would see this as a good sign though. There is so much competition in Ocean Road so a full restaurant is good! Food was lovely and we got a discount off the bill as one thing was not to one of our groups liking. Service was great.

“very disappointed!!!!”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

went to the asha last night to celebrate my Mams 51st birthday, had been recomened to try because of all the awards it has won. on first arrival things seemed as normal as in any Indian resterant, starters served quickly but found the chicken tikka rather grissely, were hardly finished the starters when the main meal arrived, on first glance everything looked perfect plated out are meals, had to use a magnifying glass to find the chicken, the dupiaza curry was like olive oil with tomato purée with chunks of green pepper, the chicken kurma was tasteless so it being me Mams favourite curry that she always orders was nearly crying so we complained they apologised and said they would sweeten one up and give us a new one but all's they done was add two ton of sugar a little bit more sauce and gave us the same kurma back, this time it was worse and was like eating honey with little cubes of chicken so we were unable to eat this one, they never brought us clean plates or cutlery and expected us to put it on a plate with the curry we sent back in the first place, we Wernt surprised the waiter never come back to ask if everything was alright because they new it wasn't. the whole time we were there we felt like intruders they never once came over and asked if we were happy, it seemed like they were only interested in their regular customers. as it was my Mams birthday and we were so gutted didn't want to have to complain again felt embarrassed uncomfortable couldn't leave quick enough after paying are bill. we didn't leave a tip because they didn't deserve one. we had to go straight to McDonald's because we were starving!!!! carnt get my head around how this resterant is claiming to have won so many awards for its food because driving along home on ocean road every other resterant was bludging with customers, so the asha obviously just gets faithful regulars

We have been here twice before and the food was standard.
