We booked for the weekend of the 6/7/13 as part of a wowcher deal, being two adults and a four year old child. The reception gentleman was friendly and helpful when we arrived answering all our questions about parking and monkey forrest. The hotel was was clean and the room very large and accomodating. We found the resturants surrounding the hotel very accomodating for a four year old on a busy saturday night. The rooms were well venillated in the heat with a fan being swithced on prior to our arrival to cool the room down. Previous comments stated on the cleanliness of the hotel but we found it to be clean and tidy.

There was slight noise from the pub next door, which was to be expected on a hot sumers night in the middle of the town centre, but nothing that disturbed us from a very comfortable sleep.
Breakfast the next day was especially nice as there was a wide variaty of choice and cooked fresh from our order. I would definitly recomend spending the night here and would definitly return.

Stayed over for one night as a family and was given one of the old bow fronted rooms on the front of the building. Cannot say for other rooms but this was very spacious and well decorated, with a sense of history. Staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was good, although could have had a veggy option for the cooked breakfast. The room was a little hot, and we could not turn the radiator off in the bathroom. It was a warm summers night, so we opened the sash window to let some air in. Unfortunately this also let in the street noise, so I entertained myself by joining in with other peoples conversations.

In the evening we ate at the pub on the canal at the back of the hotel which had a lovely setting and the food was pleasant enough.

We usually go for 'character' hotels as they are a lot more fun than your standard premier inn. You do have to expect squeaky floorboards, ancient windows and faded grandeur but if you don't like that sort of thing there is always travellodge.

It was surprising to see that there were hardly any people in the Crown Hotel dining room for lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon. However, we were not disappointed and would highly recommend it. The food was outstanding (we had deep fried whitebait and melon as a starter, followed by chicken and mushroom pie and pork steak, both served with vegetables, mashed potatoes and chips at no extra cost) and, at £8.50 for two courses, exceptionally good value. The setting was extremely pleasant in this lovely building and the music of the 1920s really tasteful. A very enjoyable experience!

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights, apart from 1 male the reception staff were miserable & rude. When I arrived at the hotel I passed what turned out to be the receptionist outside smoking, it was obvious I was a guest as had luggage with me, however I was stood waiting at the desk for ages until she turned up, clearly she took her time & finished her cigarette before bothering to attend to me! Very dry lady, made no attempt to welcome me or be polite. The room was clean but absolutely boiling hot which was awful during the night. The windows were not secure in the bathroom or the bedroom. The breakfast staff were lovely, cannot fault them & the breakfast was cooked well & tasted nice. I feel that for the rate I paid I would have expected more professionalism. What a same that as soon as I arrived I was disappointed. As a frequent visitor to the town I will not stay again or recommend. Cannot stand bad customer service.

Stayed here as part of a wowcher deal. Yes, the room could have been nicer but the staff have all been so friendly and the restaurant food is unbelievable for the price. 3 courses for £12.50 and it was as good as meals costing 3 times as much. Would highly recommend based on the staff, vibe and amazing restaurant

We got this as a deal from Wowcher so considering we didn't pay much we can't really complain. This hotel is obviously struggling and in need of a refurb, as they're advertising this offer you would think they would focus on the little things that don't cost. Windows were filthy, bedroom mirror needed a clean, bed valance was stained, telephone dirty, tea cups and stand dirty.
Had to put up with a very loud extractor fan going off all through thenight every ten minutes.
Staff constantly smoking outside guest entrances - perhaps a discreet private area could be allocated as not a good advert!
The breakfast was ok but think we got there at the right time as the anemic cheap sausages came out after.
For what we paid I can't really grumble but if they're trying to drum up new business maybe use this review to improve.

We stayed for one night 10th june. Due to age of hotel you expect some faults but there are far too many to list. Many other reviews cover most issues . Very outdated and needs alot of tlc. The hotel has so much to offer if it was given the chance. Can not fault the staff or the food if it was not for them the review would of been terrible.
