The biggest mistake Malcom John made was closing le Cassoulet, which was arguable the best restaurant in Croydon.

Basserie Vacherin is a poor substitute, and basically just a rebrand of the Fish and Grill. Food is mediocre and the service nothing to write home about. Still being pretty standard fayre, its OK if you just want to eat and go.

We were intending to visit another restaurant in Croydon, Aqua but it was fully booked as usual left it to late. So we thought we would try Vacherin, the old Fish and Grill. We had a loverly evening very friendly staff, food was ok, average would be about right. I think the best judge of a good restaurant is how easy it is to book, it was very easy, so not very popular, and not all that busy for a Friday night. It's very French, all wines from France, which is very restricting and expensive, there are far better valued wines from other parts of the world. We had a 500 ml carafe which was 23pounds well over priced for what it was. Not sure we would rush back, there is nothing wrong with Vacherin, just not very special.

This was our first visit and we were not disappointed as soon as our party arrived we were shown to our table. Great service, excellent food, good atmosphere would definitely come here again.

Excellent fresh seafood, great steaks and the great lobster deal make this a really good restaurant especially for a family birthday celebration. So many great dishes on the menu that we can't wait to return and try something different each time.

Having eaten at this restaurant when it was Fish & Grill, we decided to visit again since the rebranding. Unfortunately the experience was not a good one. The quality of the food is still very high and enjoyable, however the service was very poor. Having booked my table for 20:30, and having given our order, we had to ask the waitress were our starters were at 21:30. I believe that this restaurant is under staffed and with inexperienced people. Its a shame to say that we will not be going back.
