I have stayed in many B&Bs all over the country, but none have been as bad as this. When we arrived, we were met by one of the owners. He was scruffy, and said barely anything. When asked what time breakfast was his wife (Gill) showed up in the dining room and shouted it at us from there: she couldn't even be bothered to come over, say hello, and tell us at a normal volume. We then went to our room. He didn't show us anything except how to turn on the electricity in the bathroom (a switch on the wall outside: without that on the shower wouldn't work!), and then left us to it. Didn't see either of them again until briefly during breakfast on both mornings we were there and then very briefly when checking out.

As to the room, there was very little space. A twin room should have space for both occupants, but the phrase "couldn't swing a cat" comes to mind. The TV was in a very awkward position so that the only way you could see it properly was to stand up, the beds leaving only a small gap to squeeze through when you wanted to move, too many cushions and pillows everywhere, nowhere to put things (including no drinks mats for your cuppa!), a silly lille chest of drawers/bedside table which couldn't hold anything useful in or on top, and a wardrobe which didn't look too stable. As for the en-suite... The hot tap moved a lot under any touch, the toilet roll was unreachable unless you stood up and turned around, the shower screen broken, but the shower itself was fine.

When my parents left a review of they're also abysmal room, minutes later we got a phone call. It was Gill. Throwing verbal abuse at us from South Shields because we dared to leave a truthful review. Beware!

It makes me wonder how it got four stars. I wouldn't give it two! Avoid!

Unfortunately not a very warm welcome! Surly staff. Tiny double room with unusable hanging rail (no wardrobe), only a tiny chest of drawers. No room to unpack, but no room to put the suitcase anywhere either! Very basic, minimal bathroom consumables and tea tray. Poor quality quilt cover (no buttons to fasten the bottom of it). No bedside cabinet. Not sure how this can be a 4 star?

Room 2 Executive Super King. I expect a Desk or Table - not in this room. The six foot bed leaves very little space for anything else. If the proprieters wished to split the bed to make twin beds the only easy chair would have to be taken out of the room. Only one reading lamp on a small corner shelf with a 12" gap between bed and window. The 32" LCD TV on the wall does allow passage. There is a pleasant breakfast room were they serve a good fresh meal.
No. 2 Bedroom is not really suitable for two people and the executive Tag should be replaced by the word Premier.

From arriving to leaving, Gill made you feel welcome and wanted. She and her assistant gave you the impression that nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast filled you up for the day. Shops, parks, beach and the old Roman remains are all close by.
