“A great welcome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2011

The Lakeside Tavern saved our evening. We were on the Trent and Mersey and had moored by The Plume of Feathers at bridge 103, planning to dine there. Despite numerous advertising signs from them saying food all day everyday we found there was non. So................back to the canal guide and we found The Lakeside Tavern. We called them to ask if they were doing food, they were. We walked the half mile or so along a dark towpath and reached the Lakeside tavern where we received a lovely warm, friendly welcome. The pub was comfortable with a huge log fire, the beer good and the food excellent. The landlord and land lady were exceptionally friendly, they exchanged light hearted banter with us and when they discovered that we had walked to their pub, and that the couple accompanying us had walked even further along the tow path, insisted that we be given a lift back to the boats. What hospitality? We shall certainly be going back there and have already recommended them to a group taking a canal boat out of Great Heyward as we were taking our boat back.

“Excellent food Family Pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2011

While on a canal holiday in Staffordshire we found this great pub by acident. The landlady Tracy is an excellent host and she cooks all the food herself and it is very fresh so you have to wait a bit, but you are told this when you order so you don't mind. It is a child friendly pub, but for me the bonus was she allows well behaved dogs so I was able to eat with my friends for a change. So if you are on a canal holiday or live in Meaford you should try this place out. If you are on the Trent& Mersey Canal tie up near bridge 102 follow the foot path to the road turn left and you should find this great Pub, You are in for a treat.
