I found The Plough via a google search for somewhere close to Drayton Manor - so we could do a stopover on our way back from Cornwall. It is ideally placed for Drayton Manor, HOWEVER, book somewhere further away if you'd prefer to avoid EVERYTHING that has been previously mentioned.

I cannot say the place was dirty, as it was presented in a clean manner - we stayed in rooms 2 and 3 - however, it was rather shabby and room 3 still smells like the local chippy, on a bad day!

We were made to pay for our room on arrival, which rang alarm bells - rightly so. The breakfast isn't worth the money and we eventually got everything we ordered which was far worse than the meal we'd enjoyed the previous evening, which was more than pleasant.

I would avoid this 'hotel' too at all costs unless you're planning on a stag/hen night in the cocktail bar and need somewhere to rest your drunken head.

Room Tip: Book somewhere else......

Lets start with the good...was close to the reason why we went to Tamworth, Drayton Manor. The staff in the pub were friendly.
Now the bad...the hotel is near the bar, so if you want a quiet night, you're not going to get one. The room had big holes in the wall like they'd been a fight there at some point(after the first night they'd added some very poor pictures to cover up the biggest hole). The toilet didn't flush very well, and the shower wasn't warm unless you turn the power to dribbling.

Check in is at the bar which was quite full and awkward to get into when laden with cases! Room 3 noisy so we were moved without fuss to room 8. Rooms small, as are the tv's (my computer screen is bigger) and perched high up on the wall. Venetian blinds dusty,no bed side lamps or glasses in the bathroom.Although less noisy than the 1st room the noise heard from this room constantly bangin doors till 3 in the morning and what sounded like furniture removals. Not good when you have been travellling all day and a busy day ahead! Breakfast at 9 rooms vacated at 10!! Staff helpful and pleasant.Breakfast OK,tea watery actually thought there ws no tea bag in to start with.Sorry guys but there is no way I would stay here again.Oh and no one around to collect the key on departure!!

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel!!

This hotel is shocking.
We booked a family 3 bed family room for a one night stay after visiting Drayton Manor Theme Park.
The room was dirty, thick with dust and filthy valence on the beds. There were used dirty tissues under the bed. The mattress didn't fit the beds. I tried to plug in a bed side lamp only find that the socket began to reseed into the wall so quickly gave up.
My wife and I quickly decided that we wouldn't be stopping the night. Our young daughter was very upset as she was looking forward to a night away. So we decided to stop and have a meal then hop in the car pretending to nip out for a drive whilst our daughter would fall asleep and then head home. Mistake number 2. Ordered a childs curry and two adult mild curries. All 3 curries were the same and too hot for even my wife or I to eat. This was the last straw. We asked for a refund for the food and the room.
The staff were polite and refunded for the food and room with out hesitation or question.

The photos of this place are a lot different to how it is in real life. They make it look quaint, stylish and somewhere you'd actually like to stay. The only good thing it has going for it is its close proximity to the motorway.

Upon arrival we had to wait at the bar to check in - which is very strange indeed and is fine unless you are carrying large bags or suitcases. Our debit card was charged before we'd even set foot in the room, which is very out of the ordinary.

You are shown to your room by one of the barmaids and handed the key. Upon entering the room we started to shiver as the room was actually colder than it was outside. The radiator was switched off so the only thing available to heat the room was a small air conditioning unit.

There was a strong smell of greasy cooking coming from downstairs, which explained why the window had been left open in the room. When we switched the air conditioning unit on, it simply blew the smell around the room instead of heating it - even when it was turned up to 30 degrees.

The bed had been purchased from the children's department at IKEA, as were the pillows and the duvet. The pillows were so thin that even if there were ten of them on the bed - they still wouldn't be the same thickness as a standard pillow. The duvet was the same thickness as a small rolled up newspaper and gave the same warmth as one.

The TV was perched high up on the wall - and was difficult to watch as we had forgotten our telescope and binoculars. We realised why it was this high when we opened the bathroom door which just missed the bracket which was holding the TV up.

