Efficiently served with a smile. Flexibility when ordering. No pressure. Good quality food. Central location in the town.

“Enjoyable lunch”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

We called in here for lunch on a brief visit to Farnham. Thoroughly enjoyed the food..., batons with garlic/mayonnaise followed by poulet breton/fishcakes accompanied by two glasses of wine. All nice and freshly cooked and very tasty. When we arrived the restaurant was fairly full; nevertheless the solitary waiter/owner? managed to provide a courteous and swift service. The restaurant is well situated in the main street in Farnham. From our table by the window we were able to watch the world go by; there were also seats outside on the pavement where a few hardy souls braved the elements to sit and have coffees etc. The interior is basic with worn wooden tables and chairs which along with the decor all add to the French atmosphere. One small suggestion...some audible French background music would have added to the experience, but overall a very enjoyable lunch at a very pleasant restaurant.

“Raw onion soup + burnt burger = car crash!”
Reviewed January 31, 2014 via mobile

The evening started very well, we were seated at the table we requested when we booked and our celebration champagne was nicely chilled and served with a flourish. Service was good although the restaurant was full, but the food?!!
I could go on at great length but the bottom line is that our French onion soup didn't have a toasted cheese crouton just soggy bit of bread in it, no cheese. The onions were so undercooked they were crunchy - not a good start.
Next course continued the theme of simple food gone wrong, really black edged incinerated burger in a soggy bun, fries totally Inedible as glistening with salt, average steak frites but at least chips were edible.
Still hungry but wasn't going to waste any more money as had already racked up over £80.
Told waitress I had left the chips, burger and bun because they were inedible - just a little Gallic shrug!
When paying we were asked did we enjoy our meal? Said no not at all, the reply was just please enter your pin!
So off we went back home to eat toast and suffer raging indigestion all night - maybe it was the champagne - NOT!,
Am I bitter - YES, it was supposed to be a special meal that had been eagerly anticipated and I feel really disappointed.

“Not what it used to be”
Reviewed January 6, 2014 via mobile

We have always been fans of cafe rouge in the past, however, of late it has definitely gone down hill. The menu is not as good; its less adventurous and with far smaller portions. Also they seem to buy their tables from a supplier who fits them with a built in wobble and permanently sticky... Not pleasant. I would add however that the staff have always been efficient, friendly and helpful. As such I'm sure the blame for the decline of cafe rouge lies further up
