“Small but interesting.”

Another tiny but free museum in Watchet. A few boats to see.
Ok to pass an hour whilst waiting for the train.

“That's how to do it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

This is a superb small museum. The exhibits are well laid out, the information about them is engaging and never patronising, and the idea of having a boat available for children to play in, complete with oilskins and pirate hats, is inspired.

“Nice place to visit”

Watchet is a nice place to visit going back i was told 1000years altho there is little sign of it .we went to the tourist information office and were given a town map which marked out a route you could take to see places of interest also to find out where the cafes or Restaurants were as we only found 2 which were full and the inns (we were told )only served food after 6pm but saying all this we found it a very nice place as it had a flat square over looking the harbour where you could sit down and watch the world go by

“Facinating and fun”

Watchet Boat Museum

This little gem is set beside the railway that runs steam trains and is full of interesting things. It is as much fun for adults and children alike with the chance for them to get into a boat, to put on life jackets, pirate hats and a colouring corner it also has the chance to make you're own rope the traditional way or try you're hand at block and tackle and see how strong you are.
The amazing number of boats of all sorts with great explanations and information makes the subject fascinating. There is also a lot about sea fishing, maps & charts and models.
Entry is free and is open in the afternoons during the summer. They will arrange group or individual visits outside of hours by arrangement if you can't make it in time.
If you have mobility issues most is on the ground floor or visible from there, it may be a bit of a squeeze for wheelchairs so pick a quiet time and still plenty to see.
I went back twice and would happily go again. This is something different from the usual museum.
