What a great place to visit. We really enjoyed visiting Claymills. The volunteers are knowledgeable and friendly. The museum is in excellent condition and educational.
Go on a day steam day (roughly once a month) for the best experience.
Well done to the volunteers on a great job!

Visited this site with the Armitage 1st Cubs. Great afternoon out. Very informative and friendly. Lovely cafe with home made cakes.

Very informative guide obviously keen on what he was doing. Signs of repair activity going on all of the time.
This is a brilliant example of a victorian pumping station for sewage but no unpleasant smell you will be pleased to know.

This site just improves as the volunteers work on it. No one is paid and all money received goes towards the restoration of the site. All volunteers should get a big pat on the back for restoring what was once a completely derelict site with derelict engines.

Go any day it's open, but "steam days" are best, when everything that can work with steam from the boiler will be working!

Visited on a steaming day so there were lots of volunteers to ask about the place. They were fantastic, kind polite and knowledgable, and above all interested. Much better than a number of sites where the staff seem to see turning up a bit of a chore.

We were lucky enough to time it perfectly and actually watch them start the beam engine it was incredible, like watching a huge animal start breathing.

Great place to take older kids for a couple of hours.
