“A great evening”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

We had a great evening in Friday at the chateau special dinner night. 3 course menu with choices! And a glass of wine with each course, food and wine were excellent alone with good service. The maître d talked us through the wines, picpoul de piney, carmenere gran reserva and desert wine, and the desert wine, an Aussie semilon! What value at £29.75 per person the restaurant was fall we will defiantly be back! The Hanna party!

“Not quite the place it once was”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

I last visited the Chateau some 20 years ago when it was considered one of the best restaurants in the Croydon area. I didn't really expect to have maintained those lofty standards but was a bit disappointed it now only aspires to be average, at least as far as the set 3 course dinner was concerned At £22pp it was a reasonable enough price but the menu was rather limited, the food portions on the small side and the service a little sloppy and rushed. The décor in the restaurant remains very pleasant but there were signs of wear, for example where my wife cut her finger on a screw protruding from a toilet door handle. On a Saturday night at least they are far more interested in catering for weddings and parties in the adjoining function rooms than catering for restaurant guests - as highlighted by the fact one of our servers was totally unaware of the contents of the set menu and admitted it was his first day. I don't blame him for that because management should have provided better induction training before starting. At the end of the meal we asked if we could sit in the bar for a drink whilst waiting for our taxi to arrive. No sooner had the drinks been served when we were inundated with the people having a birthday party who wished to take photographs around the focal point fireplace of the main players, clearly with permission from management but with no consideration for other bar users. To her credit, one member of the party apologised to us for the disruption being caused, but the staff said nothing until advising our taxi had arrived. Guess it might well be another 20 years before we go to the Chateau again given the other choices in the area.

Every now and then we get a review that puts a bitter taste to your mouth and in most cases is not from your regular clientele ,who support you for years and years by using the restaurant as often as they can but from guests who we have not sen for decades. And it seems that everything we do is never enough. We would like to welcome everyone and anyone to come to our establishment and give it a try.Obviously it's a traditional restaurant not like any other but that is the reason why it has survived for as many years as it has(since 1978)serving guests as best as we can to our ability. Our set menus have always been good value and have more choices available than most other restaurants offer.Theres also our A La cart menus available every day to choose from,so there's something for all at any time.
As a client visiting other restaurants,I have also had indifferent experiences but have always politely mentioned the concerns to the managements in order to rectify and avoid the pitfalls in future. We are here to serve and make sure your visit to us would be an enjoyable one.
Farid.

“Family Celebration”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

A further visit to The Chateau for a Lunch with ten of Our Family. We were welcomed by Farid and Jeremy and as always they make one feel Special. Although they were very busy with a Wedding the food and the attention we received by the Staff was truly excellent. Nothing is too much trouble and everybody in our party remarked on this excellent Restaurant. We hope we can find many excuses to come back again and again.

Would we want to go to anywhere else - NO NO NO

“Could be a lot better”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

i went to the chateau last night with my wife and 2 sons, there was a wedding reception upstairs, a private party in the back room and the restaurant had about 40 dinners, there was 2 waiters, serving the restaurant. Our food had been kept under the warmers for so long, skins had formed on the top of the sauces.
Why didnt the management bring in extra staff, when they know in advance they are fully booked.
for about £50 per person food and wine, i expect good service and food the Chateau offered neither.

“Wedding reception”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

We had just a small gathering of family & friends for our meal after our civil partnership . We were met at the front door by Jeremy (the ever helpful and attentive restaurant manager) who presented us with a glass of bubbly ! The meal and the service we second to none and I would always recommend a visit to The Chateau . They have both a set menu and Alacarte menu to choose from .
