Well maintained and looked after room, with all the expected frills.
Let down by the fact that the temperature was constantly well in excess of 70 degrees - no way of reducing the temperature. Even the pedestal fan provided proved totally inadequate.

If you opened the window, some type of compressor outside kept kicking into operation every 15 minutes or so, and it wasn't particularly quiet. The staff using a walkway outside were also not the quietest. Warning signs up saying not to leave the windows open because of squirrels.

All these negatives took away from what would otherwise be an excellent venue.

Restaurants - good menu, well prepared food, excellent staff, although perhaps a bit pricey.

Ambience very Disney-ish - great if you like that sort of thing (I was there not through choice! - work convention)

Room Tip: Avoid room 258 because of the problems referred to above. Unlikely to visit again.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review on Trip Advisor, we really do appreciate receiving comments from our guests.

We will look into the comments you make about the noise outside your room and hopefully we will be able to rectify this. It’s good to see that your enjoyed our on site restaurants and encountered our excellent staff along the way.

We appreciate your comments into the room heat, and we are currently under going a refurbishment plan and as of March 2013 we opened 14 new Moon Voyager rooms which have air cooling systems in them and our plan is to open more of these in 2014. We understand that the rooms can get warm and therefore we do provide a fan in every room for all guests.

Thanks again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

We recently spent the weekend at Alton Towers with the Cochlear Implanted Children's Support group. We had an amazing weekend as always. I would like to say a very special thank you though to all the staff who were on duty on the Saturday evening and Sunday who were so incredibly supportive and helpful to myself and my family when I had to be taken to hospital on the Saturday night with an injury to my leg. The duty Manager and the Medic on duty on the Saturday evening were especially helpful and ice was provided for me all day on the Sunday. I am resting now with my leg elevated and making a steady recovery.

The hotel was lovely, the water fountain out front and extra displays in the lobby were great. Although some sections of the hotel were dated, the rooms were still nice and the boarders biscuits went down a treat as they're my favourite :)

It was so convenient and was great to just go back to your hotel room after a day of rides.

We went to the bar when we arrived back at the hotel after a day at the park. However I was disappointed to pay £7 each for two cocktails out of a carton. One of the reasons u pay stupid money for a cocktail is to watch it being made, it adds to the experience, so when a box was taken out the fridge and poured its a little disappointing.

We went to the spa before tea and were surprised that you had to pay to go in. I didn't mind as much as it was cheaper if u went in after 4.30pm. This also meant that the spa was more relaxing as there were no children. However we were annoyed that we weren't told that the Jacuzzi was out of order before paying and only found out when we got in and changed. The robes and slippers were a nice touch. The heat room and Roman sauna were my favourite but I wish the temperature in the pool was a little warmer.

The Secret Garden restaurant was fantastic! The restaurant was really stunning walking in and the food was delicious! Our waiter was brilliant as he was friendly and attentive. I also like the unique menu design and the table ornaments.

Breakfast was a different story, the food wasn't great quality, the pancakes were floury, the fry up was disappointing and the Apple juice tasted like water as it needed changing. Having stayed at Legoland, another Merlin hotel we were expecting a little more. The staff didn't really seem that bothered first thing in the morning either.

I was glad that we had found such a good deal online because if we had paid full price I wouldn't have been happy as it is expensive for what you actually get. I know it's more of an adult experience but there was just no magic... The hotel is attached to Alton Towers, full of mind blowing rides and the only ride with 14 loops! The hotel should mirror that magic and excitement but it's just flat. Cocktails out a carton and reception were happy to get your restaurant booking but less inclined to phone to make an adjustment. It was great to roll back to the hotel but not worth the price tag if u don't find a good deal.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review on Trip Advisor, we really do appreciate receiving comments from our guests.

It’s good to read that you enjoyed the biscuits that we supplied in the room and are glad that we could supply your favourite.

I will pass on your feedback to our food & beverage manager about your cocktail and breakfast comments and also your great feedback about the Secret Garden Restaurant Dinner experience and service.

As with many hotels around the world you will find that the Spa is an additional charge, we find that our Spa offers great value for money and is highly praised for the service and treatments that we offer. It is good to read that you were able to relax in the Spa and enjoyed the Roman Sauna. We have taken on board your comments about the closure of the Jacuzzi and ensure that we let our guests know if there is any part of the offering unavailable.

Thanks again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

What a nice way to treat the kids, i had a spent a few days here, i strongly recommend that you have an overnight in the resort, about the hotel wow i felt like i was in the centre of all the action, the kids loved it, got to go on the rides before the park opened, which was a plus, and had lots of extras, the staff are very accommodating and try to help you.

The rooms are nice and very functional for the family which is a big plus.

The restaurant is great, i had some special diet requirement and the staff were more than happy to delivery this to us.

