Have eaten in the Crown of India for about 15 years. It has changed hands over those years and we have had the odd not quite up to scratch curry. What you need to remember is that 'not quite up to scratch' here is the norm for other curry houses. Over the last year the currys have been really superb which is matched by the customer service. The owners daughters help out at week ends and they are both charming and helpful. Madras is to die for.

Stayed in Stone for a weekend get away and this restaurant was across the square from where we stayed (The Crown Hotel), went on our second night as stated before staff friendly decor dated, but its the food that matters and that couldn't be faulted Chicken Chili Balti best to date, wife loved her sizzling dish, never felt rushed but avoid a seat near the door as it gets busy with customers collecting takeaways and cold end up being a cold spot when the weather isn't warm.

Having lived in Stone for five years this was my first visit. It was like walking back in time when I saw the decor. The greeting from the staff was very welcoming and seemed genuine.
I wasn't disappointed at all with the food. I had a Balti, which was one of the best I have had for a while. It was also very reasonably priced.
Will be going back soon.

We went as a party of 4 , we are all food crtic'sand I bee a chef for many years alway around the world, and heard about this resturant in stone, well dont waste your money as alot of food is microwaved, for starters we had kebabs they where microwaved, a starterr we also had was tika kebab was as dry as anything like left overs,no char grill falavor in site? but before that we asked for a bottle of rose wine it tasted like it been waterd down very bad wine, we then asked f they could do us a samba they said no ? thats strange where lentils is main ingrence of any india diet, we had a special birany dish which just put together from left overs no taste, my sister ased for a jalfrasie, pure chillies again no spice at all, so avoid the resturant at all costs, you better having a takeaway from morrisons cheaper and tastes better.

If you have an image of a traditional India restaurant this is it! No fancy modern decor trying to be something swish.
But they don't need it, the food is lovely, really nice and tasty, fab in fact!
Always love coming here for food, whatever has been ordered has been tasty, even when the restaurant is busy (and it can get very busy) the food quality is still superb!
Staff are friendly and efficient and very helpful, a female friend even got to flirt with the waiter!
Overall I could not recommend a better Indian restaurant in the area.
