“Outstanding !!”

We went here for Sunday lunch with some friends who live locally, the pub is on a nice street leading to the castle, parking can be an issue as its always busy.
The pub has loads of period character and charm some would say its messy and cluttered with all its odd tables and chairs everywhere, to me this all adds to the charm. Very cosy inside with open fire and the smell of wood burning. The staff were very nice and very matter of fact no generic false chain pub charm here. They sell a range of local beers hand drawn and very nice, we all had the sunday roast which is £11 which was very very good all parts cooked to perfection, finished off by the most gooey cheesecake at £6, sheer indulgence.
The place was packed so booking essential. If you want chic and modern with glass and chrome dont go to the nelson if you want traditional english charm thats a bit rough round the edges try it out.

Nice food, nice beers, nice staff. Very busy on a Friday - though not sure if that is a problem or not

“Nice surprise ”
Reviewed March 3, 2014 via mobile

Massively in to burger restaurants and visited many of the burger specific restaurants in London. Came here on a Sunday night with my friends and was massively impressed. Lovely table service (albeit the food took some time) and great surrounding. I had the 10oz Nelson burger and was massively impressed. Great meat, great taste and most impressive was the chips, so many people get them wrong but they were great here! Massive portion as well. Left a happy boy

“Good food in authentic surroundings”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

On our first trip to Farnham we fell across the Nelson Arms for lunch and how lucky we were. It is an old property which has been sympathetically restored with a lovely central fireplace and loads of beams etc

Since it was only lunch we opted for a beef bagette and a prawn sandwich, and it was a good job we were hungry. The prawn sandwich had half the north Atlantic supply in there but the best one was the beef bagette. It was stuffed with the softest and tastiest beef and was by a long way the best beef sandwich i have ever had.

Next time we will have a full meal based on today's experience.

“Great food and atmosphere”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

The pub is an old 16th Century inn with lots of character. Low ceilings, lots of beams, creaky furniture and a roaring fire.

We'd been here once before and enjoyed it, so had been meaning to come back.

5 of us ate and all enjoyed our meals. The menu is typically traditional british food. Between us we had game pie, slow cooked lamb and home made burgers. All very tasty.

The Hogs Back T.E.A. on tap was in good condition.

It was a Saturday night and the pub got very busy, so we were glad to have booked ahead or we would have been out of luck.

Only a 4 star rating because there was a very strong smell of cleaning fluids lingering. Perhaps to mask something more untoward. Even the camembert we had for starters was over powered. Fortunately it had subsided by the time our main courses arrived and certainly didn't ruin what was otherwise an enjoyable visit.
