“Fantastic”

I recently visited the Olives and I must say the food was fantastic. Affy made us feel really welcome and his staff are great.

Overall i'd recommend The Olives to everyone.

“Fabulous place, excellent service, overall WOW!!”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

This will be the 5th time we have visited the restaurant as we do so on special occasions as a treat As the place Is absolutely gorgeous. Ran by a lovely Italian family who couldn't provide a warmer welcome if they tried. The place is immaculately clean, spacious and decorated beautifully.
Whilst we browsed the menu we were entertained by a young female singer who sang a brill mixture of songs but not too overpowering that you couldn't hold a conversation.
The food as always was perfect and the host suggested things that he thought we would enjoy and was totally right

Will return again and would recommend anyone to go also

“Need to visit again”
Reviewed May 30, 2013 via mobile

Visited with my wife for our wedding anniversary. Arrived on the night and discovered it was a tarot reading night. The menu was limited and was £5 each more than advertised outside. (if you wanted a tarot reading that was an additional £7.50). We saw the main menu outside a few days earlier, were quite impressed and thats why we booked. We will visit again but probably not on the last Wednesday of the month. Quality of food was very good.

“Lovely service but over-priced canteen food”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Such a friendly welcome, just massively let down by the food.

For a start, the starters were tiny: The tomato and mozzarella was two extremely thin slices of standard tomato, with what tasted like standard (not buffalo) mozzarella, and instead of the fresh pesto, it was surrounded by a balsamic glaze with a hint of basil. The oil was substandard. The mushroom on toast was awful, with only about 4 pieces of tiny standard mushrooms, in a sickly sauce.

The mains were ok, but dull in flavour, but at least reasonable sizes considering the starters. The mousaka was as per the description below lacking in any aubergine and the cheese was over-powering and of the wrong sort: coloured cheddar.

Tiramisu was ok, but presentation and size was lacking.

Real pity because of the friendly welcome but the food was simply canteen/cheap pub standard at best, and the prices inflated.

The house wine that we ordered was from Aldi, it costs under £4 there, so £13 is a fair mark up.

Thanks, but we won't be back.

“A little underwhelmed!”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

We had not been to The Olives for a long time but having seen all the reviews decided to visit. The service and welcome from Affy is outstanding, he makes a great fuss of you and is very enthusiastic. Our starters were okay but our main courses were disappointing. The mousaka was very greasy, I could not taste the lamb and only tasted a tiny bit of aubergine, these two being for me what mousaka is all about, along with a light and fluffy hard Italian or Greek cheese taste, not the heavy, fatty orangy coloured topping that we received.
So overall we were a little underwhelmed that the food was not up to the welcome, and I have to say attractive interior.
Perhaps our tastes are different as many people love their food.
