“Perfect Birthday Treat”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

I booked one night at this hotel on a deal through TravelZoo which included afternoon tea, a 3 course meal in the Brasserie and breakfast, as a treat for my husband's birthday. On arrival I found the exterior a little unprepossessing but went through to a bright and airy reception to ask if I could pay for a room upgrade but was told I had already been allocated one of their best rooms - I have to say I wasn't disappointed. The room was ideal with a 4 poster bed which was easily large enough to accommodate my husbands 6 foot 5 frame and a huge, modern bathroom with jacuzzi bath and spacious separate shower. There were lovely touches such as ample tea, coffee and hot chocolate, and candles and a fresh flower on the end of the bath. The room was immaculate.

Our afternoon tea we took in the bar in front of the cozy log burner with warm scones almost as big as the plates they were served on. The barman/chef was friendly and pleasant and only too happy to recommend a good place to park in nearby Leek to enjoy an afternoon stroll.

After we returned we went for dinner and were very impressed with both the quality and quantity of the food and enjoyed the novelty of the "open" kitchen giving visual access to the kitchen and the chefs at work. Our waitress was a delight and indeed we found all of the staff very pleasant, a theme which continued at the very enjoyable breakfast the following morning.

We have stayed at many hotels, Inns and B & Bs over the years but for quality and value (thank you TravelZoo) I think The 3 Horseshoes would be hard to beat.

Room Tip: We had room 110 with cracking views of the countryside and the Roaches.

The hotel is modern and clean, our executive suite with a power shower was superb, the staff were extremely friendly and professional and the food was excellent. We had tea and huge scones with clotted cream and jam, followed in the evening by a fabulous meal in the brasserie, the buffet style breakfast had a great selection. we thoroughly enjoyed Our stay at the Three Horseshoes and called back to sample their Sunday Carvery, this too was extremely tasty and great value for money.

My wife and I braved the snow and booked in a day earlier than planned for our son's wedding. Our first delight was the very comfortable and spacious room. The second was a great meal in the brasserie - never seen such deserts and good value too! The breakfast in the morning was as good as it gets. The hotel was being used for the large wedding reception and the decorations , food and service were excellent. The staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. A tribute to the owners who obviously care.

We were there for my son's wedding, on that day of blizzards across all England - remember? Friday 18th, through to the Sunday. One black marklet only: the receptionist had no empathy for two OAPs who's struggled for 5 hours to get there and didn't want a full-on barrage of facts such as mealtimes, just a welcome and a realisation we could do with some kind assistance. This immediately came in the form of (St) Michael, who was ever present, anticipating our needs and helping us all through. The place is extensively extended, so is a labyrinth of spaces and corridors and stairs. Intriguing! Our room was so cute: spick and span, thought through and very tasteful. Bar was so welcome - and the lady at the bar more so, and from then on the staff got friendlier and friendlier, and the evening meal at the Brasserie absolutely delicious!
The staff saw we were tense about the wedding and were simply there for us.
On the wedding day itself, they cheerfully shovelled snow for the visitors' cars, and even offered their 4-wheel drive if needed to get our son, the groom, to his wedding in Stoke. Luckily, not needed, but it's a measure of the friendliness of the place.
The venue for the wedding was simply fantastic, with tables so well laid out, such attentive staff, great food, and lovely dance floor with a myriad of exciting lights to enhance the dancing. Comfy beds, lovely views, quiet but lively. Coffee and tea and hairdryer in room.
I think the hotel should have more of a long history on display: parts of it are very old indeed.
No complaints. Go for it.

Room Tip: All fine - pick any.

Really nice hotel I stayed in an executive room for one night which was furnished nicely and had a power shower.
All the staff were friendly and the breakfast was good a nice selection from full English to kippers.
I didn't eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on that.
My only negative was that there were no bathrobes which for an executive room I feel is a must.

This is a real team steal. The hotel is excellent: rooms are lovely, modern and very clean. Bathroom also of high standard.
Food very good and staff were superb.
An executive room gives you a king size bed and an excellent shower. However, looking in on other rooms in the morning (doors were open for cleaning)they all look to be of a really high standard. Mattress and pillows were decent and a good nights sleep was had.
There is a beauty room which I didn't realise but would make use of in the future (staff did however enquire if there was availability even though it was closed at the time).
I would most definitely return and recommend this hotel, either to eat or stay for a night passing through or a few days.

Took my partner away to celebrate her birthday. We chose this hotel through 'Travelzoo' and found ourselves in a great hotel with stylish and modern bedrooms and bathrooms. Our room was well furnished and the bathroom was modern and smart. Everything was very clean and well looked after. We ate in the brasserie and had tasty well cooked food. Finished our stay with their full breakfast - locally produced sausages and bacon tasted delicious. The weather was against us - so we are looking at going back to do the walk we had planned.
