“Amazing hospitality-really bent over backwards for us”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

On arriving at the hotel, we walked into reception to find the male cast of Hollyoaks drunk and rowdy in the bar, apparently staying there for a charity football match. When I seemed concerned that our little ones might be kept awake by the noise if we were located near them (they were already rowdy and it was only 2pm!), the manager immediately found us a quiet lodge away from the club house. He personally took us to our lodge to make sure we were happy and boy, were we happy! He swapped our normal family room for a brand new apartment with a modern kitchen, new shower room and enough room for our family of four to live in! What was also good was all of the lodges have their own parking spaces, so there's no need to cart heavy bags to and fro.
The breakfast the next day was amazing and the women who served us were incredibly attentive, friendly and very welcoming.
The hotel is very near to Burnham and Brean and the hotel itself has regular nights on in its club house (it was a Take That tribute when we were there, but we chose to go to Brean Leisure Park as we were only there for one night).
Overall, it was definitely worth the £80 we paid for a family of four and the redeeming quality was the customer service we received from the staff. The only negative point (and the reason for it not getting 5 stars) was that finer attention could have been paid to absolute 100% cleanliness in the lodge. By this, I mean that I didn't like the toilet rug because it looked stained (I immediately put this to one side) and I didn't feel comfortable standing on the discoloured shower mat when showering. If I were to go again I would take some bleach and a cloth. Apart from that though, it was great and I am a little OCD when it comes to cleaning!

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in, dirty, scruffy, smelly, probably a health hazard, to be avoided at all costs.
The staff are rude, and like the hotel scruffy and unappealing.
The bedroom was freezing cold, damp and mildewy, the food was vile and expensive to boot.
Altogether a most horrible experience, the place should be closed down.
They will probably go out of business soon anyway, because I'm sure people will come to realise how bad it is.

arrived at 5pm and within a few minutes into our room.
lovely and warm on a cold evening, preview TV turned on and a bottle of wine opened after a day at the shops.
The room was very dated compared to a modern Holiday Inn/ Hilton etc but very clean and tidy and not their prices.
We stayed with a groupon deal at £69 for B&B with 3 course evening meal.
starter prawn cocktail and white bait followed by 2 sirloin steaks cooked exactly as requested.
I had a banana fritter and my wife had crumble. The meal was really good and served by a very happy young lady. Due to only 6 people in that evening the ambiance was quite but did not affect our enjoyment too much. thank you to David our barman for his sense of humour.
the Following morning the full English was excellent.
They say you pay for what you get and certainly here we found it excellent value for money

Well.... What can I say apart from our experience of the Laburnum was definitely interesting. When we arrived, you would be forgiven for thinking we had travelled there in the Delorian as it was straight out of the 1980's. We were greeted in reception by a chap who's untucked shirt, mud splattered trousers and trainers left you extremely uncomfortable. Although the decor resembled an old peoples home, the room was clean, comfortable and spacious with decent heating and hot water, so can't complain there. However, the most disappointing thing about the stay involved the SWIMMING POOL! We went along to ask if we could use it, and they hadn't bothered to heat it, using the reason that their "regular" customers don't tend to use it and we should have asked to use it in advance!! I tried to use the pool, but even at 17 degree, the sea at Burnham would have been warmer. I tried to ask if we could have a free sauna as recompense, but this was met with a firm "No". It was like I had asked for a quid, been turned down and then asking for fifty grand instead. We therefore used the "mini gym" which we managed to use without fear of electrocution from leaks in the roof onto the running machine. To be fair, the main three course meal, although your run of the mill choices of steak, Korma, lasagne, scampi etc was hot and tasted alright and the breakfast was nice and plentiful (although atmosphere was very dull and quiet). The service in the restaurant was friendly and the staff did work hard in this area, thank you to them. However, every time we crossed the path of the owner, he over did it with the questions "are you alright, everything ok, sorry about this and that" which made us feel uncomfortable and like we had been a nuisance. This was compounded when we walked back from breakfast to the news they had heated the pool especially for us - after having eaten a full english and needed to be out by ten am! My advice, stay here if you need to put your head down for the night if your travelling on, but don't bother if you want a weekend away!

Just got back from one night stay on a Groupon deal. I thought I would just read the most recent review before adding my own and had to laugh. We had exactly the same experience as previous reviewer! Lovely room, food was excellent. Restaurant looked lovely. But bar area was cold. Suggest visitors wear warm clothes for meals.

stayed for one night only on the 3/12/12 thro groupon and had half board for two at £69
good points--- arrived at 6.00pm and allocated chalet 23, on entering we were met with a wave of heat, lovely. There is a wall convector with flame effect which looked quite new, a freeview tv and coffee/tea making equipment large room with king size bed and bathroom with shower over bath, hairdryer on the wall, room clean etc

evening meal was 3 course and we both had the same--home made veg soup (good)
fillet steak and trimmings(excellant, cooked to perfection) and home made xmas crumble with custard(good)

breakfast was the usual with choice of yougarts, cereals fruit juices tea, coffee followed by full english and then toast with marmalade or jams--no complaints

not so good--like a previous reviewer we were the only ones for dinner and so we ate in the bar as the restaurant was empty, cold and of course no atmosphere--the barman who was on his first night had to act as waiter as well, nice chap who did his best but we needed t prompt him on occasions eg salt and pepper
it was a cold night and without customers you soon felt the temperature so we returned to our room which was lovely and warm

overall it was value for money--the staff we met were vry pleasant and the car park was lit,
it would seem that the management has taken previous reviews on board--the bar area around the pool table needs a bit of attention but its not 5 star prices, in fact i would give it 3.5 stars.

the latest info that i heard whilst there is that edf have bought it and will be using it for their staff
so it may not be around for the general public much longer--look for the bargains!!!

Room Tip: stayed in no.23 which was fine
