We stayed here four nights with a large group. Everything was done to accommodate our group and make us feel welcome. We were greeted with a smile each time we entered the lobby or encountered any of the staff in the hall. This goes a long way in making a stay a nice one.
Our room faced the street and was just 2 rooms down from the elevator. Neither of us had an issue with noise--trains, street or elevator noises were nonexistent. The room was very large with lots of room to put bags, etc. We had a sofa, large desk, expandable coffee table, adaquate storage and a refrigerator. The king-sized bed was very comfortable with many pillows--both firm and soft. Room lighting was good and the climate control was easy to adjust and quickly cooled the room down. The only negative comment we have is that the bathroom was small and was a one-person bathroom. The vanity was not split from the shower/commode so it was not conducive to sharing. We found the elevator service quick with no long waits.
We did not eat in the hotel other than a banquet breakfast for our group which was just so-so. While the food was not to our liking, the buffet was serviced very promptly. Our evening banquet was Sunday evening and the food was excellent. I found it somewhat strange that the hotel's dining room was closed that night. Could have been due to the holiday?
We walked to Ryan's Tavern a few blocks away and drove (although we could have walked) to Riverbank Cafe just over the bridge. Both were very good (not outstanding) meals.
As mentioned, the downtown area is struggling. There was no time that we felt unsafe, however. We toured the Butler County Courthouse, the Soldiers, Sailors and Pioneers Monument and Heritage Hall/Robert McCloskey Museum--all were worthy of a visit. Also, the Butler County Historical Society Museum was a lovely visit. We particularly enjoyed viewing the many sculptures scattered around the downtown area. They're all very engaging. We hope this city is able to survive and would definitely stay in this Courtyard again.
