This is one of our local pubs which has had a chequered past but has now been taken over by a young couple who work hard and 'aim to please'. We sat by a log fire to have our starter, before proceeding to a main course. Although the starter was not on the menu, it was suggested by the new chef 'Tom'. We were delighted both with the food and his presentation.
This is a dog and person friendly pub which we would recommend to anybody.

This was my third visit to The Bluebell at Dockenfield but the first for Sunday lunch. The roast beef was delicious. My daughter had the roast Belly Pork also great. Veg, yummy and seasonal.
Delicious desserts.
Staff have always been welcoming , quick and unobtrusive. All in all a lovely lunch in a cosy pub

Having visited the Bluebell for a drink on previous occasions, I was aware that the service was questionable as there was always a wait to order drinks. The main problem is the staff seem to flit between working behind the bar or waiting on tables but don't seem to do a good job of either. It was one of those days where we were constantly prompting the waiting staff to clear the table or serve the next course - in total we were there for over 2 1/2 hours for a simple Sunday lunch.

Another word of warning is that on a Sunday they don't operate the full menu, it is a 4 choice blackboard menu....something they failed to tell me when booking.

A nice pub in a nice setting, good food when it arrives but be prepared for a bit of chaos getting it!

4 of us popped in today at about 2.30 to see if they were still serving food and had a fantastic value meal from the Bluebell's £5 Monday menu (Goat's cheese tart salad, Gammon, Egg & Chips and Roast Pheasant wrapped in bacon with gnocchi).
The food came out in good time and was great sized portions for the cost and was really tasty. Service was fantastic and even though they had finished serving by the time we had eaten they offered us desert.

Overall the Bluebell continues to be a great place to have drink and a meal and we will definitely be going back.

We went to The Bluebell last night (Saturday 19th) for their Spanish evening. The pub is very nice indeed with a lovely local atmosphere. The food on the whole was good though one had to wait a long time between courses, like an hour. The paella was not particularly good which was a shame as it is the most Spanish of all dishes so was chosen by many of the guests. Still the evening was very enjoyable and the long wait gave us all time to talk.
