Description: Your first time here you might find us a little difficult to find as the pub is down an un-adopted lane in the bottom of a valley, backing on to the Bourne stream. "The Bat" is a traditional country/village pub retaining the charm and atmosphere of what a pub should be. An open fire, panelled walls, nooks and crannies, hops hanging from the old oak beams, cricketing memorabilia and six shining brass hand pumps for ale. Outside there is a covered patio area with grape vines overhead and a large garden with flower borders, a children’s play structure and plenty of seating. There is also a large car park.We offer a good and wholesome selection of light snacks, main meals and a mouth watering selection of homemade puddings and desserts. All our food is cooked and prepared in house by our team.Crossing the generations ,the pub is a meeting place for all and you will be sure of a genuine welcome

“Lovely food, limited menu”

I loved the food, however for some of our party the menu was a bit limited. Nice, fresh salads and great play area for kids. Real character pub- recommended!

“Delicious desserts!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

A great place to go for a relaxing lunch or dinner. Friendly service - the staff at the pub were very welcoming. Good range of desserts which can easily be shared one between two - portions are large! Highly recommended.

“Very pleasant quiet lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

I took my daughter here for lunch to catch up with news as it is nice and local to me.
We sat outside under the grape vine on a warm sunny week day.I had whitebait with a side salad and she had the soup of the day. These were both very good.Although sufficiently satisfied we just couldn't resist a pudding from their tempting selection. She opted for a berry meringue concoction and I had Mississippi mud pie which I confess, although delicious,I just couldn't finish as it was very rich.
It was really very nice sitting there in the lovely garden and I hope to return soon. I suspect it does get quite busy though at weekends.

“Well Worth a Visit”

Popped in for a Quiet Drink ended up staying for a meal. Absolutely wonderful Food and The Desserts are out of this work. The Staff were very Chatty and Friendly and even though they were very busy they made a fuss of our dog. A great place for Children also large play area.

“A favourite!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

We go often to the Bat & Ball, mostly for lunch and sometimes in the evening, and are rarely disappointed with the choice of menu; I nearly always go for the fish pie or Thai chicken curry! Compared to the many grotty pub offerings around, this place is heaven, as are the mouth watering home-made desserts. This venue puts most other pubs to shame. The only drawback is the bumpy access off the main road, but it's well worth the effort of getting there. The proprietor, Annie and her team work hard, and always greet visitors with a smile. If we are doubtful where to eat out, the answer is usually 'Let's go to the Bat and Ball.'
