My girlfriend and I stayed at Karslake House over Easter weekend for three nights. From arriving to leaving, Michael and Marcia (son and mother) looked after us like old friends. The room (no.5) was fine; clean and comfortable with a decent bed, sink and shower with plenty hot water. Our private bathroom was across the corridor (all the other rooms were en-suite), but we were made aware of and chose this room because it was cheaper (I like a good deal) and we weren't bothered by this. The bathroom was just fine too.

Where Karslake excels is the genuine hospitality of Michael and Marcia. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. Here are just some examples of things that made our stay so enjoyable:

1) We arrived early evening and were offered tea in the garden, which is just what we needed after a 300 mile drive.
2) Whilst drinking (taking?) our tea, Marcia asked us what we'd like to do for dinner, offered some restaurant and pub suggestions, printed out a few different menus from some that we were interested in and then made a booking with our choice.
3) The breakfasts were really tasty. A choice of cereals or yoghurt covered fresh berries to start, and then either scrambled eggs and smoked salmon or a (non-greasy) full English breakfast with a choice of eggs. I had boiled eggs and soldiers, which were really fresh and came from a local farm.
4) Days that we didn't order English breakfasts (only boiled eggs and soldiers) we were offered bacon sandwiches to take for lunch and our journey home. We gladly obliged.
5) On the first day, I'd expressed an interest in the eggs and their source, since they were so tasty. On the day we were leaving, Michael and Marcia kindly organised and gave us half a dozen to take home with us!
6) Talking of eggs, we checked out on Easter Sunday. At breakfast, each party was given a rather nice Thornton's Easter Egg.

All of the above are small, simple things really, but they made what might have been a good stay into a great and memorable stay.

I can't say whether or when we might stay in the area again, simply because we like to explore lots of different places. However, if we do ever plan to stay in Exmoor again, Karslake House will be our first choice.

I recently stayed at this idealic hotel with a group friends and had a really good time in a remote but beauitful location. Although intially it was difficult to find, it was definatedly worth the effort. The staff were really helpful in recomending good walks and good places to eat. He also arranged a local shoot and fishing trip that was really enjoyable. The staff gave us directions to a close by beach that had beautiful views. The rooms and bathrooms were really nice and clean and the attention detail made the difference.

Thank you for being so kind. Groups of friends is something that we well suited to, being able to offer exclusive use to groups of all sizes and being spoilt for choice with activities to organise for them such as cycling, Shooting, Fishing, Horse Riding, Exmoor Safaris and much much more! We are so happy that you enjoyed the service and rooms and hope to see you again in the future.

I stayed here with a couple of friends. The setting is idylic, the hospitality is fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were lovely. The owners son looked after us extremely well and although we were late when we arrived and so there was no food being served, he made us the nicest plate of sandwiches I'd ever had and then provided us with drinks from the bar. I would most definitely go back, as it's nice to be looked after at such a high standard. Well done to the Karslake and looking forward to visiting next year.

Fantastic! We are always flexible with check in and check out times where possible as we always make sure that someone is on duty 24 hours a day. Karslake House always endeavours to provide the best service there is and we are so glad you enjoyed the bar snacks and drinks with your friends. We look forward to seeing you again!

Arrived Late friday afternoon, and were greeted with a very warm welcome from Marcia, quickly followed by a lovely cup of tea and slice of HOMEMADE FRUIT CAKE AND HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE CAKE. MMMM.
Were very impressed with our room, cleanliness excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Slept really well in the lovely 4 poster bed.... A special Karslake House breakfast was offered and accepted and set us up for our days walking, maps and advice also offered by Marcia and gratefully accepted.
This is a must stay for anyone visting this area and we would highly recomend to anyone else and we eagerly look forward to our next visit.
Thanks Marcia and Grandad Bert
