“Nice Hotel”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

The Hallmark Croydon is a nice hotel. I had a double room which was spacious and tidy. The room had been cleaned to a high standard. My room was on the 5th floor at the back of the hotel and this room did not suffer from excessive noise. I am please to say that the boiler had been fixed and there seemed to be plenty of hot water. Unfortunately the lift was not working, this was not a problem for me, but it was for some residents who were not as fit as I am. The breakfast was good, it was the normal buffet style that you get in hotels these days. The lady on reception was very helpful and pleasant.

Came here for a christmas party on 8th Dec and I must say this has to be the best christmas party i have been at in a long time.

All the staff were very charming and welcoming. Arrival drink in the Dakota suite was champagne as you would expect and the food was delivered hot and very very tasty. Bar service at times was a little slow and no card accepted on this private bar but you just have to go to the main bar if you want to pay by card... no hassles.

Music was tremendous... DJ was a great laugh and got everyone involved from the very begining. Few bad songs but what do you expect when you open up your song list to requests,... Hard to keep everyone happy all of the time.

Great hotel, great service, great food and great

Didnt sleep as i had the misfortune to be sleeping next to a christmas party til midnight. Restaurant service terrible, slow and quite rude staff. Rooms were okay i suppose, not worth the money despite my employer paying for it. Dont go unless you're a sado masochist.

We love travelling to different places and booked on a deal which included B&B tapas and wine. Not being from the area did not know what to expect and when we booked were told we could expect a luxury room as part of our deal.
When we arrived were surprised to find it was beautifully decorated and warm - the reception area, bar and seating areas very upmarket for an older hotel, obviously due to the recent refurbishment, and is next to the old Aerodrome building on the main Purley Road very easy to find. Our room was on the 7th floor overlooking the back of the hotel, very comfortable bed, very quiet, had a fridge, free wi-fi, large Samsung flat screen tv - beautifully furnished and finished.
The bottle of wine was in our room and warmed (Red) there were lots of tea and coffee sachets with plenty of milk.
We thoroughly enjoyed our tapas - delightful selection of garlic ciabata bread - smoked salmon and olives + other bits and pieces served between 5.30-7.30 in the bar area - bar area quiet and comfortable bar and stocked a good selection of beers and wines.
The breakfast was extensive from full english to fresh fruits - Jams and crossants - with a very relaxed atmosphere - found all the staff to be very friendly, approachable and helpful.
Buses go outside the hotel or accross the road to the city centre and London is reachable from here, get an Oyster card as is much cheaper to travel by public transport and the traffic is really busy here.We drove into the city centre and could not park as unfortunately was so busy. There is a very nice pub/restaurant in the complex over the road called the Gypsy Moth if you wish to stretch your legs.
We thouroughly enjoyed our stay, the hotel was lovely, we would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend to anyone looking to try somewhere different, it is great value for money.

Room Tip: Enjoy a luxury room if you can

My lovely children arranged a surprise 50th Party at this hotel and from their point of view and friends and family that attended they will NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. Guests began to arrive and TRY and buy drinks without success because there was no change and they ran out of change, coke and lemonade BEFORE the party began. Cards were not accepted at the bars and guests were told to try and use their cards at the main bar - bar staff mislead guests by saying cards arent accepted here when they were. Several of my guests including myself had booked rooms and when the party ended we went to have a drink in the main bar which was promptly shut by the rudest bar manager I have ever had the misfortune to encounter and when we challenged him and told him we were residents he called the police!!! The police arrived in 2 cars and when they entered the bar they said there was nothing that could be done and left wihout arresting/warning any of the guests, my wish was that they had arrested the bar manager for wasting their time. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE UNPROFESSIONALISM OF THE BAR MANAGER - HE PROBABLY LOST THE COMPANY A FEW THOUSAND STERLING THAT NIGHT.

I have stayed twice in this hotel, both times in single rooms which are fine and quite comfortable. The restaurant is good with a nice selection and a very comprehensive breakfast. Bar service can be slow but the staff are friendly. Last stay, no hot water at all in the morning - after initially denying there could be a problem 10 mins later the receptionist phoned back and agreed there was no water and they had no idea how long would take to repair and asked if I would like to move to another room to shower, which I declined! On checking out they could find no way to discount my stay but offered a discount on my next visit if I booked the room via thier HR department?? However, with such a large choice of alternative hotels nearby I have no intention of returning.

We stayed here for a private 50th Birthday party. The room was large and had everything in it you wanted. It was very clean and had a nice flatscreen tv.
The bed was very comfy
The bar area was excellent and the private function room was of very good standard.
Breakfast in the morning was help yourself and was excellent choice.

10/10 in my eyes
