We certainly didn't expect the Ritz at this price (£68 per room per night) but what we did expect was cleanliness. What we got (even after moving from one room to another) was a room stinking of damp - a bathroom that I certainly wouldn't even unpack my sponge bag into - a shower enclosure that could do with a complete renewal and a general feeling that this is somewhere that contractors might stay while doing work in the area. This was in fact just what does happen, we later found out. The ONLY reasonable things about the place were a) Breakfast was ok - but bread left in the plastic bags next to the toaster didn't seem to show any "finesse" and b) they did refund the other two nights we had booked without question. The latter seemed to us to show that we weren't the first to complain! Never Again!!

We stayed at the laburnum hotel for two nights for are friends wedding and we have to say they couldnt of been more helpful. We had a meal on the first night which was excellent and maggie was just great. The breakfast is of a very good standard, and once again the staff were very helpful. On the afternoon of the wedding the staff were all on hand to help, as both are friends are in wheelchairs and nothing was to much trouble. The wedding feast was once again first class and we had a wonderful day and the comments were all good. The room was also lovely.Very good value for money.

I have read some of the other reviews and think that some people have no concept of how much things cost! If you pay these rates, you will get basic 2 star standard. Even a Travelodge would be more expensive for a family of 4 than this place, and this cost included a good breakfast. It was a tad dated yes, but we found it to be perfectly clean. The lodge was not damp and was good value for money. It seems as if they are now spending money on doing it up as the dining room is far brighter and modern that shown in the photos. The people were friendly and the food good. You pay for what you get!

A pleasant Xmas time with relatives. Excellent food in roomy surroundings. Some of the accommodation could be better, but the environment secured us a good night's quiet sleep .

Had a lovely week here on our winter break. It's in a lovely quiet location, but accessable to the sea side, towns and motorway, which made it easy to do some site seeing. Nice for people that love walking, there is some beautiful place's to walk to from here. The hotel part could do with a bit more up grading in some area's, but then we accepted the fact that it is in the country and fit's in with it's location. The lodge we stayed in was clean and comfortable. The staff were very happy, polite and friendly and made you feel very welcome and good with the children. The food was excellent and felt we didn't need to venture out to eat, while good food can be had here. Has a lovely indoor swimming pool. Not alot for children, to do here, but plenty of place's in the area to take them to, to keep them amused, and they enjoyed it and it was back to the room for a relaxing peacefull night sleep. Meet our need's, very happy with our stay here and would do it again.

My first impressions on pulling up to 'Laburnum was of an extensive, fairly modern hotel . it presents an air of pastoral charm combined with all the stuff we all expect nowadays. Lots of parking space! I would say it's an excellent venue for a coach party - In fact the hotel even helped organise a coach for our party at a very reasonable rate! 'Laburnum House hotel consists of an old converted farmhouse tastefully surrounded by quite attractive and well-built lodges. All widely dispersed and well landscaped, giving it bucolic charm. I stayed overnight in relation to a party organised by the hotel. The lodge I used was lovely - quite modern with a lot of space and facilities. Inside the converted farmhouse were several bars and function rooms of various sizes; and also an extensive conservatory (I have special memories of that place..... but I digress somewhat)! Quite a bit of room there. They also have skittle alley (not my cup of tea but to each his own.......)

In any event the owner managed to organise a DJ and a fine, generous spread of food - combined with a quite well-stocked bar! The staff were professional and provided a good level of service.

The only slight downside was the long road you need to get there. Not the hotel's fault - the barman told me the owner has been trying to get it widened for years. But I saw our coach traverse it ok and I experienced no problems myself.

I noticed the odd cobweb here and there and a few things out of place - like the odd chipped tile - but nothing untoward, otherwise. From what I could see of the catering facilities they looked clean, comprehensive and modern.

My visit was made especially notable as I fell in love there with my latest girlfriend - I hope you will find happiness and delight there, too, as I did! (:-)

I booked a lodge for one week in August 2009 and was encouraged by the owner to pay in full by phone, which unfortunately I did. On arrival in the musty, stale, sweaty reception area we were given keys and shown to our accommodation by a polite young man. His first job was to show us how to feed coins into the electricity meter! Not a great start! We were left to settle in.

The accommodation smelt damp and musty and the furniture was dated, chipped and looked like it had come from the nearest charity shop. Several of the rooms had mould growing in the corners and the shower area was also mouldy, with cracked tiles, etc. The bread bin contained crumbs from previous tenants.

Overall, it was a major disappointment. We looked at the pool area (tiny, too hot and stuffy) and the tennis court surface was in a terrible state. There was also a vandalised telephone box opposite our accommodation, within the lodge parking area.

The young man on reception tried to be helpful, though he was obviously embarrassed by the state of the rooms. He showed us several alternative lodges, but they were as awful as the first option. I was feeling upset and distressed by this point so my husband suggested we leave, for the good of our health! The owner was conveniently away and refused to allow his colleague to refund us any money. He would not speak to us directly and although his colleague gave us his number he did not have the courtesy to return our call to his mobile number. We took photographs of the property before leaving and would certainly NOT recommend this place to anyone!