This was Part 2 of our mini moon and we booked a day in the water park and a day in the theme park. On checking in I found that only our theme park tickets had been printed, the receptionist checked our package, apologised but couldn't print the water park tickets as the system was down, she did say that they'd be posted later, they were and as a bonus she'd made them anytime tickets. As we went to the restaurant for our evening meal the receptionist saw us and asked had we received our tickets? Top marks, can't remember her name, but she was a tall curvy blonde.
We ate 2 breakfasts and 2 evening meals in the restaurant, the evening meals were tasty and plentiful, but the choice was a little limited. Breakfasts were a different matter, if you're used to "military messing" then this style won't be a problem, but one food station? I suggest another needs to be set up, the standard of breakfast varied too, the Thurs was tasty, the Fri not so. Also more care could be taken in cleaning too.
The room was initially very, very, warm, but cooled down after we put a fan on and opened the top half of the window. Only one electrical socket is accessible (behind TV) and the kettle lead is too short. Décor throughout the entire hotel is very dated and needs updating urgently. The bathroom is functional, but again needs updating.
The hotel staff throughout were great and very friendly, the water park staff however were a different matter and the attendants on the water slides need a course in how to talk to people.
We also had a spa there and again the décor needs updating, we had a couples mud experience and whilst we enjoyed it, there was almost not enough mud to go around and half the shower heads didn't work. The "experience showers" in the actual spa were broken and the water machine was broken too.
We did enjoy our stay and we would go back, but the whole hotel definitely needs updating.

Stayed Sunday night with tickets to park for Sunday and Monday. The booking process and check in are very straight forwards and speedy. The staff are very friendly yet almost step ford trained to be perfect clones. I do understand it's all part of the job. We had a good day in the park and managed to get on almost all if the rides on the Sunday. It is very clean in most areas and the staff work very hard. We ate at the burger kitchen and I have to say that sadly the food was shocking. All of it was cold, the fries appeared to have been fried twice to re heat and the soda was flat. Later in the day to re fuel after a hectic and enjoyable afternoon, we stopped for a pasty, now this was very very good. I chose a large steak pasty and the young man cut it in half so my friend and I could share. It was hot and full of filling and not too over priced. You are a captive audience so it is expected to be inflated but it tasted good so it's not too bad. Back at our rooms we washed and changed ready for a walk and then evening meal. The rooms are clean and tidy but a little dated, it was also very hot. Great for some but not us and it made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. At around 3:30 I had to have a shower to cool down in aid to get some sleep. We went to dinner and once again the staffed are cloned to be attentive. We had to wait a while before our order was taken and the waitress was helpful in telling us about a deal on the wine. I asked about a bucket offer on the bottles of beer but was told we couldn't have this in the dining area ( I found out later than we could have). We ordered our food which came and it all looked very nice. It tasted just like we expected it to be in way of pub grub that is micro waved but still edible. It once again though is quite pricey. We asked for mayonnaise which never came but peppercorn sauce was brought which we hadn't ordered. We were almost finished eating when 2 plates of desserts were brought over. We hadn't ordered desserts so they were taken away. Eventually we managed to find someone to fetch the bill. Upon checking we noticed we had been charged for the desserts, the wine deal hadn't been added. These issues were resolved and then we noticed we had been charged £4:00 too much for the pasta dish. It turns out the tables had all been re numbered and that we had been given yesterday's menu. So on the forth trip back to the till, it became apparent that had we paid the first bill it would have been over £80:00 for 4 main meals. It was then reduced to £67:00 once the corrections had been made. The entertainment in the hotel in the evening is dull to almost non existent, which seems to be an anti climax after such a good day.
The breakfast is good and plentiful and sets you up for the day. The 9:00 start with rides just for guests is pretty much pointless. We walked almost half way to the first ride to be told to go around the other way as non guests were going to queue at this point, so there for we lost out on over 20 minutes. But it is quiet on the Monday so not to worry. We had another good day in the park and because of such a good breakfast, we didn't need to eat lunch. I did want to buy another pasty for our trip home so we walked out of our way only to find the shop closed. It was only just after 2:30 so it wasn't as if the park was near closing time. I noticed as we walked around the park that a lot of the shops were closed compared to the day before. If we are paying the same price then the same facilities should be open.
All in all, it is still exciting due to the rides and the atmosphere, and I am positive I will stay again because it is convenient. There are parts of it though that make you feel ripped off.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review on Trip Advisor, we really do appreciate receiving comments from our guests.

It’s good to read that overall you had an enjoyable stay with us and experienced some great customer service along your way. I can only apologise for the issues that you received in the restaurant due to the new menu which we had implemented very recently and hope that it was quickly rectified for you.

I will pass over the comments you made about Burger Kitchen to the relevant management team so they can take your feedback on board.

In terms of the rooms being as you describe as hot, we are currently under going a refurbishment plan and as of March 2013 we opened 14 new Moon Voyager rooms which have air cooling systems in them and our plan is to open more of these in 2014. We understand that the rooms can get warm and therefore we do provide a fan in every room for all guests, we do have safety restrictions on how far the lower window can open to ensure children’s safety, but if you pull down the top window this creates a lovely breeze keeping the rooms at a comfortable temperature.

Thanks again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.
