My girlfriend and I stayed at Karslake House over Easter weekend for three nights. From arriving to leaving, Michael and Marcia (son and mother) looked after us like old friends. The room (no.5) was fine; clean and comfortable with a decent bed, sink and shower with plenty hot water. Our private bathroom was across the corridor (all the other rooms were en-suite), but we were made aware of and chose this room because it was cheaper (I like a good deal) and we weren't bothered by this. The bathroom was just fine too.

Where Karslake excels is the genuine hospitality of Michael and Marcia. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. Here are just some examples of things that made our stay so enjoyable:

1) We arrived early evening and were offered tea in the garden, which is just what we needed after a 300 mile drive.
2) Whilst drinking (taking?) our tea, Marcia asked us what we'd like to do for dinner, offered some restaurant and pub suggestions, printed out a few different menus from some that we were interested in and then made a booking with our choice.
3) The breakfasts were really tasty. A choice of cereals or yoghurt covered fresh berries to start, and then either scrambled eggs and smoked salmon or a (non-greasy) full English breakfast with a choice of eggs. I had boiled eggs and soldiers, which were really fresh and came from a local farm.
4) Days that we didn't order English breakfasts (only boiled eggs and soldiers) we were offered bacon sandwiches to take for lunch and our journey home. We gladly obliged.
5) On the first day, I'd expressed an interest in the eggs and their source, since they were so tasty. On the day we were leaving, Michael and Marcia kindly organised and gave us half a dozen to take home with us!
6) Talking of eggs, we checked out on Easter Sunday. At breakfast, each party was given a rather nice Thornton's Easter Egg.

All of the above are small, simple things really, but they made what might have been a good stay into a great and memorable stay.

I can't say whether or when we might stay in the area again, simply because we like to explore lots of different places. However, if we do ever plan to stay in Exmoor again, Karslake House will be our first choice.

good friendly welcome , lovely room well equiped and luxurious . very comfortable 4 poster bed ( A real treat ) had an amazing breakfast cooked to perfection , loved the fact that the pub was only a short walk away ! would love to go and stay again but know that will probaly never happen .sadly too busy .

I recently stayed at this idealic hotel with a group friends and had a really good time in a remote but beauitful location. Although intially it was difficult to find, it was definatedly worth the effort. The staff were really helpful in recomending good walks and good places to eat. He also arranged a local shoot and fishing trip that was really enjoyable. The staff gave us directions to a close by beach that had beautiful views. The rooms and bathrooms were really nice and clean and the attention detail made the difference.
