“Lovely staff but dated room and poor food.”
Reviewed December 3, 2012 via mobile

The room was small and very dated/worn out looking. No bath, just a shower cubicle with a curtain. No free wifi in rooms but free in lobby area. Food was a basic selection and poor quality. I ordered the Beef Wellington which was the most expensive thing and it was awful. It was just a big soggy lump of pastry with the toughest piece of beef ever in the middle! The mashed potato had gon dry and chewy around the edges. Everything had a microwaved taste about it. The lobby and public areas are well designed and comfy. They are clean and modern so I was surprised to see my room which really needed a refurb. The double bed was tiny, barely big enough for 2 people. Parking is free and plentiful which is good. Breakfast is included and basic but better than expected - fresh pastries, bread, fruit, yoghurts and sausages and scrambled eggs so nice enough. Staff were all great - really friendly and helpful and always available when needed. Shame the food and room decor were a let down but a good stay overall.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I'm sorry to hear you did not enjoy our Beef Wellington. We value our guests opinions and I shall pass on your comments in January when we review our menu offering as a group. The hotel is in its four year now and we are continually working to keep up to date with general maintenance and decoration, to make sure that guests experience the product that we pride ourselves in. Finally thank you very much for your lovely comments regarding the staff, the team will be delighted to hear such positive feedback.

Kind Regards

This is a lovely Holiday Inn Express. I had a wonderful view from my room looking out towards the racecourse. The room was spotless and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and good shower which can be handheld. I love the blue light in the bathroom - perfect if you need to get up in the night. Breakfast was fine with choice of fruit, cereal, yoghurt, fresh pastries as well as toast and hot food - sausages, beans and scrambled egg. The double expresso was great! The breakfast was discreetly topped up and there was plenty of crockery and cutlery all beautifully clean. Staff all very polite, the only hitch was the card machine at check out which wasn't working properly but this was dealt with professionally.

This is a new hotel right on Epsom racecourse. Clean & attractive inside. Rooms & breakfast very basic. Ok for what it is. Staff reflect the hotel -: polite, but not exceptional. A transit hotel rather than one you'd want to spend a lot of time in.

We stayed here with our daughter and were pleased with size of the room. The room was as you would expect from Holiday Inn, clean and comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent for the epsom downs. The breakfast was good, reasonably stocked. The only negatives regarded the breakfast, firstly the orange juice tasted like a sugary syrup and was not very pleasant certainly not like real orange juice, and secondly the breakfast staff were a bit on the quick side at shutting down the breakfast, there were quite a lot of people still having breakfast when all the machines were switched off very promptly.

Thank you for taking the time to write your trip advisor review. Sorry you didn't enjoy our orange juice and that you feel breakfast was cleared away too quickly. We do extended breakfast hours at the weekend to accommodate the majority of our leisure guest. However it’s great to read that you were pleased with the size of the room and found it to be clean and comfortable. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Stunning hotel from outside and lobby area, great location.

However, bed was extremley uncomfortable and didn't sleep at all, ended up sleeping on the put me up bed on the floor with my children, which was far more comfortable!

Did bring this to staff member on receptions attention, but he wasn't very interested in my comments.

Breakfast was average - have had far nicer at Premier Inns. No staff around to direct to a table it really was just get on with it yourself.

Overall great hotel, just wish I had slept better!!

Thank you for taking the time to write your trip advisor review. I’m happy to read you enjoyed our location and over all found the hotel to be great. At Holiday Inn Express, unlike at a Premier Inn, we offer a free breakfast. This is a self-service buffet which includes 3 hot items; sausage, scrambled egg and beans plus a selection of cereals, fruits, toast, cheeses, yogurts, pain au chocolat and croissant . I am sorry to learn you didn't find the bed to be particularly comfortable and did not sleep very well. A mattress preference is very personal to the individual depending if they prefer hard or soft for example. Unfortunately our mattresses may not always be to every guests liking. Thank you again for your review, we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Spotlessly clean new hotel - very comfortable, quiet rooms, nice open lounge, breakfast room area. Bar and restaurant offering good range of food - little pricey but good quality. Good selection at breakfast - hot food continually topped up. Wonderful view across the street over The Downs. Great to see the horses being exercised and many people enjoying walks. Hotel was a little tricky to find from website directions. Wish the front desk had employee there at all times for assistance and it would have been helpful to have leaflets on local attractions and local maps available. Overall this was a great hotel for the price.
