Looking at the choice in Watchet for a light lunch and coffee we decided not to go to the busy cafe opposite. Big mistake. The food was mediocre to awful. Service ok but no wonder chives is empty and the place opposite not. What wasn't surprising was the 'slob' look-a-like for a chef. Food was not home made, deli( you're joking surely) had some bought in pies and other basics but certainly not a deli, just an extention to the fridge for the kitchen. Next time go for first impression. Why was it empty compared to the cafe opposite. Nul points au revoire.

Nice little cafe/deli in the main street. Lovely cakes and quiches etc. Milk shake was not so good, tasted just like a flavoured milk, but then, no-one in this country can make them like the Australians ! (I'm not Australian by the way).

Thank Val H

There are two Tripadvisor entries for this place: Chives Deli and Chives Café are one and the same. We didn’t find much restaurant choice in Watchet which is a pity as the town has some interesting heritage for visitors with the harbour and railway. Chives has an interesting look as a Deli Café with a country kitchen appearance: but there are issues over the food. The choice is a little limited with a more traditional grilled hearty breakfasts and a limited lunch choice that seems to consist of microwave re-heats. Our Quiche was generous and contained some good ingredients but it was far from hot (as also found by a previous reviewer): the curry was OK but nothing special. Sorry, but there’s a need to try a little harder.

I took a friend out for a cream tea and unfortunately I chose to take her to Chives. The scones were pure stodge, the portion of cream was mean and the jam wasn't up to much, I couldn't understand how Chives had gone downhill so quickly as the last time I had a scone there it was lovely. Later in the day I saw one of the waitresses coming out of the Co-op with bags of shopping. When I saw Co-op's scones I realised that's where they must have come from-the ones in store were identical to the ones we had been served!
Shame on you Chives. You let the town of Watchet down when you serve holiday makers with poor quality food. If you run out of home made scones then why not make another batch? They don't take long to make. Or do your home-baked scones 'just happen' to look and taste like Co-op ones? I'd like some feedback from you.
The only saving grace of the event were the lovely girls waiting on table.
