Couldn't use the Castle itself but we could still enjoy the flowers and the castle arch.....came back in the Spring and it all looked lovely and a tour of the castle is a must....Parking right near the Castle a little limited but a short walk away is lots of parking and the shops are close by....Nice cheap and cheerful day out

I decided to visit Tamworth Castle after purchasing a voucher for two adults on Groupon. We visited on a Sunday and parked in the Jolly Sailor car park, which was very reasonable £1 up to 3 hours, and £1.50 all day, free on a Sunday. We walked over the bridge through the Castle Pleasure Grounds Park, towards the castle.

Normal entry to the castle is £7 per adult, but we used our voucher, once inside the castle it was a self-led tour starting in the armoury. In here there were helmets, shields, armour for children to dress up in along with descriptions of medieval weaponry. From here you could freely wander around the rooms within the castle, these included banqueting rooms, bedrooms, servants’ quarters etc. All rooms had something to read, and most had things children could pick up and touch, making the experience interactive. In addition to this you could go on the castle’s roof and battlements.

The castle is quite small, but I was surprised by the number of rooms to go in, please note if you’re looking for a lot of information about the history of the castle you might be disappointed, also those with mobility problems and very young children might find it difficult, as there are stairways to go up. On the whole it was an enjoyable experience in a nice castle with well maintained displays; we probably stayed about two hours in total

This is not what I was expecting at all. I was a little disappointed. There are lots of interactive and interesting things for the kids to do and you can dress up in armour and different costumes and try on lots of different wigs, more aimed at the kids than at adults.
The rooms were interesting but there was not too much information on the history of the place or the objects that were in each room. It felt like they had just gathered lots of old items and made a display, not really anything to do with the castle or the people that had lived there. We did find some information cards but again nothing really that related to the castle or its history just facts about the objects displayed.
In one room, it was all about the History of Tamworth which was interesting but not much reference to the main attraction, the castle!! The guild was next to useless all he did was sit and read his book!
I did enjoy looking around but felt more could have been said about the architecture,
different pieces of furniture and the relevance to the Castle, the people who had lived/stayed there, how they fitted into society, how/when the castle was renovated, when was it was passed to the different owners and who they were and why and how the castle was relevant to the surrounding area and the people that lived there when it was built. Not really one I would recommend if you want a good castle experience.
The park outside was nice!!
