“Don't expect luxury”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Top price paid for 3rd rate room.
I should have read the reviews before booking.
With the name Alton towers hotel you expect a disney experience, and with their prices it should be!!!
VERY tired rooms with very tired en suite. Luckily you don't spend to long in them.
The buffet style dinning was like school dinners ( including the awful smell ) with a huge lack of staff. 10 mins wait for a glass of water. We gave up on the birthday cake and got a refund.
Come on Alton towers get those rooms updated or reduce your prices to reflect the quality.

Room Tip: Find a local B&B

Stayed in alton towers hotel for ice age weekend, my daughter was poorly but thanks to the outstanding staff at hotel (especially adrian) we were given our room early and my daughter was able to enjoy part of stay thanks to been able to have a few hours sleep. I cant thank the staff enough as kids looking really forward to stay and you cant foresee illness. Food in secret garden was amazing and good value for money. Entertainment was great and we all had fab time. Will definitely be going back!

Room Tip: We were advised my the manager that you can request a room in particular, eg quieter part of hotel

I stayed at Alton Towers hotel for a cheeky weekender at splash landings water park. The attention to detail in the hotel is second to nine and the staff are always asking if you are enjoying your stay. The restaurant was the only thing that let it down a little. The service was a bit mediocre but the food was excellent. I had the stay booked on a special offer which was well worth the cash. I'm not sure if i had paid top whack I would have said it is value for money but I would recommend this to anyone.

Returned to the hotel for the third year running attending a dance weekend. Arrived at rush hour on the reception desk, and although a long queue was quickly booked in .However I do wish that staff would tell guests that they can put credit on their rooms for drinks, so they don't have to carry money with them all the time, we only knew from attending before. Room was very clean and comfortable, good refreshment trays, range of towels and toiletries. Bathroom was a little tired in places, but too be expected with high turnover of guests it must have. We had a set meal time in the garden restaurant and a set menu, and were quickly seated. However table was wobbly and after asking three times if we could have something to level the table to no avail, we used our own napkins. Food was served quickly, soup was a little on the cool side but tasty , hubby had mushrooms but was only served with one tiny roll. Asked waitress three times if he could have another roll to go with starter, but it never arrived. Main courses were salmon and chicken both were cooked to perfection. Desserts although small in size again were good quality. At end of meal waited an age for waitress to come back and clear tables and get us to sign for drinks, but in the end just gave up and left. Despite our room being on the main thoroughfare and the hotel being packed, was amazingly quiet throughout the night and a very comfy bed led to a good nights sleep. Breakfast was served buffet style, but a good choice of cereals, fruits and pastries and a range of freshly cooked items for an english breakfast. We again ate in the restaurant in the evening , funnily enough sat at the same table that was still wobbly!, however the difference was the waiter George, who sorted it within a minute. What a fantastic advert he was for Alton, curteous , polite & pleasant and nothing was too much trouble, so much so we commented to the restaurant manager at the end of the meal. Food again although from a set menu was good quality, well cooked and served quickly. All of the bar staff at the evening event were friendly and helpful especially the cocktail waiter advising us on the range of cocktails, and was not put out to make four different cocktails even though the bar was busy. However what really let down the weekend was the breakfast service on Sunday morning, seemed to be incredibly short of staff. Took ages to be seated, and then many tables were full of dirty dishes. Went to get some orange juice and there were no glasses , in the end managed to find a mug to use. Then there were no plates on the cooked breakfast counter, had to ask 2 members of staff to get some before we could get breakfast. Then when went to get toast no small plates, but after hunting around restaurant found a dessert bowl to use. Really was a let down especially when we only had a short timescale to eat breakfast, and most of it was spent trawling around the restaurant trying to find plates! There seemed to be a lot more families using the restaurant on the Sunday morning and I wonder if teh hotel had over strecthed themselves with the dancing weekend guests and then normal guests on top

I spent two nights with my girlfriend on a 'Strictly come dancing' themed weekend. The package included various events as well as full board accommodation, so whilst the package was fairly pricey I don't know exactly how that cost broke down.

From arrival to departure all the staff we encountered were excellent - friendly and helpful without being over the top as you may expect from a themed hotel. Unfortunately, service was a little slow in some of the bars - the tills seemed to be having issues on several occasions - and we (along with others) had a few issues with the delays and accuracy of lunch orders placed in the bar. Staff in the bar seemed a little overwhelmed at times which led to fairly long waiting times even for simple orders as at times one person was dealing with a number of people as well as colleagues from other areas.

