Owner description: The Waterpark is a perfect family day out whatever the weather, with both indoor and outdoor pools and attractions offering gallons of excitement for kids of all ages. Bursting out of the middle of Splash Landings Hotel the Caribbean lagoon boasts hundreds of fantastic interactive water features, from lazy rivers, bubbly wubbly pools and crazy cannons, to the thrills and spills of our Master Blaster water rollercoaster! There are also facilities for our smaller guests, including the Little Leak - a shallow area with interactive play features, floats and slides for tiny tots. Plus children under 4 years old can access the Waterpark completely free! There is scrumptious food available, including great value sandwich meal deals and delicious smoothies and ice cream served on the pool side. If you fancy something a little more filling we also offer a pizza and pasta buffet menu in Flambo's Exotic Feast Restaurant, offering great views of the wacky Waterpark.

We used the waterpark for 2 days as we were staying two nights in the hotel. Ive been to the waterpark many times in the past, but this weekend was definitely the busiest I have EVER seen it since it was opened.

The place was too small for the number of people in it. The lazy river was just a large concentration of adults and children all trying to squeeze past each other, some in rubber rings, while the queue for the masterblaster was over 40 minutes just to get a ring, then another 15 minutes to actually get on the "ride" (which lasts about 30 seconds).

Many of the interactive water features i.e. the water guns and water features were not working or such low power that there was nothing more than a drip coming out of them. The outdoor Bubbly Wubbly Pool desperately needs some refurbishment - some of the edges of the seats are worn and rough, and the cement which has come off is laying as a mound of gravel on the bottom. Again, this was far too busy to relax in, with many of the jets no longer working, and inconsiderate parents letting their children try and swim around the pool while everyone is sitting in there trying to relax.

We got a good deal through the hotel booking for the waterpark, although they did try to charge us for the 5 year old we had with us even though when booking they said the child was free, in the end they backed down and let us in, but I wouldnt pay full price to get in.

And dont expect to spend a full day in here - its not that big - 2 hours is around the most time you could expect to spend in here before getting fed up. The slides outside are slow, and im sure they have lowered the water temperature this year as the pool waters felt cooler than usual.

Its in need of a refurbishment and some new attractions. I also dont agree with the new £2 lockers which only give you a £1 back, and towel hire has also now gone up to £2 per towel - so take your own (I forgot!).

However I must stress, it can be a fun day if its not too busy, and Alton should restrict numbers allowed in to make it more enjoyable. Also, some parents must take more responsibility over their kids, some of which are extremely badly behaved in the pools.

Annoying enough that you have to pay for lockers (yes pay not just a deposit) really annoying that when they swallow your money the staff are rude and disinterested in getting it back. Certainly would not stay at this hotel if I visited Alton Towers.

Trying to overlook that, the pool was good and kept the kids (6 and 11) amused for an afternoon. It was a bit crowded and in common with all of these places there weren't enough seating areas. Food was expensive.

Having visited once before and being a local, I always keep my eyes peeled for Alotn Towers' special offers that pop up occasionally - one such one is the reduced price between 6 and 8pm at the moment. £7.50 is not so bad when you consider that we would pay nearly that much at the local pool and the kids (6 and 1) would be bored and cold after an hour. That said, I think we would struggle to stay there all day, even at a cost of nearly £20 each!

We arrived at about 6.15pm and went straight in however struggled to find a family cubicle - and when we did, the nappy bin was overflowing. We quickly got changed but then realised we would have to stuff all our things into one tiny locker. The staff member at reception had checked we had £2 change however it was a bit of a challenge to get it all in, then slam the door! It is a bit of a swizz that you only get £1 back, so everytime you open the locker it costs you £1!

We last visited a few years ago when the biggest was about 2 and tbh he was quite nervous, so although it was interesting, after an hour we had left. Luckily, the eldest is now quite confident and the youngest even more so. She loved the Little Leaks area and we had a good time together in the main area and also the Lazy River and outside areas. We decided to try out the slides only later realising that we were supposed to use tubes on them (husband discovered this when he tried to go on with son). Although it was nearly closing time by this point and the slides were closing, it does seem from what we saw that you have to queue for a tube, which can take some time. I am puzzled as to why you can't ride without a tube though, as surely this would keep the queues moving and people happy, as there seemed to be far too few tubes for the the number of people there.

Anyway, we also enjoyed the assault course area (my daughter loves squirting water and we all enjoyed the 'flooding' from the bucket) and the inflatables in the main area. The water is nice and warm and in general the pool area seemed very clean, with lots of lifeguards around.

Deciding that we would wait until the waterpark literally shut before leaving the pool, we then found ourselves once again struggling to find a cubicle (there is a definite shortage - not even eased by an 'open' area where the exhibitionists can change) and eventually squeezed into a normal sized one, which had rubbish on the floor. Being fairly low maintenance, we had no need to use the mirrors, hair dryers etc.

For the cost (approx £20 for the 4 of us - littlest being free), I think we would return for the evening session, however the issue with the slides needs resolving. It is also a very strange place to get to, with no real signage for where the entrance is (is it called the 'Waterpark' - as on the website - or 'Cariba Creek' as on the signs in the hotel??) and once inside, no real indication of how things work (such as tubes needed for the slides) and how to get to them. Cleanliness seems fairly good although the changing rooms need more attention that they obviously get, and of course, there is a dire lack of space to change.

There are a few other waterparks local to this area which are charging less, so on that basis, I have rated this as average, which is a shame, as generally I think Merlin have some good, well thoughtout attractions, and the Waterpark/Cariba Creek definitely has potential!

Second visit to Alton Towers Waterpark visiting with two 10 year olds. The theme and character of the place is great and parking is ample even at peak times. However this was our first visit during the school holidays and the attraction struggles to cope with the number of visitors for the main "master blaster" slide with queues of 30 minutes+ just to get a rubber ring to go on the slide. Guess what, once you have a rubber ring you have to queue again for another 10 minutes. It's expected, but it doesn't have to be this way! The place is clean and tidy and the slides are fun without being to daring, I'd expect its fun for all the family. The splash tower is great fun and the rapids are excellent. My only other two recommendations would be more seating in the food areas (signs say you cannot take your own food, so give us a seat when we buy yours!) oh and when folks leave their towels on the seats just chuck them in the water! That will dissuade them?!

The sandwich meal deals seem the best value, sandwich+crisps+drink for £5.75. Not bad for a theme park.

Kids love it here, so objective achieved and its worth the entrance price in my opinion.

Don't bother if you have children over the age of 6 you may as well go to your local leisure pool and spend a fraction of the money. The changing area smells of urine and fish and was very dirty. Even treated to a floating poo in the outdoor pool, disgusting! Long queues and overall very disappointing! Paid £2.00 for a small locker but only got £1.00 back, what a money spinner!
