“First visit....and we'll be back!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

We were meeting up with friends in this village and were spoilt for choice of where to go and eat. We decided on this pub, and were certainly happy with our choice!
Apparently the pub has been re furbished and opened again a few months ago. The bar and eating areas were well decorated, clean and very comfortable. We were given a warm welcome and advised about the menu for the evening.
The men were pleased as Timothy Taylor beer was a guest beer!
The menu offered a good choice. Two opted for duck breast, one for chicken breast and one for fillet of sea bass, I also decided to have the tomato and mint salad with the fish, which was delicious and highly recommend. The meal was beautifully presented and we were all very impressed with the food.
We shared two home made desserts, vanilla creme brulee and lime, honey and ginger cheese cake! Both were delicious!
The quality of the food was high, the chef very obviously enjoys food and has a pride in his cooking. The service was excellent.
We did notice that Tuesdays are home made pie and a glass of wine night for a very reasonable price, so next time we will be going on a Tuesday!
Recommend this pub highly.

Passing through the area we made the mistake of visiting this establishment. The smashed window in the rear door set the standard, very loud rock music was being enjoyed by an equally loud crowd in the main bar area. Decor was at best shabby, picture lights on the wall but no pictures seats and tables best suited to a greasy spoon, room cold and without any character. Menu poor and very limited, I chose garlic mushrooms as a starter, four battered button mushrooms on some withered browning lettuce with two wrinkled cherry tomatoes and a minuscule pot of mayonnaise for £4.00? The mains had a two for £10 deal from which I picked lasagna(not for the deal but due to lack of anything else I fancied). The lasagna (when it eventually arrived)came in a small oval dish, the food was 1/2" thick at one end and the thickness of a sheet of pasta at the other with hardly any sauce. The accompanying chips were hard in the middle with an aftertaste of burnt fat. Even for £5 the food was a disappointment. A total of three puddings were on offer but we cut our losses and left. The new owner said she had just taken the place on and was looking for a chef-I hope she finds one soon!

We stayed over for one night on 26th October 2012 and were met with an extremely warm welcome by Paul and Maria (and Maisie the dog) who were fantastic and looked after us during our stay. Lovely cosy pub with open fire. Nice, clean rooms. Great full English Breakfast.

We would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone thinking of visiting Barton under Needwood.

I booked two rooms at this place for my Mother in Law and another lady relative. Stayed 7th August. They were both very happy with quality of rooms and welcome. Shame is that at time of writing this review (7th October 2012) the place appears to have closed down and to let signs are showing. Shame as clearly a good place to stay.

We booked two rooms in advance via email requesting a travel cot and child’s bed however on arrival the male owner claimed he knew nothing of this despite our hard evidence, (printed out email) not even an apology, which was disappointing. The female owner is delightful and really makes you feel welcome she went out of her way to accommodate us. The food is outstanding and definitely the pubs asset. The rooms are small and tired and are not big enough for cots/child beds. The pub is tried but undergoing renovation. If you are going to the pub to get drunk and need a place to pass out this is perfect. If you want a relaxing weekend away this will not happen. The rooms over look the smoking area, it is very noisy(which it clearly states on the website) until around 2am and the walls between the rooms are not very thick. My advice takes your ear plugs, leave your children at home and take expandable waste garments and you will enjoy!!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night as my family were staying in the area.

The rooms were nice, very clean and tidy. The pub is a friendly place and the locals were friendly.

I would stay here again.

We have recently stayed at this beautiful ,quaint and friendly B&B.We found the food second to none and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this Family run B&B for anyone thinking of visiting this area or just needing to get away for a quite and relaxing break.

Room Tip: Ask for room no; 4 . It has recently been renovated to a very high standard.
