The Three Queens Hotel and Lodge
Ranked #8 of 11 Hotels in Burton upon Trent
Reviewed July 11, 2014

Having had our booking at a dfferent out of town hotel screwed up (The MW), leaving us with no room and the prospect of nowhere to stay, the Three Queens not only took us in at 22:30, but gave us such wonderful service. The reception staff were so welcoming, accommodating and just all round nice. The room was comfortable, spacious and quiet. After all the hassle, I think we got a far better room than The MW, a better deal and most definitely better service. Its not a main stream hotel with all the mod cons, but its probably better for it.

Room Tip: Rooms 223 and 224 - a bit of a trek and lots of stairs but well worth the peace and quiet

we went for a relaxing break following my husbands recent heart attack and were very glad we chose this hotel , we were greeted with the warmest mannar from the receptonist and she explained everything to us ,everyone was so friendly and would go out there way to help you .We stayed in the lodge and was not disappointed, yes the air con was a fan in our room but it was adequate, the only littlest bug was that there was no shower mat and it does become slippy. The breakfast was made to order and they were fantastic people nothing was to much trouble. The Hotel is a little dated but that makes it all the more friendly,if anyone does have a complaint then they will try to sort it ,within easy reach of most places and great places for real ale, would definatly recommend this hotel and would stop here again without a problem .There is no lifts but im sure if you couldnt manage your bags then they would help fantastic place to stay. Thank you .

i had to stay over in burton on trent for two days and stayed at this hotel, the price was very good and included a full english breakfast every morning. the room was clean, comfortable bed with full onsuite bathroom, coffee making facility and TV
I had dinner in the bar and they served good english food like fish and chips with mushy peas, the staff were pleasant and in the morning for breakfast, you were given a menu with waitress service. it was a relaxed atmosphere and if i was in burton on trent again then i would only stay at this hotel, it is only a 10 min walk to the centre of the town.

As a one night only booking (breakfast included) it was perfect. All most travellers really want, is a clean room with everything in working order and this is what we got.

We stayed in the annex (cottage) next door in a spacious ground floor room. However, although there were windows, we could not open it (and I tried!). So no fresh air which gave the room a slightly stale smell. Apart from this, it was fine.

Unfortunately the breakfast proved to be a disappointment for me. Could be because I didn't order the English breakfast, which my partner did. I wanted scrambled eggs on 1 slice of buttered toast and a croissant with coffee. I got the impression instant scrambled eggs were used - extremely bland. The toast turned out to be 4 slices of soggy hardly toasted bread. The croissant was not a croissant, but the image of one heated up in a microwave. The coffee tasted like dishwater, but probably because I like a really strong cup and should've asked for one. Despite this, the service was pretty good and aimed to please.

Reception was also excellent, but although the person on duty was going to get back to me on a question about the town, that never happened.

All in all a good stay for the price. (There's no option to tick a "Good' box, so I ticked 'Average').

PS: If you're into cemeteries, do go and visit the Stapenhill Cemetery, not too far away - beautiful)

Room Tip: Ask whether the windows can open if you're into fresh air.

This sprawling, unloved edifice, promises little and delivers less. From the charmless rooms, desperate for air conditioning or ventilation, to the doleful public areas and the insipid breakfasts. The place had the feel of an un loved rest home without the lifts. One which I commented to a member of our party I would rather shuffle off this mortal coil then be deposited in.

Stayed here for 1 night (Saturday 21st June) and only booked it because it came up as the cheapest, but it was certainly not a cheap experience. From the greeting off the young lad in Reception, when we arrived, through to our talk with the Night Porter, followed by fantastic service at Breakfast and finished off by the lovely goodbye the next morning, we could not have wished for better. The view from our room was a pitched roof, but that is being absolutely nitpicking, we had a great stay. This is not your generic chain Hotel, it is full of character. It has corridors off corridors, different coloured carpets and loads more, but it is fantastic. I don't know if we will ever need to go back to Burton, but, if we do there is only 1 place we will be staying.
