3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

95.00 for two in a double superior room. This includes breakfast and a 3 course dinner using the hotels web discount code. Hotel was very nice being a 16C grade 11 listed building. Advised to book in at 2.00pm. Previously I had the opportunity to upgrade to a suite for a fee of 25.00. Arrived at 1345 pm and reception was unaware of my wish to upgrade. They wanted 100 for the upgrade but were willing to reduce this to 50.00, two minutes later I got a free upgrade as the receptionist read the booking details and appologised. Went to bar for lunch, uninspiring, bad service, average food. Told to return at 3.00pm as suite wasn't ready. Told at 3.00pm to return at 4.00pm (complimentary G&T offered). Suite ready at 4.00pm Fantastic suite (Selsdon suite).Went to spa for treatment - fully booked. No robes in suite had to argue for robes. Robes given willingly by health center rep. Pool, Steam room and sauna all really good and nice atmosphere. Dinner, 4 choices starters, 4 mains and 4 desserts. Untrained staff. Soup with no soup spoon. Pork belly chosen but not cooked thoroughly skin was undercooked and belly fat unappetizing. Panna Cotta above average, Wines OK. . Two JD's and coke 17.50, wine per bottle 23.00 or 6.50 per glass. Overall for 95.00 it was good value. Service by bar and restaurant staff let the side down, the management team were customer focused and had experience. Would I go again, Yes (just don't order JD),

Room Tip: Upgrade to suite room 257 fantstic

Stayed here for 4 nights on business. The building is spectacular and imposing, set in large grounds. Plenty of free parking.

Staff friendly, but appear to be sometimes under staffed, meaning queues for reception/room service calls going unanswered etc.

Unfortunately, the rooms are disappointing. Room 255 was clean and functional but very dated and smelled musty. Double bed is two singles joined together. Old-style tv (of the deeper than it is wide variety!). Disappointingly, no character features or high ceilings in room.

Sadly no wifi in rooms- for a hotel that advertises itself as a business/conference destination, this really isn't good enough.

Stay here if you get a good rate or just need somewhere to crash, but otherwise wouldn't recommend as there are better.

This hotel is stunning as you drive up the path towards it. It is a beautiful old building with a striking appearance. Inside is also old, and yes some areas in need of some renovation but this is its character. People who have commented that it needs doing up can't see through the charm of the years worth of history in this hotels features. What is important to me is that it is clean, and it is, from the rooms to spa to social areas, all very well cleaned and looked after.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We didn't have one bad thing to say about them.
Enjoyed a meal in the restaurant which was of a very good standard. My only negative thing to say about our whole stay Is that it took nearly an hour for our second course to arrive. When it did come out it was perfectly cooked and presented so worth the wait.
Our room was amazing. A superior room of good size and the bed was massive. Very comfortable stay.
Leisure club was very nice. Nice pool, jacuzzi, steam room sauna and gym.
Husband played golf and was very impressed with the course. The golf pro shop accepts 'green free' vouchers which gives you 2 for 1 so check out what times they accept them and save some Money.
We had a groupon deal which was very good value and we can wait to find the next one.
Beware it's £5 a pint!!

From the entrance lobby, to the corridors, to the views and not least the individual rooms, this hotel is a little different, and special! We stayed in the "Frankie Vaughn" room, and had a bottle of bubbly to greet us. The room was large and spacious, and the bed huge! I liked the fact that it wasn't a "flat pack" room, and loved the old style furniture. It was clean, and nicely presented. The food was lovely - a decent menu to choose from, and breakfast was great. The swimming pool is an interesting shape around an island, but the spiral stairs up to a tired steam room let it down a little. On our final morning, the hotel were setting up for a big conference, so our breakfast room was changed, and there was a little disruption to the smooth service, but I felt the staff handled it as best they could. Would stay again!

We stayed at this hotel because it was ideally situated for visiting friends and family in the area.

We were allocated a room (301) which was pleasant, large bed and good views over the gardens. Sadly, there was no hot water in the morning for a shower (not so pleasant!) and the adjoining locked door led into a suite where a couple had a "lively" night. Being an adjoining room, we almost felt they were in the room with us so we were allocated another room. This turned out to be a LGround one and had a tiny double bed with small window and was dark compared to the other room. We told them this was unacceptable and they moved us to G63 which was a large, spacious and bright room which was lovely.
The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble so highly recommended for service.
The hotel was very clean and tidy, and had lovely characteristic charm although parts were looking a little tired and could do with a re-vamp.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay and stayed a further night and would stay there again.

Room Tip: G63 was a large room, 301 was also a spacious room but beware of cold water as I believe this was a...

Arrived for a 2 night spa break, having heard bad reviews after we booked. But, we all had a lovely time and I decided to write on here (first time ever) to say thanks to the staff for making our stay a great one. The receptionist offered and changed our room on arrival- to a quieter one, as there was a wedding/private function on both nights we stayed. The room was spacious and clean, comfortable beds (one tip- take your own pillow if like me you like a flat one- they are all very plumped up) and perfect for our stay. Even small things like plenty of hangers in the wardrobe make a huge difference. The bathroom wasn't state of the art, but again clean and not cramped. The peace and the view from the room of the walled garden and golf course was relaxing and made us feel as if we had escaped for a weekend, far from the madding crowds!
The staff were excellent, attentive and cheerful. Jason (who made us his VIP's for the night) was great, the Spa staff again were lovely (highly recommend body exfoliation and massage) and the staff in the restaurant on Saturday evening were chatty, providing really good service. The food was delicious- good choice on the menu cooked beautifully- I wasn't at all hungry after eating and believe me that's a challenge in itself!
All in all, a relaxed, friendly place, not over budget, where you can chill with friends/family and feel refreshed afterwards. Would go again! Best thing- the staff, closely followed by the food!

Room Tip: If you want peace- ask for one away from the reception- bit of a walk but definitely recommended- di...

Last time we paid for an executive room & it was one fine but was of the ones with the low ceiling. This time we went for a basic room and it was fabulous! Room G01. Large and square, with a huge bed, on one of the 'sticking out' bits at the back of the hotel with a window across the whole of the back wall and wrapping round the sides. It was close to the dining room and kitchens, which is maybe why it was cheaper. There was a function in the dining room on the Saturday night which didn't finish until late, but I didn't mind this - with the door closed in the corridor and the windows closed in the room it was OK sound-wise.

The beautiful situation of this hotel puts it above many in the area. Another plus point is undoubtably its staff. They must make a point of employing people who are cheerful, caring and enthusiastic. The dinner was very good - we had the fish & chips, and it was lovely and presented beautifully. Not a huge piece of fish, though, but plenty of really good chips.

Something that could be improved was the breakfast. Nice room, good service but the coffee tastes instant, bacon & sausages not very well cooked & taste cheap. Source better quality please! It's small points like this - attention to detail - which lift a hotel from OK to fabulous. The Selsdon Park has the potential to be fabulous. We were told it's recently been taken over by Sheraton and I hope they will make the necessary investment, but without huge price hikes, please!
