Lower Micklin Farm
Reviewed March 24, 2013

We stayed at this lovely site for 3 nights, for our 2 day pass into Alton Towers. Unfortunetely it snowed heavily and was below zero, causing Alton towers to be closed! We were able to use the sites excellent facilities, they have a shower block better than most sites we have stayed in, a real benefit when your stuck on a site with 3 kids in tow! The owners were very good in checking on us and when we decided to call it a day (the water containers were become totally solid with ice) they happily allowed us to store our caravan on the site, as our storage facility was also snowed in! We would like to say a big thank you to them for a lovely stay. We will be coming back, maybe in better weather!

We go to Splash Landings every year and have tried various accommodation including the Alton towers hotel. This was the best trip we have had by miles.
We stayed for 2 nights for about the same price as one night at the hotel which meant we didn't have to do the long drive on the same day as swimming.
We arrived on Friday night and were greeted with a warm welcome, fast check in and a lovely warm cottage to chill out in.
A lot of thought has clearly been put into equipping the cottage as we had everything we needed. It was easy to quickly put together a meal in the well appointed kitchen and then chill out in front of a DVD.
As a family self catering suits us far better than a hotel and lower Michelin farm provided a comfortable and safe place for us to chill out.

Excellent value. I'll be coming back.

Gareth

This is probably the best cottage i have been too. They had all the stuff you would need inside them, including dishes, cups, glasses. We didn't expect all of that but it was a added bonus. It is also a 5-8 min drive to the actual theme park which makes it ideal for people travelling from far. The price is also not bad all. This is suitable for family and also for young groups of people. The cottages are well maintained clean and tidy on arrival. The owners are also very laid back and reliable.

First visit was in March 2012, and had promised my two grandaughters a trip to Alton Towers, so, saved the vouchers for free adult tickets, and booked in for June 2012. My family were delighted with the location and the cottage we had, Number 1, ideal as we were rather a mixed party, daughter, son-in-law, ex-husband, me and two further grandchildfren, who were an addition to my inital booking (we're a close family!)
Cottage was ideal, as it had two seperate bedrooms, plus double bed settee in the living area. The owners provided a travel cot, plus high chair, on request, as my youngest granchild is only 20months old, they even left a box of Lego, to keep them all amused. The cottages are all well supplied, lovely fresh towels included, washing up liquid, kitchen towel etc., all those bits which usually cause extra expense, plus welcome tray of tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk in the fridge. Kieran also gave us a half-price voucher for Alton Towers, which proved most useful. The only down-side to the weekend was, England lost!!

Highly recommend the accomodation, setting and the extremely friendly owners, would be perfect to book all three cottages for a big family weekend, or friends. Will certainly return.

Room Tip: Cottage 1 does have the advantage of two seperate bedrooms, so does prove very popular, so, book in...

We had a lovelty time here in cottages 2 and 3, celebrating a friend's hen weekend to Alton Towers. The very friendly owners let us in when we arrived quite late on Friday night, and let us off even though we overan our check-out time a little bit! The cottages were clean, with great TV/DVD combo, and nice bedrooms. Highly recommended - especially if you are after a weekend trip to Alton Towers.

We were greeted by the very helpful and friedly owner, we were shown round the cottage and were pleasenly surprised with our cottage for the 2 night stay. The cottage was very clean and comfortably accommodated a family of 8 with all utensils required for self catering tea coffee and milk was a nice touch. There was a TV with DVD player and board games to keep the kids occupied at night. Beds were comfortable and rooms were spacious. There was also a barbecue outside with tables to sit out and enjoy the beautiful scenary and evening sun. There was a play area for the kids and a football pitch in the back. Great location for Alton Towers and a pub half a mile down the road. What more can you ask for. Well done Micklin Farm. We will be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 8 bed cottage wich was spacious with no stairs.

Stayed here early march 2012, for a reunion with old friends. Well appointed cottages, which worked out very reasonably between five of us, although the cottage we had could have accommodated seven people. Central location for those wanting to visit Alton Towers, but not yet open on our weekend. Ate at the pub in the village, only half a mile away, great walks the next day. Owners friendly and obliging, lent us maps and gave advice for places to visit. Intend to return with family to visit Alton Towers, booking up fast so will have to confirm soon. Would highly recommend staying here, whatever the occasion.

Room Tip: Great views, but Cottage 1 overlooks the valley where Alton Towers is situated, so good views from l...
