Stayed for my daughters 7th birthday, as she wanted to go away this year rather than have a big party. I must say that this hotel was excellent and in her words was " the best birthday ever!" The check in was very efficient and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. A special thanks must go to Jimmy in the restaurant.

The bedroom was very clean and functional, with the kids enjoying the fun of the bunk bed. There was a nice touch with the kids and adult toiletries. However I have to point out that the double bed was rather uncomfortable for us parents and we didn't have a great night's sleep due to it. We could tolerate this though for 1 night, maybe 2 nights max!

We ate in the buffet restaurant which was rather pricey but to be expected. We were however pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food with lots of choice to keep everyone happy. The restaurant temperature (and actually all of the hotel) was on the warm side due to the swimming pool adjacent. There is a walkway connecting this hotel and the Alton Towers Hotel, and the temperature dropped significantly as we reached the latter.....wasn't really a problem for us though.

If you are wanting to choose between this hotel and Alton Towers one...and you have children, I would 100% choose Splash Landings as this is decorated more for the little ones and seems more child friendly. If you don't have children I would probably choose the other one. There are kids running down the corridors until late so I would recommend a room at the end.

The water park was good fun and there was enough for the kids to play in the theme park at this time of year.

To sum everything up, I would recommend the hotel for the child friendliness and can't fault the service at all. It's a great place to take the children and at the end of the day, that's why we were there, so 4 stars from us. My daughter just didn't want to come home!

As a whole we had a great time, the whole Splash Landings experience is great fun and ideal for children and we all had a really enjoyable time. The staff I have to say are excellent and couldn't have been more helpful.

Our package cost £735 for one night including what was billed as an all you can eat Gala buffet and breakfast, access to the water park and theme park (limited rides only no biggies) and a family room for 5 in the Splash Landings hotel. Expensive yes but for what we were expecting we thought it was worth it for what sounded like a one off experience. However it certainly was not value for money!

The rooms were clean but basic which is fine and great fun for the kids. The restaurant was not good! Messy, dirty unorganised. The food was awful! It was being served up with dirty cutlery my kids even turned down the ice cream after seeing the state of the spoon that was in the toppings it looked like the same spoon had been used to serve up all 3 courses!! The food was just left out unattended, puddings getting mixed in will mains it was just a disaster. We had no clean spoons, drinks were forgotten, wine served in tumblers the list goes on. It might sound petty about the wine in tumblers but when you pay that amount of money thinking your paying for exclusive service you expect clean cutlery on your food and drink served properly!

The food on the pool area was just as bad. Overpriced, the fresh fruit was anything but fresh. The choices were limited, particularly for vegetarians made worse by the fact that the majority of the times the food shelves of sandwiches and in particular the hot foods were empty, clearly not able to meet demand! This wasn't even included in our package and as you can't take in your own food you have no choice but to pay for it!

The weather was bad on the second day and with there only being limited rides and transport on we decided to go home early as one day in the pool area was enough.

Having stayed in the Alton Towers hotel before we expected a lot more and though we left disappointed the kids enjoyed it and the staff were great. We will definitely think twice about the Hotel again though as you can't help but feel a little ripped off!

We have just returned from a 'Festive Break' at Splash Landings. Having been to Alton Towers before and recce'd the hotels, I had a good idea what to expect. This was slightly cheaper than Alton Towers Hotel, the room was fine though, and you can walk between the two hotels if you prefer one to the other.

We arrived at 2pm and queued for about 10 minutes to check in, our room was ready straight away despite the official 3pm check in time. The website shows a good representation of the rooms, nothing spectacular but clean and containing everything you need e.g. Kettle, TV. The kids were pleased with the bunk beds! We had a view of the outside section of the waterpark, too.

Be warned that the hotel was stuffy, due to the proximity of Cariba Creek. It is noticeably cooler at AT hotel. The bedroom windows open partly and there is a fan, it wasn't too bad at this time of year in the rooms, just in the foyer and restaurants.

After leaving our bags in the room we headed straight for the park as it closes at 4pm. We received one set of Cariba Creek tickets but you can visit the park on both days, by showing your room key or confirmation email/letter if not checked in (we weren't asked though).

The monorail was not operating, instead regular buses take you to a gap between Katanga Canyon and Mutiny Bay. It was very well done, with Christmas trees, music and lights. The areas of the park not operating are roped off, but you could probably sneak a look round if you are into that sort of thing (behind the magic?). Mutiny Bay and Cloud Cuckoo Land are the only areas open, accessed on foot across the bridge (past Hex if you know it). The sky ride is closed but there were plastic kids buggies available to borrow (free), or bring your own as it is a bit of a walk.

The AT website lists which rides are open, kid's ones only (no Smiler I'm afraid!). There is enough for it to be good value if you have young children, ours are 6 and 3. Especially as they can go on multiple times.

Back at the hotel there is a lot going on kids wise, puppet shows, magic shows and a disco. There is a good choice of restaurants between the two hotels but they are fairly expensive. The all you can eat buffet is £20 for adults without drinks. Kids under 8 I think was £7 each including unlimited drinks. We avoided this and shared a 16" pizza which was £19. Bring what food you can! Drinks were not too bad - £3.60 for a pint of Stella, not bad for a Southerner anyway! They had 4 bottles of Bud for £10. I would maybe eat in AT Hotel next time, as it was cooler and less kids running round, which is why we had to eat at Splash Landings, our two wanted to join in.

