“Extremely Expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2012

We stayed at the Splash Landings Hotel as a treat for my daughter's birthday. We have Merlin Annual Passes so do not need to pay for park tickets and receive a 20% discount on the price of a room. We enquired about balloons in our room but it would have cost an extra £15! We are a family of 5 (2 adults 3 children) and our room was very small. There was a double bed, bunk beds and a sofa bed. When we arrived in our room the sofa bed was folded away and it was up to us to unpack it and find the pillows and duvet. Not something I would expect to have to do for £163 per night, Also there were no colouring books and pencils for the children in our room as there have been on previous visits. The food at Flambos is adequate but as it is cooked en masse it is not of high quality and I feel it is over priced. The water park is good but again very expensive. On the whole I would recommend staying somewhere close by for half the price.

I have just returned from a weekend at Alton Towers with my husband and two sons. We all had a brilliant time and didn't want to come home. The Splash Landings Hotel is perfectly located by the monorail to get into the theme park. The room was clean and comfortable. We ate at Flambos in the evening and found the food just right after being in the theme park all day. It is a bit pricey, but all theme parks are the same and we all found lots to eat. Breakfast in the morning was good, but get there as soon as it opens at 7.30am otherwise you will be queuing to get in. Staff very friendly and helpful in the hotel, restaurant and theme park. We had a two day ticket for the park and managed to get on all the rides we wanted. We all thought Nemesis was the best and the Ice Age 4D show was very good. Yes, you pay over the top for the hotel and food if you look at what you actually get, but for the convenient location and total experience it is worth it (particularly with the offers available). We will return next year when the Park reopens and try out the new ride which is just being built.

Room Tip: We were in room 1104 which was very quiet.

We Went for a mini break to celebrate our little girls 6th Birthday did the park and then stayed at the Hotel.

The hotel was good the kids loved it and the entertainment/kids club was enjoyed.

Overall the hotel was clean, staffed well and enjoyable.

We ate at the all you can eat Buffet and lots have people have moaned about the price or quality but we loved it. The food was good and there was lots of choice, the kids ate well and us adults did to.

we'd happily stay again.

Stayed one night and only downside is having to check out by 10am, seems a bit early compared to the usual midday. Room was clean and tidy, shower good. Had a beach theme which was a laugh. Room had usual hotel stuff expect no pen and paper. Only stayed at hotel as was visiting the theme park. Also booked for the water park which was great. Ate at flambo's which was a decent buffet with lots of varied food and seemed good quality. Overall a really enjoyable stay and was a good laugh! Not the usual hotel experience.

Had an over night stay with passes for the park & water park as a surprise birthday present for my son. The rooms were bright & cheery with good facilities. The kids loved the water park, which we had access to the minute we arrived until the minute we left!! The food was good but a tad expensive but, all in all, money well spent!

Hotel is lovely, inside and out. I booked the Ice Age Themed room for first night and a normal family room for second night.
ICE AGE ROOM
WOW WOW WOW, you get your own personal parking space with your name on it. We were given a goodie bag, with controllers for x box and tv, as well as Ice age dvds and games for x box. The room is amazing, there is so much detail in it. From noises when open bathroom door, to the treasure hunt to get a prize from the safe. Room even has a fridge built in to the desk. And personal tv and dvds in the bunk beds. Was gutted to leave and go to a normal room
FAMILY ROOM
Family room was lovely, but the pull out sofa bed led a lot to be desired. Wasn't very comfy at all. But the room was noce, very clean, and lots of space.
Because we booked themed room, we were given some fast track tickets for theme park for each of us, for 2 days. And as long as buy waterpark tickets, you can have unlimited access over stay.
Was amazing, all the staff were lovely, especially our poor waiter in Flambos restaurant, who has unfortunate task of trying to move us from table.
Another great holiday.

Room Tip: ice age rooms are amazing, must experiance!!!

Travelled down with wife and 8 year old son for 2 nights and with 2 days passes to the park.

The hotel is clean, colourful and right by the monorail to get you into the park which is all good.

Problem is there's not much in the hotel. The park closes at 5.00 so with a walk back to the hotel (or queue for the monorail) you're back by 5.30. You have a choice of restaurants, all you can eat in Splash Landings or a la carte at the Alton Towers Hotel. Neither offered the greatest quality of food and both were expensive for what they provide. £20 for an adult "all you can eat" may be good value for someone more interested in quantity than quantity though. The range of options seemed reasonable.

You can then spend some more money on the arcade games, spend some time in the bar or watch a film in your room. However the rooms aren't that big for a family of 3 to spend much time in. The bar's big and bland and not particularly inviting and the arcade games and the room they are in are the same uninviting cave as anywhere else.

The pool looks fantastic but closed at 6.00 and seemed expensive for what it offered. One of the attractions of the Disneyland Hotel by comparison was s basic pool but being able to have a swim in the evening something Splash Landings doesn't offer.

Would I stay again? No, for the costs involved somewhere else would offer more comfort and a better choice of food something I would appreciate after a full day at the park.
