Firstly I would like to say that the facility as been taken over since the only other review on here so you can discount what they had to say.

We booked a lesson fo 3 boys ages 9-13. The first communication was with Alison who was nothing short of professional, informative, knowledgable, friendly and welcoming. Alison advised us on the best lesson, gear required etc.

On arrival it turned out our son's mountain board had been put together incorrectly, the boys immediately dismantled it and put it back together correctly, only then to find out it had a slow puncture, which they also mended - at no cost all in time for his lesson. You don't get service like that anymore !!

The lesson was fabulous, the 3 boys had 1 instructor who taught them the basics in the 1 hour slot and all boys did brilliantly. They were then left to their own devices (with us present) to practise what they had learnt. The guy who had taught them was available for advice which was reassuring. Other facility users were so friendly offer encouragment and telling our boys they were doing well and how they could adapt moves to make it easier etc.

The surroundings are gorgeous and it was a pleasure to hang around some green hills with stunning scenery rather than a concrete skate park for a change !

We will certainly be back and from what the new owners (one of them has worked there for 13 years so knows all there is to know!) say they have lots of new and exciting plans for Ride the Hill an we can't wait to be part of it.

- Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leads.
- A few lockers are available
- Hot drinks are available and snacks such as chocolate & crisps
- No indoor seating so dress warm ! You won't want to miss what is going on up the slopes anyway!

Thank you

“Mountain Boarding Poor - Tutors are Lazy & Dangerous - Do Not Go if a Beginner”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2012

Visited "Ride The Hill" (QV: www.ridethehill.com) - Part of the Priory Farm complex for Mountain Boarding. My two children (8 & 10) were part of a group of 20 or so.

Setting looked great, as did the hill, with a ski style lift so boarders could ride up the hill, different areas for beginners, downhill (speed) runs and trick & obstacle courses.

Afternoon started well, safety briefing and kitted the kids out with helmets, pads and guards. 3 instructors on the hill seemed reasonable for the size of group.

Unfortuntely, it all rapidly got worse.

One of the boards given to one of the boys - the footstraps were broken; potentially lethal. The instructor tried to fix it - without tools, and it was still very loose and obviously going to break again quickly. When challenged the instructor did swap it for another board - albeit reluctantly.

Another board allocated had one wheel which was totally flat - the tyre barely stayed on, there was no air in it whatsoever. The instructor refused to change this board and insisted my 10 year old ride it. Unfortunately, because of the flat wheel, the board would not build up any speed nor would it execute any turns. The instructor refused point blank to change the board, probably because it would have meant going to the bottom of the hill to get a replacement and he was too lazy.

However, this is not the worst example of the instructors poor attitude and laziness. They spent much of the lesson chatting to each other, showing off doing somersaults and tricks, and generally paying no attention to the safety of 20 beginners aged between about 7 and 14 and just letting the kids get on with it - with the attendant risks.

When we left we raised briefly with the manager. He excused the board with the flat wheel by saying that the instructors swapped the boards around, and gave the slower kids boards with less tyre pressure. They might be supposed to do this, but there was no board swapping, just chatting, somersaults and tricks from the instructors. Be clear, there was no instruction after 10 minutes. Also, we were not talking about low tyre pressure, but no air whatsoever in the tyre (I could have removed it from the wheel without tools!).

After we had been there 15 minutes, we were considering as a party venue. After an hour, we vowed to never go back and both kids were thorughly disillusioned.

While the hill and the shop etc may be great for experienced boarders - unless they retrain the existing instructors or recruit some new ones, beginners should stay away.
