We booked a night here as we planed a two day trip to drayton manor, the location was fantastic.
Beds were comfortable and the room had everything we needed for our overnight stay.
My only complaint being that the air conditioning unit leaked water and woke us up at 11pm, we would have complained but having 2 young kids asleep in bed we didn't fancy the hassle of moving rooms etc. by the next morning the floor was saturated and we couldn't walk near it, it also made the carpet smell very fusty and not very pleasant, glad we was leaving that day.
We told reception staff who didn't seem that bothered and told us they would inform maintainence. Breakfast was ok nothing special but then again it was free so what do you expect, kids enjoyed having the variety as there was lots to choose from.

We had never been to Tamworth before but we chose this hotel to visit a music festival that was at the old Castle grounds of Tamworth Castle. So imagine our delight when we found that the music festival was just across the road (via a footbridge) and that we could see the castle grounds and a blue lake from our bedroom window when we arrived.

When we got to Tamworth, we drove into the secure public car park that is adjacent to the Holiday Inn Express and had a quick walk around the lake before checking in. We looked in on the Snowdome - this is an astonishing facility - allowing folk to ski/snowboard on real snow inside a huge building. There is also a large pool and a leisure centre attached and also a Starbucks and a bar.

When we checked in, the reception was clean and welcoming. The hotel seems spacious. The lifts to the floors were reliable and quick. Our room was on the 4th floor. It was very large and clean. With a double bed (very low - but comfy) and another settee that could be used for one more person. The shower room was sparkling clean. The TV screen was large and bright. The temperature was just right. There was no noise nuisance either from the busy ‘A’ road outside, or the other rooms/guests. (Or the music festival!)

The ‘free’ breakfast was not so good. There are 3 ‘hot items’ sausage, bacon and scrambled egg available - in a cramped area. We don’t eat hot food - we prefer a lighter breakfast - so we had yoghurt and some cereal. The bread product available was toast - so we didn’t have that. The fruit juice was diluted. And the less said about the powdery coffee the better.

But all-in-all this was a good clean hotel with a nice large room and was good for the price. The place was packed with families with young well-behaved children. Which is very encouraging.

If this is your first stay in Tamworth, we encourage you to take a stroll across the lovely park and to the castle. Once you have crossed over the windy footbridge outside the hotel, you can stroll leisurely into Tamworth town centre through the very nice Castle Grounds. You won’t be disappointed.

Don’t be tempted to use the Wimpy bar opposite though. That was abysmal.

The reception staff validated our car park ticket as we left. We were charged just £1 for the stay - the usual price is £5 for overnight.

We will be coming back!

We are just back from a 3 day stay. We arrived early Saturday morning (10am), I had previously emailed management asking if possible could we please check in early, I had been told that this may be a problem as fully booked up on the Friday however after a quick search on arrival we were able to check in, this was just what we needed after a long journey with a cranky/tired 4 year old. The rooms are spacious, modern, clean and bright with a perfect power shower. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely, fresh croissants, rolls, cereals, toast, yogurts, fresh fruit etc. Cooked breakfast consists of sausage, scrambled egg or beans. All plentiful and quickly replenished. Only one thing missing – free WiFi. This was badly missed and maybe something the hotel could provide in time. Thomasland is about 5 miles away, a short taxi ride. It’s a perfect base for Thomasland which is a must for any Thomas fanatic, its utterly magical. Well worth a visit. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Stayed two nights with hubby and toddler. The room had everything we needed and beds were comfortable. Breakfast was as expected although avoid the eggs as they're powdered egg not fresh!! The hotel also does not do an evening meal over the weekend but they had plenty of take away menus and a phone for you to use, and we were able to sit in reception to eat. The location is fantastic for the town centre if you want to eat out and its a lovely walk through gardens past the castle which only took 10 minutes. Will be staying there next time we visit Tamworth

My wife and I stayed here with our 2 young kids (2yr and 5yr) for a visit to Thomasland and found it to be excellent. Atmosphere very very relaxed, check in was quick and easy, which is what you need when you have 2 small children. Room was fine, a little cramped for 4 but adequate. Spotlessly clean and excellent bathroom and shower. Breakfast was basic but very good and lets face it you wouldn't even have that selection at home. You could still have as many sausages and toast as you could eat.
Staff were helpful and pleasant. They even helped us order takeaway pizza on the Sat night (as they don't serve food on weekends, which I thought was strange) got us plates and cutlery and we sat in the bar watching TV.

For the price for a family of 4...UNBEATABLE!!

Brilliant location: Swimming pool, with slides and inflatables, and snowboarding right next door, 5 mins drive to Drayton manor and Thomasland, kids indoor play area and bowling across the road, Beefeater inn 200yds down the road.

Downsides, coffee at breakfast not great and paying £1 every time to get out of the car park was a pain (reward clubs members don't get it free any longer)
