Called in at short notice and even though they were really busy they found us a table. The food was reasonably priced and of excellent quality. The service was first class. We really enjoyed our time at the White Heart.

We were very disappointed with the meals we had.
The most disappointing was the meal our Grandson had which was the Duo of Lamb to say the portion of meat was small is an understatement it was actually minute, and to have the audacity to charge just short of £18 is atrocious. We will not be going back and I will not ever recommend you.

My Mother and I had reserved 2 rooms and evening meal for 1st January. On check in we were told that the restaurant was closed, due to a gas leak in the kitchen. When asked why we had not been called or contacted - they had both 'phone and email contacts - we were told management were supposed to have done so.

Came downstairs at 6pm before heading out to a local pub to find hotel in darkness, bar very clearly closed and exit doors locked. Rather odd situation to be in a locked hotel with no personnel. After @ 10 minutes found a Chef in kitchen, who was helpful and got us a taxi (which he said would be reimbursed - it wasn't). At one point a guy in a bathrobe wandered around - apparently he was the owner, who showed no interest in us or our predicament.

Went out, and on return @ 9pm found door on latch, and no personnel around. Waited @ 10 minutes but no one appeared. Went to bed very worried about security.

Next day had breakfast, asked to speak to owner or manager (neither available) and left. Received phone call from owner who offered to refund rooms (which was done) and to provide us with explanation after talking to manager - still waiting for explanation.

Very concerned about the Health and Safety aspect of locking guests in an unmanned hotel, and feel Duty of Care neglected.

Room tip: Avoid this place

For our Christmas present our daughter took us for lunch at the White Hart. We have eaten there before and found it inconsistent with regard to quality and service but Boxing Day lunch was the worst food we have had probably anywhere. We were offered a fixed price 3 course lunch for £39.95 per person The starters were lovely but the main course was awful we sent back one dish of vegetables as they were cold these were replaced but then we realised that the creamed potato was cold on 3 plates the vegetarian option should have been served with wilted rocket - we had to ask for this. We also asked to speak to the manager. Eventually when we had all given up on our food a young man came over and said he was the assistant manager on duty. The waitress and the assistant manager both offered to have our food recooked but we were so disappointed we declined. If a chef doesn't care enough when he sends out the food the first-time i don't see why it would be right the second. We ordered puddings. - 2 cheese plates with chutney and 2 raspberry and lemon Pavlova . The cheese plates were nice but no chutney and the raspberry and lemon pavlova transformed into 2 shop bought meringue nests sandwiched together with whipped cream and topped with defrosted red berries. I raised this issue with the assistant manager who inform ed me that they didn't giant pavlova left so he decided to substitute it without thinking to ask if this was acceptable which it wasn't. The cost of our lunch was reduced by way of recompense but the money wasn't the issue. We went out for a Christmas treat and this fell well short.