The room we had was a family room - so in addition to our double bed there was a set of bunk beds in the room, which I suppose should be expected at a hotel geared for families! The room was spacious, however so this wasn't an issue. Our room was lovely, with a great view over the landscaping at the rear of the hotel. The carpet and decor seemed to have been refreshed recently which was a plus. Sadly the same couldn't be said of the bathroom which looked extremely dated and whilst being clean was showing its age with faded plastics and coloured grouting.

Our package included dinner and breakfast; both of which were great - the all you can eat breakfast hit the spot in the mornings and the dinners were delicious - we were both very satisfied with the quality and standard of the food.

The hotel is quirky and full of unique features, which although obviously aimed more at families are very well done and do add an interesting element compared to the average chain hotel!

Overall a great weekend - we plan to return when the park is open - and the quality of the staff made up for minor issues elsewhere.

My wife and I stopped at the Alton Towers Hotel with two friends and their children. We both had suites following an upgrade request, so chance your arm and ask away!

The hotels are themed and the rooms great fun. The whole ambience of the place is about fun but this does not impact on the quality of the public areas and the rooms/suites. The staff are excellent and go out of their way to make your stay memorable.

Our suite, the pajama suite was well laid out and spacious; the bed was themed around a hot air baloon and was comfortable. Our friends stayed in the Coca Cola room which was quirky in an American-kitsch kind of way.

The bars and restaurants are not cheap but the quality of the food is always good.

All in all we had a wonderful time. We've stayed at Alton Towers many times and always go back.

Room Tip: Look out for out of season special offers, £59 for a room, water park and breakfast is a steal!

My husband and I, and another couple stayed at the hotel on a Friday night. We found the staff very polite and helpful at all times, and the 24hour reception is a fantastic facility. The entrance to the hotel is themed, and we found this entertaining, especially the door bell which is pre-loaded with amusing voices. Staff were well dressed and mannered. On arrival there was quite a queue to check in and this could have been dealt with better, but as I said the staff were polite and apologised for the wait. Our room was average, clean but the window was black in the corners and we had a terrible view - there was a grass embankment in front of our window so it was also a bit dark. We didn't specify a view but then I didn't expect to be faced with that at all. The views at the rear of the hotel are nice, overlooking a lake of sorts. One of the spoons on our tea tray was very stained, and I wasn't convinced it was even clean. I know the spoons get a lot of use but at the premium price of the hotel, you would expect premium facilities, even in the minute details.
We used the 'splash landings' pool during the Friday and we had a fun time. All facilities were open and it wasn't too crowded for a Friday.
We went out to eat on the Friday evening in the nearby town of Cheadle, as we thought the hotel food was a bit over priced, however we returned in plenty of time for the evening entertainment which I have to say was brilliant. Family friendly but also appropriate for us adults, and the entertainers mingled amongst the audience which we liked, and managed to get some amazing photos. We used the bar and found the drinks priced averagely for a hotel. They had some themed alcoholic cocktails which were fun too.
Check-out was very easy, and we were asked how we found our stay. Settling the bar tab was also very easy. There is a shop inside the hotel which we used that morning and we were pleased to see that they were selling painkillers (as that's what we needed as well as soft drinks for the day). The shop was well equipped and again the lady at the cash register was very polite, made conversation with us and it was obvious that this was not an effort for her like in a lot of places.
The monorail was broken to get us into the park which was a let down as we had to queue outside the hotel and wait for a bus! But this was exclusive to the hotel guests so I suppose that AT couldn't have done much more to sort things whilst they sorted the monorail.
That evening we used the buffet restaurant in the splash landings hotel as it was just convenient - there are not many places "on park" to sit and eat properly that were open at the time we wanted to eat.
Overall, the park makes a good effort to theme the hotel and we cannot fault the staff, but the whole thing is very over priced, and with our tickets, swimming, food etc. we spent a fair amount of money in that 48 hour period. If you want to go for the experience of it, I would recommend it highly, but if you're looking to stay just for convenience, it might pay to find a local hotel off the grounds.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front on the ground floor will probably have the grass embankment view like we did.
