“Great for a baby shower”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

We all had a wonderful afternoon tea at the Dovecliff for my sisters baby shower. We held the small party in the library which was a fantastic room which looked lovely with the decorations that the staff had kindly put up for us. The staff were so attentive and ensured we had plenty of fresh tea and coffee throughout the afternoon. The sandwiches and cakes were delicious I don't think a crumb was left on the plate. I would highly recommend the Dovecliff as a great venue for a baby shower.

Stayed at the Dovecliff Hall at Easter and got a very good rate on Hotels.com. A country house type hotel in nice grounds with plenty of parking, it's conveniently located near to the main road into Derby. The room was very comfortable and quiet and included tea and coffee making facilities. The staff were professional, friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was first class as was the inclusive breakfast. In summary, the Dovecliff Hall is a little gem of hotel - well worth a visit.

If you are on business in the East Midlands or just require a weekend break away for it all then I can certainly recommend a stay at the Dovecliff Hall. I have just returned from a short weekend break feeling much better for enjoying excellent service, good food and accommodation in a wonderful charming location set in beautiful Staffordshire countryside. A real gem!

Room Tip: All rooms at the Dovecliff have a charm of their own

We stayed for a couple of nights while we explored the area. The staff were extremely welcoming. The rooms were large, well decorated and very comfortable. The room temperature was high, but it was easy to control the radiators. Breakfast was cereal, fruit juice and full English. Drinks in the bar were expensive, but that is to be expected. All in all an excellent hotel for the price.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have great views of the river Dove.

Afternoon tea was very lovely but most uncomfortable sitting in the Drawing room. Very difficult to relax when you have to perch on the edge of a sofa . It was a Sunday lunch and do understand that they were busy but I felt most unladylike .

The family and close friends had the pleasure in celebrating my mothers’ recent Birthday and I thought that the Dovecliff Hall in Stretton would be the ideal venue.

I must confess, my wife and I have visited a number of halls on our years so we were quite excited to discover this reasonably local hall.

Firstly, let me say that the exterior of the hall had charm, but the interior of the hall, although spacious, did lack that that ore of quality. Take for example the lounge area, the decor was very dated and as for the reception. Well, being greeted by a gentleman who was not very well dressed... well, let us just say that it was rather unprofessional.

The three course dinner was rather pleasant. Not a great deal, but well cooked and to every ones taste.

The waiters were efficient, but refused to supplement the meal with additional vegetables. Apparently this was the chiefs’ decision... The waiters were only the messengers.

The drinks were terribly overpriced but the surprise at the end of the meal was that for a bill of over £450, 10% gratuity was also added.

NO! This is not London. If I was to pay for gratuity, then I decide how much and who this payment is awarded.

Some halls stipulate the gratuity on the menu or indeed, ask you at the time of paying the bill if you would like to consider this additional charge.

And sadly, the mangers choice to retain £70 of the deposit because of the snow preventing all of the attendees to visit was not appreciated.

It does not give me any pleasure in saying this but consider other venues before you book at the Dovercliff Hall Hotel.

We booked Afternoon Tea through Groupon and thought it a great bargain. This lovely traditional hotel was just the place to have a beautifully presented and served tea. We were greeted and taken through to the Orangery where only four tables were occupied. Soft music, sunshine coming through the long windows overlooking the garden created a great atmosphere. The food was a delight, strawberry tarts, light as a feather scones and a selection of cakes (the chocolate slice was super) together with a great choice of teas (or coffee) . We enjoyed ourselves and thought it was worth dressing up for. Welcoming staff, lots of choice and wonderful setting. Would do this again.

Room Tip: If staying at this hotel ask for a room in the original house - fantastic