We had an early night, slept OK. You can hear kids running down the corridors so bring ear plugs if that bugs you. Breakfast starts at 7.30 Cariba Creek opens at 9 so we decide to go early to both. It was certainly less busy. At Cariba I managed to walk straight on to all the slides, it was fine until about 11am, then started to feel a bit cramped, so we left soon after.

We drove to the park this time for a quick getaway, had a go on everything one more time, then headed for home, with very happy children!

We have visited the hotel for their Christmas break for the last five years (we visit regularly during the year too). My youngest son has asd and we find that this is a fantastic way for the whole family to engage in Christmas activities together.

We booked an Ice age room this time and loved it. It was lots of fun despite one of the tvs in the bunk beds being out of order and the games console not working properly (the hotel was full so couldn't change rooms and not offered any form good will gesture). The treasure hunt was a nice touch.

There didn't seem to be as many staff as in previous years. We had a 15 minute wait to check in, our plates were not cleared during the evening meal (our starter plates were still on the table when we finished desert an hour and a half later!!) and as other people have said there were long waits for the bar.

Food similar to previous years, nice buffet lots of options including veggi.

We liked that Santa was inside this year, it was a nice change and we didn't have to wait in the rain and cold outside.

Entertainment was the same but still good, more lego and tables in Splash landings are needed.

Extra theme park rides would have been nice to make up for not having the squirrel and tractor rides, maybe Hex???

Alton towers at Xmas is really worth a go but more staff and resources should be available. Staff are usually friendly and helpful and our experiences this time are not what we have come to expect.

The water park at splash landings is great fun and we as a family of 4 (5 and 3 year old boys) love it.
However we have now stayed in the splash landings hotel twice and feel compelled to write on here to say do not waste your money staying over or eating in flambos.
Flambos - considering this is a family resort they seem to be unaware of this in flambos. Full size cutlery, crockery plates and bowls. The food is poor to average and is way way over priced. They are constantly out of bowls, spoons etc which creates waiting groups preventing others from getting past.
On trying to pay I was asked 3 times by 3 different people to fill in a survey and use peoples names, I was even given a card with someone's name on. If the service was great I would happily fill in a survey without needing to be told. Clearly more feedback is a management driven task.
The hotel - again the family bit seems to have past management by. The kids duvet covers do not fit the duvet and neither are the right size for the beds. The result is a tangled mess. Seriously how difficult is it to by the correct duvets and covers???
The worst thing about the hotel is the noise. Don't get me wrong I do appreciate this is a family hotel and to expect some noise at bed time. However I do not expect or accept that small children should be left to play in corridors, running about until 1am in the morning. This has happened on both occasions we have stayed. The last time we were told it is very unusual so we thought we'd give it another go. When I complained last night the porter who came to sort it out said it happens all the time and it's a real problem. Just after we'd got to sleep gone 1am we were woken up again at 4.30am by 2 very drunk gypsy men in the corridor who didn't know what room they were in. Again I complained.
The hotel management have a saying of 'chasing Mickey' in reference to wanting to be like Disney - ha ha this is so far from the truth it's laughable. If splash landings wants to be more like Disney they need to get a grip, invest some money in the restaurant and very tired room decor, train the staff and management and stop serving alcohol to very drunk people.

Room Tip: End of the corridor on the top floor with a good bit of luck

The whole experience was magical from start to finish. Merlin know how to throw a party. Both hotels and the theme park were decorated with beautiful Xmas lights and trees throughout. Stayed for the festive break and the food, service and entertainment was first class. There was a 7 piece band on the pirate ship, kids entertainer, theatre show, character stage show and Ice Age cinema. All excellent quality. We expected some half bothered teenagers to make up the entertainment team but we couldn't have been more wrong they were professionals who made the whole event run like clockwork. We ate dinner in Flambos and absolutely loved the food. Fresh BBQ tuna, pork, chicken etc lovely carvery and fresh salads. Great choice of puds with a double chocolate fountain which the children loved. Another good touch worth mentioning was the Lego area. Free Lego to entertain the young ones - kept ours busy for ages. We found our hotel room spotless and the beds were really comfy. Breakfast was fine. Good selection of food again and not at all chaotic which others seem to have experienced. We were so lucky with the weather. Blue skies across both days enabling us to swim outside and enjoy the theme park. Shuttle buses ran one after another to and from the park. We didn't have to queue for transport at all and we were taken straight to the entrance. Even the barriers were decorated in beautiful lights and garlands! The staff were all friendly, they were great with the children, held doors open for us etc genuinely helpful. One porter spotted us queuing to check out of the hotel and said I can do that for you. We handed him our room card and that was it. All done! We are definitely booking for next year. Thank you Merlin for a brilliant festive break.

We checked in with no queues and despite only being lunchtime could go straight to our room. Loved the caribbean Christmas decorations at reception. After dropping of the bags we went to the park. Not many rides open, but I think that was because part of the park is being revamped. My Daughter was happy with what was open.Visited Santa that afternoon. My Daughter was well happy with Sid the sloth. Enjoyed the three course Christmas dinner. My only complaint was the amount of kids that parents allowed to run around the restaurant and poke the buffet food. Because of this we opted to eat breakfast at the Alton Towers hotel restaurant. Loved the entertainment at the Alton Towers hotel. Will definitely be going again next year, but will stay at the Alton Towers hotel.
