“Poor service”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

Ordered a sandwich and went to sit outside to wait for it, was told there was only one outside area to sit, however it was full up so we went to the other area.
Were made to feel unwelcome by sitting in the other area, with staff saying when there's space well move you over.
This was en repeated to us by the waitress even though we had already explained the only reason we had moved was because there was no space.
Sandwich came - cost £5 for a very stale piece of bread and a few salad leaves. Would not recommend. Which is a real shame as the setting is lovely. Fries were nice.

“Second time back was just as special as the first!!!”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

Some places seem to be a one trick pony. Not sure if its the company, the occasion preceding or after the meal but some places upon a second visit don't quite cut the mustard. Aston Marina is most definitely the exception the rule.

We had booked in for another meal in the early evening and as per our first visit the staff were attentive and the atmosphere was really relaxed. I guess its hard not to be relaxed when the place is set in such beautiful surroundings.

I had the ribs served with corn on the cob and coleslaw, my partner had the Lamb Tagine. The food was beautifully presented and possible one of the best things I have tasted in a long time. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and my partner and I felt like we couldn't have been looked after any better. In fact it was so good we went back for breakfast in the morning before we headed back home.

Breakfast consisted of Eggs Benedict and a full English for my partner and I respectively. Breakfast was a casual affair and it was lovely to seem people going about their business on a Sunday morning, soaking up the atmosphere of canal life.

This place will definitely be on our list of places to visit for a long time. Looking forward already to out next visit.

“Still good”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

We were staying in the marina and had both lunch and dinner in the bistro, having had dinner once before. Still the same standard. Good food in an informal setting. Great to order fries at lunch and get the real hand-cut thing rather than frozen. Young, friendly crowd.

“Lovely Meal”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

We visited here on Saturday evening with some friends who live nearby. We live in Lancashire. The setting is lovely and the restaurant although small was fantastic. The food was superb and well presented. My husband had steak and said it was one the nicest rumps he had had. I had a lamb burger and it was very delicious. The staff and service was excellent and if we lived closer we would visit regularly! High recommend.

“Good Food But Disappointing Overall”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

we decided to give the Marina Bistro a try for dinner having enjoyed a really nice brunch about 12 months ago.
We agree with other reviews that the menu is somewhat limited but the quality or choice of food was not the main issue for us, it was the little things that tend to make a difference that were lacking
We had booked last minute for 6.15pm as this was the latest they could do. When we arrived we were shown to a table in the centre of a fairly quiet restaurant and asked if we could sit at one of the window seats to be told that it wasn't possible as they were pre-booked. I said that we had pre-booked so what was the difference but to no avail
We ordered a bottle of the cava (good value at £17.95) which arrived in an ice bucket of water. On pouring it was luke warm - plainly it hadnt been in a fridge & we had to ask for the water to be emptied & ice put in the bucket to cool the wine sufficiently
My wife had the chicken & chorizo risotto as they couldn't do the tagine with a chicken breast instead of a lamb cutlet. I asked the waitress if the tagine was good but she didn't know as she hadn't tried it - I really don't get places charging between £14-£20+ for a main course not having the waiters/waitresses trying the meals. Both main course were very nice and the desserts were good although the '6 hour rum poached pineapple' needed to be eaten with a knife & fork as it was too hard to eat with a spoon, so not sure about the 6 hours.
The room is very bare (walls, ceiling & stone floor) which makes it VERY noisy once it fills up as there is nothing to deaden the sound and every conversation could be heard in the small space
For £55 for two it was 'nice' - the little things mentioned above that make or break an experience let down the good food being served and based on that we probably wouldn't return (at least for dinner)
