“Absolutely beautiful”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

I stayed at this hotel for one night following a wedding. The staff were wonderful, with nothing being too much trouble. The bedroom was beautiful with double bed, large TV, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel itself was welcoming with lovely areas to relax in and stunning views across the valley.

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed to be very good.

We stayed 2 nights with friends on a dinner bed & breakfast deal. From the welcome at reception to the service at the bar, dining room & spa nothing was too much trouble for the excellent hotel staff. Food & wine was of a high quality. We have stayed at a hand picked hotel previously with equal satisfaction and will definitely choose one again.

Room Tip: We had an executive room - spacious and beautifully fitted

My husband and I have just returned from, unfortunately, one night in this lovely hotel. I say unfortunately,as we would have loved another night or two. From the moment we arrived,we were treated as honoured guests, firstly by Steph in reception and then by every other member of staff we encountered. Our room, the Shelley Suite, was beautiful with lovely views right across the Downs and had the most comfortable sleigh bed we have ever slept in,with every amenity as befits a high class hotel. We used the swimming pool and steam room in the spa, which is housed in a separate building and had a very energetic and pleasant hour there. Dinner, preceded by a glass of pink bubbly and delicious canapés,was truly excellent (compliments to the chef and his brigade) and the dining room was very ably managed by a lovely lady,Louise, who also made us feel very special. All the staff appear to be well trained in the art of making guests feel comfortable and cared for and they all enjoy their job and are proud of their hotel, which is quite a rarity in this day and age. I have mentioned in trip advisor reviews in the past, how some of our 4 & 5* hotels are not worthy overall of their star rating, but Nutfield Priory is the exception and is,most definitely,a jewel in the crown of the British hotel industry as far as treating their guests as people and not as clients! We are now looking forward to a return trip very soon.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for two nights for our daughter's wedding ceremony. Lovely hotel in quiet location (even though surprising close to the town centre) with lovely views of the countryside. Rooms are well presented with efficient air conditioning. Good breakfast selection which we had in our room on both mornings which was delicious. All staff we came across were polite and helpful. We were especially impressed by the helpful and hard working Elisa. I used the swimming pool on the second morning which I had to myself. A decent size and pleasant temperature. I would not hesitate to stay at this or any other Handpicked hotels in the future.

Booked a deal from lastminute.com for me and my sister. The deal included a spa day, dinner and overnight stay. Initially the spa day was meant to be on the day of arrival but I then found out I had an appointment I couldn't change but when I called the reservations line they were so helpful and changed it to the day of departure for us. We arrived late afternoon and check-in was quick and easy and we were in a room on the top floor of the main house. We had drinks in the library followed by an amazing dinner in the restaurant. Service was extremely attentive and everyone was friendly and helpful. After a great nights sleep we then had a day in the spa and left for home very rested and relaxed! I will be looking out for future deals!

We were staying at this hotel for a friends 30th, and were staying on the Sunday Night Offer. The offer itself was great with champagne, canapes, dinner and breakfast included.

Arriving at the hotel it is very grand. We arrived very early, and were in the midst of all the guests checking out. The checkin/out area is very small and so it could become very cramped. Terrance (Reception manager) spotted us, and we explained we knew we were early, but that the rest of the party were due soon and wanted to spend the day in the spa. He said it was probably a bit busy at the moment, but we were welcome to go the spa. As it happens it suddenly quietened down, and we were able to do the registration. Terrance, also organised a taxi for myself whislt my wife went to meet the others at the spa. From the moment we arrived, there was a real top notch service...something that was not to disappear over the whole evening.

Our rooms were ready late afternoon, which was fine as I only got back from the football late and the others were relaxing in the spa. I can not comment on the facitlities of the spa as I did not use them, but my wife did say she had definately seen better. For somewhere that is meant to be relaxing, having kids running around does not help. We were shown to, what I assume, is a standard room and this was perfectly adequate. It was very nicely decorated, and was a decent size. However, the air conditioning was not working. We tried various things to get it to work but it just would not. I popped to reception and spoke to Chris, who was very prompt in coming to the room. He explained that as it was a Sunday there was no maintenance staff, and we would need to move to another room. We were very kindly upgraded to the Shelly Sweet, which was absolutely devine. Also a special mention to the reception team, as they very kindly upgraded the Brithday girl and her husband to the "honeymoon" sweet. We did discover in the morning, that in fact no ones air conditioning had been working, and they had slept in sweat boxes.

As it was a birthday, we had a private dining area to ourselves. Pavel deserves all the praise in the world, as he was exceptionally good at looking after us. Glasses were never empty and he made sure that everything ran smoothly. the only reason for not giving a full 5* is I did not think the food was all that great. There were certain elements that were lovely (the roast pork belly), but others that were just ok (the ceasar salad and one leaf).

We had a wonderful evening here and would return. The Service is what makes this place, so please never lose that.
