Description: Found along George Street, just off the High Street in central Croydon, Bella Italia is a favourite Italian restaurant for affordable eats. Decorated in the trademark rustic country style with tiled flooring and warm hues, this Croydon outlet of the popular restaurant group is always busy. The menu is wide and varied with something for everyone. Start with a tasty bruschetta topped with tomatoes, red onion, basil and rocket and follow with a steaming bowl of mushroom risotto. Desserts like the Godfather (chocolate fudge brownies, vanilla and toffee ice cream, chocolate sauce and fresh cream) ensure a meal is rounded off in style.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Visited Bella Italia Saturday evening and on arrival found they had not got our table for 6 available. We had personally visited this restaurant 6 weeks before to ensure our booking was registered correctly for 7.00 p.m. and also 'phoned a couple of days before to check the time, but when we arrived they said they had it in for 6.00 p.m. and could not give us a table!!! We were naturally annoyed at this especially as it was a celebration and more annoyed at the attitude at the person who gave us no apology whatsoever. However, in the end she managed to find us a table and we found out from our waitress, who was lovely, that our booking had indeed been initially registered for 7.00 p.m. but when it was transferred over someone had mistakenly put it in as 6.00 p.m. so entirely their fault! We spent over £200 on a very ordinary meal and were not even offered a complimentary drink to compensate for their mistake. Due to this appalling customer service we will definitely not be returning to this restaurant.

“Didn't get as far as eating...”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

The place was empty yet we were given a small table for two in a dingy corner. We tried to move tables since there was no-one else in the place, but were told very rudely 'you've got to sit there'. We haven't GOT to sit anywhere, we left. Judging by other reviews, we were lucky we didn't eat anything!

“Awful treatment”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

Want to try a Faulty Towers experiance or the two Ronnies Rook resturant? Go to the Bella Italia in George Street. No customers, directed to the worst table in the place and could not change, so we just left. Five front of house staff and no customers. Makes you wonder how they make any money. Rude, no customer focus. Don't go there.

“Italian Cafe”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

We went to Bella Italia for a pre-concert (Fairfield Halls) meal.
The plan was for a quick single course & a couple of beers; which is what we got.
Adequate for the occasion, but very average service & average food quality. Nearly £25 per head which was not good value for what we had.
I last went to Bella Italia for lunch about 7 years ago, I’m certain it was independent then and I recollect being reasonably impressed. Chain ownership has certainly not done anything for the restaurant. To summarise: as a Café – adequate. As a restaurant – look elsewhere; which for Croydon is not so easy to find a good retaurant

Myself and my partner had a voucher for Bella Italia so drove out of our way to the Croydon branch as that was the closest one to us. My partner ordered spaghetti carbonara which he found a lump of mince and something else from a completely different dish. When he complained, the manager on shift didn't apologise once; she just took the dish away from him and came back with a menu. She almost seemed annoyed that he'd complained! Then, by the time I had finished my dish, (which i found a piece of cling-film in) my partner then got his new dish. When it came to paying, the manager said our voucher card was invalid so we had to pay £35. I noticed that the manager was extremely short and abrupt in the way she answered the phone and dealt with fellow customers. Also, the toilets were dirty. I'd not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