The shower door didn't open wide enough for a small child to get in or out and contained left over toiletries from the previous occupants which highlighted the fact that the shower probably hadn't been cleaned out either. The taps were filthy, as was the sink so we avoided using it at all costs. The toilet didn't flush properly - and made a strange compressing sound when used.

The radiator was covered in what looked like faeces and looked like it hadn't been cleaned either. We edged past it and went down to get some food as we had already driven over three hours.

We ordered blackened salmon (which was ordered with vegetables) and gammon with egg. When the food arrived, the salmon had been fried to within an inch of its life and the vegetables were minimal and were mixed with far too much salad which was very greasy indeed. The gammon was sliding around the plate as there was lots of grease on the plate. The chips were burnt on the outside and not cooked properly on the inside. We ate what we could as were very hungry.

We made our way back to the room feeling very bloated with all the grease that we had just consumed which we tried hard to wash down with the cheap tasting wine and lager.

We fell asleep at around 11pm to the sound of the toilet which was constantly flushing all by itself. This noise continued until 3am so consequently we didn't get a lot of sleep at all.

We went down for breakfast and through the door that we were told to use the night before which was conveniently locked when we tried to open it. As we walked past the kitchen window we heard a member of staff muttering 'them in number 3 are finally up'.

We were greeted in the bar area by a very grumpy staff member who showed us to our table which was right near the door. We were asked if we wanted tea or coffee. I asked for orange juice which was obviously a lot of trouble as I was huffed at.

We were offered toast which arrived before the rest of the food so we started to eat rather than let it go cold with the draught that was blowing through the open door. The orange juice and the coffee arrived (without milk). By the time the food and another staff member arrived, the coffee was cold and so were we.

While we were waiting for our food to arrive, several of the staff entertained us with a game of "slam the doors and shout at one another" - a game we'd never seen before and are still not sure we'd like to see again either.

The grill obviously wasn't working - as the overcooked bacon, egg and sausages were swimming for dear life in the pool of grease that they had been drowned in.

The sausages were black on the outside but still raw on the inside. The bacon and egg tasted like they had been cooked in sugar or a pan that had been used to make dessert the night before. We couldn't tell which.

We took one bite of the sausages and left the rest so as to avoid any potential food poisoning. As we were trying to eat the terrible food, a local rep arrived to sort out deliveries for the week and was greeted by two of the barmaids with an argument which went on for around 25 minutes. We didn't stay to see who won, so finished up, made our excuses and left.

We eventually realised why our card had been charged before we'd even stayed. It's probably because people who have stayed here before have left without paying. It's really not hard to see why.

All in all one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed at. This place really needs to decide between being a local pub for local people or a poor excuse for a bed and breakfast. I know which one we'd choose and it wouldn't be the first one.

The room was absolutely spotless and had been redecorated recently so was very welcoming as was Ryan who showed us to our room. Breakfast however was very disappointing - no cereal, no fruit juice, did not get asked what we wanted, no pot of tea - a teabag and some hot water, of which we had to ask for more as there was not enough to go around. The teabag took some stirring to get colour and no chance of a second cup. No pot of coffee, granules served in a dish. One slice of toast per person so if you wanted toast with your cooked breakfast there was none left to go with the jam/marmalade. No one came back to ask if you wanted any more. Although we'd booked as a foursome and the table was set for four, there was a delay as the chef only cooked for two (we were the only people in at the time). We were not asked what we wanted on the cooked breakfast, you were just presented with a plate "take it or leave it" type of thing, I pity any vegetarians or anyone with dietry requirements, or those who'd like a choice.

Room Tip: room 8 is furthest from the road, so perhaps a little quieter

Visited the restaurant with the family, was met with comments that kids are not allowed in the restaurant (Even though it was booked in advance and there was another family eating in there already). Family had to sit on high bar stools at the tapas table with no high chairs available for the kids (Resulting in one of the kids falling off and banging his head on the table).
One of our group had to leave after 45 minutes of arriving and was hoping to have his main meal by then, but we hadn't even been served our starters before he left.
On menu, said with salad or seasonal vegetables, but think they were too busy to ask which I wanted, so they put half of each onto my plate.

However the staff who were on duty tried so hard to make our visit acceptable and should be commended on their efforts.
