“Great food, lovely pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

If you are looking to get in here for a Friday lunch I advise you to ring in advance and see if you can reserve a table. It is very popular, and for good reason. The food is beyond what you would expect from a pub. The curries are always very good. They have a good selection of Ales and Lagers, and the wine list is pretty good too.
The staff are welcoming and very helpful. I expect they are used to having a full house.
In terms of value, I would say that you get what you pay for, it's not cheap, but it's worth it.

“Lovely food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

Having driven past the Crown and Cushion for many years, I decided to book it for a business lunch to see what it is like. Fantastic! The Thai menu was coked perfectly, and loads of it. The service was really friendly. The building is a real gem, and I would think that during the summer, the location would be ideal with the cricket ground to the back. Give it a try!

“Meeting with a meal!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

Tonight, colleagues and I met, enjoyed a business meeting then relaxed over a 3 course meal. Well, the choice was just right and everyone appeared happy with their meals. I had sea bass which looked fantastic and tasted beautiful. I finished with creme brûlée wi
Hitch was perfect in consistency and taste but could have been left out of the fridge to get to room temperature before serving.
I would definitely eat here again.

“Christmas Day family lunch”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

Lovely welcoming surroundings and a warm fire , comfortable atmosphere and nice decor.
We've been here before for dinner and chose this location for our family Christmas based on the warm welcome and good food we've had.
Now not to harp on but the running order was -
We arrived and gave our name, as if we were an inconvenience , the table was pointed out to us from the door. Starters were put on the table before we took our coats off and sat down. We sorted the starters amongst ourselves and the drinks arrived having asked 3 times (15 minutes later )
The turkey dinner was overlooked, dry & tasteless. We took the unfinished meals home for the dogs. The plates were over piled and embarrassingly huge. We all looked on in disbelief.
Dessert was poor , the service non existent. We're not royalty but having forked out close to £800 you'd expect at least a smile, some attention to detail and some focus from the chef on delivering an appetising meal . Surely 4 or 5 courses over a couple of hours with a glass or two of wine would have been a better suggestion. We preordered our meals but at Christmas a little surprise between courses or some additions would be great.
We won't be back but next time I pass I will call in and speak to the manager of they are available

“A very good Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

We ate here on Sunday 20th January with family, 7 of us in total and all had something different. Food was very good, well presented and lots of it, the previous couple of days we had been staying at a hotel for a wedding and the food had been dire. By the time we got to the Crown and Cushion at 1.30pm we were starving, having not eaten much over the previous 2 days.

We had starters, I shared a baked Camembert with my husband and it was delicious, we both had a huge plate of roast beef with lovely fluffy yorkshires and lots of veg. The staff were great, polite & friendly and the service was fast, I highly recommend it and will ear here again when we are back in the area.
