visited 8/11/12 for my wife's birthday . went at lunchtime and was pleasantly surprised to find that the full evening menu is offered at lunch, as well as some lighter lunch options via a specials board.
we both had 3 courses and all the food was superb, perfectly cooked and presented . ( i had the haddock smokies, the duck, and the blackberry creme brulee and they were all fantastic )
the wine list is excellent and reasonably priced.
expect to pay circa £50 for 2 people ( 3 courses each, glass of wine/ soft drinks ) but if you are looking for somewhere that isn't standard pub chain fare for a special occasion ( or even if you can afford it all the time !! ) then this is the place for you
excellent food, spotlessly clean, very friendly and attentive owner and staff
can only give 5 stars because thats the highest rating, but deserves 6
also noted they have printed their pre-xmas december menu which looks really good value, we will be back to sample it, this time in a taxi to enjoy the wine offerings

My husband and I popped in here on a sunday early lunch time. We didn't want a roast but were a little hungrey. We were offered a bagette of our choice (even though they weren't on the lunch time menu) and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Bagette...lovely, very fresh, FULL to the brim and served with a very crisp salad. Also very cheap. We've been back since and enjoyed their full hospitality and filling sunday lunch. A must go!

After reading the review from Sunny1Staffordshire I feel I must report our experience on our first visit to Ye Olde Dun Cow. My wife and I visited on the same evening as Sunny1Staffordshire and we were sitting at the bar when he complained to the staff about his bill. As far as we could tell the staff made a geniune error, as humans occasionally do, and mistakenly put another tables main courses on his bill. The bills are itemised so it is not difficult to spot any slip-ups. When the error was pointed out both members of staff behind the bar were most apologetic and obviously rectified the problem immediately. What more could you ask for? The customer seemed happy with the food and service but seemed to want something for nothing simply because they had made a mistake and in our opinion was being very unreasonable.

Anyway on to our experience. The food at Ye Olde Dun Cow was excellent. The menu was extensive with many imaginative dishes and our meals were well cooked and delicious. The chef obviously takes great pride in his work. The staff were very friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed it that much we will be returning very soon.

Please do not let one poor review put you off going there as it is a lovely place to visit.

We were only introduced to this pub relatively recently and we have been twice for family lunch parties of 15/16 and on both occasions on Sunday for lunch. In spite of the size of our party and the fact that Sunday is obviously a busy day we found the service and the food to be very good on both occasions.
There are many good pubs for food in the Midlands but the Dun Cow is a cut above the rest and well worth the trip. We will certainly be back.
