“A little disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

We had some time to spare so decided to walk up the hill and visit the castle. Unfortunately it was closed for the Christmas period so we had to do with a walk around it. The castle has been nicely restored and is a good example of modern day preservation of our heritage. However not much to else to do there and our visit was over in 10 min. Worth a visit though.

“Castle is excellent - conference centre not so good :(”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

What a refreshing change, free parking, free entrance and a very interesting visitor centre - in the centre, the stone carvings around the high parts of the room are exceptional - the guide explained that they had been done by local art students. I would imagine this would be excellent for children in helping them to mentally explore castle life, with the replica armoury and engaging bite size story boards. I would highly recommend a visit to the castle! There are lots of steps, and uneven ground too, but then it is a castle and so I think most people should/would expect this!

Sadly the adjoining conference centre is not a place I would recommend, although the building (the Bishops Palace) and accomodation bedrooms are exceptionally beautiful and very well preserved. I have asked trip advisor to create a new listing for the Conference Centre so that I can honestly review it, as I can see there is another poor review on this "attraction" listing which is actually for the centre, and is dragging down the reputation of this interesting exhibit!

“Worth the walk!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

We had a free hour this morning before returning to Stoke after spending the weekend in Farnham for my cousin's wedding, so we walked up to the castle, which is 10 minutes walk from the town centre. It is free entry (although a nominal £1.00 donation is requested) and it is time well spent.

There was a very pleasant gent there, who was obviously a volunteer guide, who gave us a potted history of the castle and the area. As previous advisors have stated, there isn't a great deal to do or to see there, but it is good to walk around the keep and enjoy the fantastic views from the top. The well is also impressive.

“Probably better in the dry!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013

There is not a massive amount to see at Farnham castle. There is a small exhibition charting the history of the castle, which was relatively interesting, and also just the right size. The castle itself is not really that impressive - a ruin with relatively little left. The well is quite impressive, and on a clear day the views are probably fairly decent too.

To be honest, we didn't choose the right day to visit! It was raining fairly steadily, which made the visit to the castle a little unenjoyable. We visited the park the next day, and the castle did look a little more impressive, but it's not worth spending too long there!

Free entry into this castle, very well preserved ruin with interesting sections including remains of the original tower.
