When coming to the hotel, it seemed nice. The rooms were nice but a few things were wrong, air con did not work and it was the hottest weekend to arrive, the towel rail fell off and the curtain pole fell off too, saying that the room was still nice and the beds were comfortable.

We recently stayed here as we were visiting family in the area. We found the room we stayed in (7) to be modern with flat screen TV & air conditioning. A must with the weather we have recently had. The room was of adequate size and so was the bathroom. I have to mention that the towels are enormous! Both my husband and I are not "racing snakes" so usually find it difficulty with the towels in most hotels but not here so "Thank you" for that. Yes the steps are steep up to the rooms but your only going to walking up them a couple of times if you are staying overnight so hey hum! We arrived for breakfast with 3 minutes to spare(it finishes at 9.30) but this was not a problem. The staff were quite happy to take our order for a full english and scrambled egg on toast with a slice of bacon(delicious) with extra toast and tea. Whilst having breakfast we found out a bit more about the hotel and what they have planned for the very near future. Dominos leash it about to run out and they are planning to move the restaurant to where they are and keep the present restaurant as their reception as this is where you check in at present. I can definitely say that when we visit family there again we will be staying at The Peel. Thank you guys for a very pleasant stay.

This review is regarding the restaurant only. We were there for a dinner.
On arrival it was a bit confusing as to where to go in,On entering we found that the party table nearly filled the room and felt we were imposing on the other diners, who may have wanted a quiet meal. The room is also the bar and reception. This caused some problems later when people wanted to checkin with their cases making it difficult for service.
We had preordered the meals and the starters were fine, however many of the party had ordered the steak, this came with ample and tasty veggies and they were hot and well cooked. However the steaks were covered with a very strong peppery sauce. The vast majority of the party left some or all of this steak. Not sure the chef had tasted it before smothering the good meat with it? The staff picked this up and some enjoyed a plain steak which tasted very nice indeed. Normally the sauce for the steak is served in a small gravy boat, this would have alleviated the problem. The staff were fine and tried hard to make it a smooth evening for all the diners. I understand that this capacity difficulty may change when the hotel is able to retake possession of the whole of the building and this will be a lot better. Personally I think there was not enough space and so the ambiance suffered, especially as it was Bar/Reception./Restaurant all in the same room. As an aside another table had ordered tagliatelle and queried the colour as it was a dark colour , maybe there was something missing from the dairy?

Dear Reviewer

Thank you very much for bringing your party to the restaurant and for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

You are right in pointing out that we currently have only one space which serves as restaurant and reception. Unfortunately sometimes this can lead to some congestion if guests are booking in after 7pm, as the room is not very large and the restaurant normally rather busy in the evenings. I am sorry you felt this negatively impacted on your experience.

We are pleased to tell you that things are changing soon though, and we are opening a new larger restaurant at the front of the building with a separate reception area within the next twelve months.

The choice of steak ordered is described as ‘Sirloin steak served with a four peppercorn sauce’ and our style of cooking means that the steak is served with the sauce already on. I am sorry to hear that many of your party would have preferred their steaks plain or with the sauce separate. Had we known, we would have done this for you.

I am looking into how we can improve our menu descriptions to make it more clear to our guests what to expect. Our team of chefs are very versatile and we pride ourselves in being able to provide whatever our customers would like. I am pleased to hear that new steaks were provided to you on request at no extra charge and hope that there was as little interruption to the flow of your meal as possible.

As for the Tagliatelle being eaten on an adjacent table, the guest in question has eaten with us before and the dish they ordered has recently changed, so was not quite as they expected in presentation. I am assured they enjoyed it very much though.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, and for choosing us for your party’s meal. I hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Christopher’s restaurant again in the future.

Yours sincerely

Christopher J Gill

I've stayed here a number of times whilst in Tamworth on business and it is ideal for a night's stay. The rooms are clean though not the largest but adequate and the beds are comfortable, which is often the most important feature of any hotel room.

The restaurant is very small when compared to most hotels but the breakfast is good with the usual cereal and full english etc though I like that they will also do a bacon roll if you can't face the full plate first thing.

It is central in Tamworth with a small car park but if the hotel is full this can get very crowded if you are a later arrival in the evening. It is about a ten minute walk from the rail station and is certainly the best option if you are arriving by public transport.

Overall, this is a good 3.5 out of 5, clean, convenient and good value.

Met friends for a weekend and both of us stayed at The Peel, fantastic weekend and highly recommend The Peel.
If you like Indian food 2 minutes away is The Champagne Fusion which is fantastic and reasonably priced.
Pubs in the town on a Saturday night are really geared for the young with loud music but staying at The Peel this will not effect your stay.
For a wonderful half day out go to The National Memorial Arboretum you will not regret it.
Thanks for a lovely stay Chris & Pauline , breakfast was fantastic.

Stayed one night whilst visiting National Arboretum, the room, food and hospitality were first class. Close to town centre yet far enough not to be disturbed. Car park is secured at night. For £70 per night BB unbelievable value.

This is an interesting hotel - right on the edge of the city centre and adjacent to pubs and restaurants. Large steel gates enclose the entrance at night, so there is a feeling of security. I asked for a room with easy access to the car park so I could store away a fair amount of luggage and my wish was granted. There are four upstairs rooms accessed by an outside staircase right on the car park. They are a bit steep, but getting awkward luggage to your room is a doddle. The rooms are large, clean and airy and you can see your car from the window. Being adjacent to so many food places means I didn't have dinner, but breakfast is excellent - all freshly cooked, with unlimited coffee. Staff are friendly and helpful, - would recommend it and definitely stay there again

Room Tip: If you have a lot of luggage, you can ask for one of the outside rooms, but security is excellent an...
